Searching for a Venue

When we started looking for our venue, Mr. Wellies and I had several specifics in mind. We knew we wanted a barn, preferably one that was local and small enough that it would suit our party of six. The interior would be simple, rather than elaborate, and wouldn’t need much personalization. Our photographers, M2 Photography, had shot a lot of weddings at Holly Hedge Estate and highly recommended it, so we scheduled a tour to view the property.

Located in New Hope, Holly Hedge is a quiet, secluded estate with gorgeous grounds. Our tour guide, Wendy, showed us the barn, the honeymoon suite, and the main house. Mr. Wellies and I absolutely loved the barn. We pictured ourselves getting married in front of the stone fireplace, surrounded by candles and string lights. It had just the atmosphere we were looking for.

Mr. Wellies and I only had a few minor complaints. Wendy said the barn wasn’t heated, so if the weather got too cold, we might need to move the reception into the main house. We assumed that renting heaters was a possibility, although we didn’t know how much they would cost. Mr. Wellies also didn’t like how our voices echoed in the space and worried our ceremony would feel too loud. Lastly, I wasn’t crazy about having our reception just feet away from our ceremony. The idea of passing tables and chairs as I walked down the aisle didn’t fit with the romantic image I had in my head.

Overall, we couldn’t have asked for a better venue. Wendy was such a great help: she responded to emails promptly and created a lovely customized package for us. We easily might have booked Holly Hedge Estate, if I hadn’t stumbled across our venue while browsing the internet one day.

Was there a venue that was a close second to the one you chose?

    @Mrs. Waterfall: I agree. 🙂
    @cosmo_gmr: I’m glad your venue was so accommodating! While our venue has tables and linens available, we’re planning on renting specific chairs and tablecloths, in order to get the look we want. 🙂

    @J: I don’t think it’s weird at all! 🙂 Since our vendors require meals, they’ll be joining us for dinner. We also want them to be there for our first dance and cutting the cake.
