Today’s wiki is Jewelry Appraisal. Check it out, as this wiki needs tons and tons of love! Jewelry appraisal is somewhat of a mystery to me. Mr. Penguin bought my ring on his own, and (shame on us) we haven’t gotten it insured! I’ve been really paranoid about it lately, and decided to stop wearing my engagement ring until we insure it. Better safe than sorry, right? So, before we get my ring insured, we’ve got to learn about the ins and outs of jewelry appraisal, and I was hoping that the hive could help me out!
Where do you go to get your jewelry appraised? How can you tell if an appraiser is reputable and legitimate? Do you need to go to several appraisal outfits to double check the appraised value of your jewelry? Where can you go online to get more information about jewelry appraisal? Share your tips, sources, and experiences with jewelry appraisal in the wiki:

Cake cutting sounds pretty straightforward, doesn’t it? You and your new husband find a spot on the cake, and slice right through. Surprisingly, lots of bees have noted that cake cutting isn’t exactly cut and dry! From discovering that the cake is MUCH harder to cut than anticipated, to staff forgetting to lay out plates and utensils for the cutting, to the awkward cake feeding, the cake cutting is a portion of the wedding that could use a little practice and setup beforehand!
What are your tips for a smooth cake cutting? Have you ever witnessed a particularly memorable cake cutting? What made that cutting so memorable? The cake cutting wiki needs a lot of love, and we’d love it if you could pitch in with your tips, tricks, and links to help current and future brides out!

Today’s wiki is all about the after party! Lots of brides and grooms are opting to keep the party going all night long by extending an invitation to their guests to join them at an after party. Mr. Penguin and I are always down for a wedding after-party… once I kick off my heels, I’m ready for party, round 2! I love being able to witness the bride and groom let loose among their friends and family at the end of the day. Often times, this is when I’ve really noticed the newlywed couple breathe a sigh of relief as they loosen their ties, let down their hair, and really CELEBRATE!
How do you spread the word about your after party, and how do you encourage people to come? What is the invitation etiquette surrounding wedding after parties? What are some unique locations and ideas for a great after party? Share your tips for a successful wedding after-party in the wiki:

Mrs. Penguin here again! Today’s wiki is all about bustles. There are so many interesting ways to bustle your dress… more than I ever possibly imagined! Bustles were intimidating to me. You spend hours and hours looking for that perfect dress with the perfect train, and right after you find it, a seamstress goes and scrunches it all up in the back! If you don’t have an idea of what you’d like your bustle to look like before you go in for your alterations, you might be sorely disappointed at the results, so it’s best to have a bustle game plan, or at least pictures of what your ideal bustle looks like to show to your seamstress.
Do you have any tips for bustles? What type of bustle did you have? Are any of you out there DIY bustle brides willing to share your tips and tricks with the hive? What are some good ways to ensure that your bustle will stay functional throughout the night? Share your bustly ideas, along with great external links if you have ’em, in the bustle wiki:

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
Hey hive, Mrs. Penguin here! We really need your help on the Wiki of the Day today. “Makeup Trial” is an entry that is largely unfilled, and we’d love to get your input! Makeup trials are kind of intimidating, especially if you’re not the type of person to wear makeup on a daily basis, like me. I had huge issues with my makeup trial and wasn’t sure if I was going to like my makeup at all on our wedding day! I thought my makeup artist (MUA) did a great job, but I was totally afraid of looking like I was wearing too much makeup. My MUA did a great job at listening to my concerns, and did a perfect job on the big day! I was so glad I went for a trial—it is well worth the expense, because if you don’t like your makeup on your wedding day, you might be too stressed out to fix it, or running too late to have time to do anything about it.
What are some of your tips for a smooth makeup trial? Are there questions you should ask your MUA before and after the trial? How much direction should you give your MUA before, during and after the trial? Are there specific products you’ve used for your wedding that you must recommend to others? Share all your tips and ideas with us in the Makeup Trial Wiki:

Today’s wiki is Card Box. It’s a great idea to have a card box on your gift table for guests to deposit their cards into. Because cards at weddings typically contain gift cards, cash, or checks, security is often a big concern for card boxes, so it’s always a good idea to assign an attendant to the card box that will stash the box in a safe place after all the guests have arrived.
Popular card boxes are made from hatboxes, bird cages or mailboxes. But there are so many creative ideas for card boxes and many cute poems to indicate to guests where the card box is located! What did you use for your card box? How did you keep your card box secure on the wedding day? What are some fun ways to spruce up a box to make it “wedding ready”? Share your tips with us in the card box wiki:

Today’s wiki is First Dance. Mr. Penguin was really dreading the first dance. He thought that it would be really awkward and nerve wracking, and I was really bummed that he thought it would be that bad. He asked if perhaps I would consider inviting everyone to dance mid-way through our dance, but since we had our first dance before dinner, it wouldn’t have made much sense.
When it came time for our dance, we swayed romantically and it was a picturesque moment… for about 20 seconds. By the 30th second, we were giggling. By the minute mark, we were begging our DJ to fade out the music. Mr. Peng was right. We weren’t “first dance” people.
Had I been able to consult the first dance wiki, I might have learned that it was a good idea to take a few dance lessons, or at least have practiced our first dance a few times before we participated in the real thing!
Do you have any tips for the first dance? In the wiki, you can share ideas for great song recommendations, choreography ideas, and check out previous Weddingbee posts related to the first dance. Share with us your tips and tricks for making this sometimes nerve wracking experience a pleasant and romantic one!

