Alcohol is a common topic we see on the weddingbee boards,  so today’s wiki of the day is on the bar!

Mr. Bee and I were lucky because our venue allowed us to bring in our own alcohol, and the liquor store where we purchased our alcohol accepted returns of any unopened bottles.  A friend of Mr. Bee’s also gave us a case of premium African rum, which we used in our two signature cocktails.  Though we had a full open bar, most guests drank the signature cocktails all night long, so we were able to reduce our alcohol costs significantly.  The liquor store even picked up our unopened bottles from the venue after the wedding, and by the time we returned from our honeymoon, we had a $900 deposit already waiting for us in our account!  That was most definitely a very pleasant surprise.

I spent a good portion of the weekend writing and editing entries, and I have to say that I’m surprised how addicting it all is!  I’m just so excited when I envision the long-term potential of the wiki - it’s definitely my favorite weddingbee feature to date!

So if you haven’t already, please give adding to or editing the wiki a try.  It’s so much easier than you might think.

Thanks to limesnall and all our anonymous wiki editors!  You guys are really helping pull the wiki together.  For those of you who are still shy about adding to the wiki, I promise it’s a lot easier (and a lot more fun) than you think!

Today’s wiki of the day is reception music, inspired by Miss Hummingbird’s recent post asking for songs suggestions that get people dancing. 

With ipod weddings becoming increasingly ubiquitous, couples need more help with their reception music selections.  And there are so many music decisions you need to make!  From the cocktail hour, to the bridal party/grand entrance, first dance, father-daughter dance, mother-son dance, dinner music, dance music, bouquet toss, garter toss, cake cutting, and final song - you really have your work cut out for you!

Yesterday’s Wiki of the Day on bridal shower games was pretty awesome. I wish I had known all these games when I threw my first bridal shower for a friend! We just did the Toilet Paper wedding dress game, Bride/Groom Trivia, the Purse Game, and some pop culture trivia games. Actually in retrospect it was a lot of fun, but it was a lot of research at the time.

Today’s Wiki of the Day is on the Maid of Honor. I’ve been a MOH once and had one MOH for my own wedding. My biggest shock from being a MOH was how expensive it was! Even though the bride paid for my dress, hair, and makeup… I still ended up paying for the bridal shower (and gifts), bachelorette party (and gifts) and wedding gift. The whole bridal party chipped in, but everything cost me well over $1k! I had just turned 24 and had no idea that attending weddings were going to be one of the big expenses in my life over the next few years :-).

Anyway please help us fill in the Maid of Honor wiki article. We outlined a few sections in the article to fill in: Responsibilities, Tips on how to select your MOH, Tips if you *are* a MOH, and links to Weddingbee Posts. Please fill it in with your wisdom and experiences!

I’m having so much fun with the wikis!  You guys have been writing great articles like the ipod wedding, story boards, and much more!  It’s going to take a little time to build our wedding wiki up, but the sheer potential is so exciting!

A word to anyone scared to edit a wiki - all edits and previous renditions are saved, so we can always revert any changes.  So please don’t be shy to give it a shot - it’s super easy and quite addicting once you get into it!

Our wikis of the day are bridal shower and bridal shower games.  So please think of bridal shower tips, themes, and games and comment below or add to the wiki yourself!  I’m gonna go dig in the weddingbee archives now…

I wish I had done a TTD shoot after my wedding… but not in my dress, after paying so much money to dryclean and “preserve” it!  If I did a TTD now, I would buy a cheap dress off the rack and trash that dress instead.  Then I’d dryclean it and donate it to charity.  I guess that’s my TTD tip (regret?), from someone who’s never done one.

I chose honey favors for my wedding, since I am a Bee after all. It was a lot of work tying ribbons and favors tags onto each jar of honey. So my favor tip for you, if you’re going to tie favor tags onto each favor using ribbon, block out at least a day of your life!

Also, we wrestled with whether or not to get the honey in small or medium sized pots. In the end, we compromised for budget reasons and got the smallest size. It was a tough decision at the time, but we realized later that nobody really cared that we didn’t get the largest size. So another favor tip is, don’t spend too much on your favors. And if it’s not important to you, don’t feel pressured to get favors at all!
