A Geek Wedding, Part I: The Table Signs and Escort Cards

Since, as I have mentioned before, Mr. Hum and I are full blown geeks, there are a number of elements to the wedding that are on the geeky side.

The very first geeky project that we started working on way back in the fall was the video game themed table signs and escort cards. We don’t have a hard and fast rule about where people are supposed to sit at the wedding, so we figured these would suffice and that as long as people knew which table they were assigned to, it would be okay.

The design process on these babies was pretty grueling for Mr. Hum (I stake no claim over the art stuff, that’s all him) because we got the silly little idea that each person attending the wedding would have a different video game character on their escort card, as well as a blurb on the back, explaining who his or her character was and what they did in their game.

In theory, this is an awesome idea. In practice, finding the art and information for 77 table cards is a gigantic pain in the ass.

But Mr. Hum is a toughie and once he sets his mind on something, he has to finish it. So the guy scoured every inch of the internet for pictures, he lived on wikipedia and he stayed up until 3 in the morning printing them but he finished them this week and they rock! Check it out!

The cards en masse. I know this picture is really small but it was the only way I could fit them all into one shot!

A shot from behind of all the card blurbs.

However, since taking huge shots of them made it a little difficult to see everything, I broke the cards down by table to make the detail a little easier to see. Plus I paired them with the table signs (which still need to be cut down to size) for the full effect. Onward to the tables!

The Doom Table. We put a lot of our younger friends at this table since we figured they were more likely to get it.

The Guitar Hero Table. Mr. Hum’s cousins are musically inclined/love this game so we made sure they were sitting here.

The Pacman Table. Mr. Hum’s dad and stepmum requested this table specifically because they said it was the only video game they knew.

The Super Mario Table. Again, we decided to put Mr. Hum’s aunts and uncles at a classic video game table since they were more likely to recognize it.

The Street Fighter Table. My friend John specifically requested this table because he used to play this game as a kid.

The Legend of Zelda Table. The Zelda one was tricky because there are so many different Zelda titles so we kind of mixed them up a bit. We made sure however to give Link to my younger cousin Jeffrey.

The Viva Pinata Table. We were kind of back and forth on whether or not to include this game, but the colours sold us on it.

The Alice Table. Our young downtown hipster friends are sitting at this table.

The Warcraft Table. Because Mr. Hum and I are gamers, we had to include this one.

And finally, the head table, The Halo Table. Mr. Hum and I are Master Chief and Cortana!

And as an extra geektastic treat, while I was punching out and folding all of our cards (Mr. Hum did the hard design work, so I did the menial labour), I hung out with a cute little dude I picked up at the very awesome Silver Snail – Yoshi!

I always play Yoshi in the Super Mario games so when I saw this little guy, I had to pick him up.

Anyway, now that we’re finally done, I want to hear from all you other folks out there in wedding land – what did you do when it came to your table signs and escort cards? Share your creativity!

*Please excuse the ghetto looking white blobs over people’s names as I had to do that for privacy’s sake.*

This is really cute! I love all of the different variety of characters. You can use things like the Guitar Hero characters and Zelda characters for younger children!

It must have been incredibly time consuming, but it looks worth it! Congratulations!

Oh my gosh, I love these! 🙂 Very cool! FI and I were toying with the idea of including video game characters in our wedding tables/escort cards. Super cute! 🙂