Today’s wiki is Inspiration Board. An inspiration board is a collection of images, typically arranged in a block, that come together to show the look and feel of a future wedding. Brides can put together their own inspiration boards, featuring images that portray the look, color scheme, and feel of the wedding they want to have. Or, wedding vendors can put together inspiration boards for couples in need of direction.
Have you put together an inspiration board? You can upload it to the wiki! Share your tips about creating an inspiration board. What kind of images can you use? Where are some great online resources you can go to find pictures to add to inspiration boards? Share your ideas in the Inspiration Board wiki:

Today’s wiki is Day of Coordinator. I remember when I first got engaged, I would ask former brides what their best decision was that they made in regards to their wedding day. 4 out of 5 girls would say that they were so glad that they hired a Day of Coordinator! Of course, being the cheapo that I am, we didn’t end up hiring one, and I wish we did!
What are some of your tips for hiring a Day of Coordinator (DOC)? What should you look for and what should you avoid? What does a DOC typically do for your wedding day? What are the pros and cons of hiring one? Share with us your tips and knowledge of the DOC service with us in the wiki:

Today’s wiki is bathroom baskets. Bathroom baskets are a great amenity for your guests, and might be a lifesaver for guests that run into pesky problems like spills or tummy aches. Most recently, Mrs. Hydrangea posted a great blog on her bathroom baskets and its contents.
What would you include in your bathroom baskets? What are some creative containers you could use to house all your items? Share your tips for useful and creative bathroom baskets in the wiki:

Today’s wiki is boudoir pictures. Several bees including Mrs. Onion, Mrs. Cherry Pie, Mrs. Hydrangea, and Mrs. Pomegranate have taken professional boudoir pictures as a gift to their husbands. There has even been a DIY boudoir session by the crafty Mrs. Candy Corn! A typical time to give an album of boudoir pictures to your husband is on the morning of the wedding, or right after the wedding. Boudoir photos are not always taken in the nude, but more often than not, the illusion of nudity is suggested. I didn’t take boudoir pictures, so I’m hoping the hive can contribute their expertise to the subject!
What are some great locations to take boudoir pictures? Where can you go to find attire and props for your session? What are some ways to help you get comfortable in front of the camera in the buff (or semi-buff)? Do you have any tips to share from your own boudoir shoot? If you have suggestions, share them with us in the wiki!

We’ve featured the reception music wiki before, but Melissa has worked hard to spiff up this popular wiki, so we’d love it if you could pitch in with your expertise on the subject, too! Music is crucial to your wedding day, and no doubt a part of the day that you’ll remember for years to come! Many key moments of your day require a song, from the processional, to the grand exit, and many moments in between!
What key moments require a song? Are there certain “go to” songs for these moments? If you have music tips and suggestions, share them with the hive! You can even suggest great external links for great playlists you’ve found out there on the web.

Today’s wiki is engagement pictures. Like many brides, I was skeptical if engagement pictures were necessary. Even though engagement pictures were included in our wedding package, we were still hesitant to have them taken, as our photographer was located in Southern California, so we’d either have to fly down to take them, or fly our photographer up to Northern California. Like most brides that have taken engagement photos, I’m so glad we flew down to take them! It gave us a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera, and helped us get a feel for her style of shooting. As a result, we were much more relaxed on our wedding day in front of the camera. And of course, we got some great photos of ourselves, too!
Check out the wiki and share your ideas and tips for engagement pictures. What are some popular locations? Are there specific can’t-miss shots that you’re having your photographer take? Share your knowledge with us here:

Today’s wiki is the wedding day timeline. Wedding day timelines are extremely helpful to all of the parties involved in your wedding day. Everyone from the photographer, to the bridesmaids, to the parents all benefit from having a detailed day-of timeline! I actually had a pretty lame wedding day timeline until my photographer Sarah stepped in and graciously sent me an example of a GOOD timeline. From there, I changed all the details to fit our wedding day, and I’m happy to say everything happened on time! My best advice for distribution of the wedding day timeline is to create and share it via Google Docs. The beauty of sharing it via Google Docs is that every time you make a change to the document, readers of the document will automatically get the latest version of the timeline, without you having to re-email them the latest copy.
Check out the wiki and share your ideas and tips for what makes a good wedding day timeline here:
If you’re a recent bride, share with us on the wiki how you distributed your wedding day timeline, what was beneficial to include on the timeline, and any other nuggets of wisdom you have to offer!

We’re bringing the Wiki of the Day back with a snazzy new icon!
Wiki entries have been particularly helpful when someone has a question on the boards about popular wedding items like the candy buffet, or bathroom basket, or out of town bags. It’s really an underutilized resource for just about everything weddings in one place!
Today’s Wiki is photo booth. This has been a popular trend for awhile, and shows no sign of going away because guests get to take home a fun favor, and the bride and groom get to keep photos of their guests! What’s not to love!
