Tips to Shower With

There is something very strange about being a grown woman and having all eyes on me while I open heaps of presents.  I literally haven’t been in this situation since my ten year old birthday party.  Having attended many bridal showers in the past, I came up with a few tricks of the trade:

1. Surround yourself with your ladies.

You picked your bridesmaids for a reason. This is a great time for them to literally be your right hand women. There are a few tasks that you can delegate before the shower

a. The present recorder:

I know it is hard to tell…but don’t worry, MOH K loved her job! I meant to outfit her with a fancy pen because that makes this job a little more exciting. Bridal fail…

b. The trashy one:

Just kidding, MOH C is not trashy at all. But look at her tear that paper away. Get it girl…

This is a crucial position if your fiance is not attending the shower with you. (Mr. S was stuck studying in Tampa.) In addition to immediately pulling the wrapping paper out of the way, so as not to block the present, the trashy one is great for putting things back in boxes so you can move right along.

c. The gift carrier:

I highly recommend finding an adorable young child for this. It makes them feel like a BAMF to be included.

2. Try to find an appropriate pace in which to open your presents.

TOO SLOW= very bored guests. It is not necessary to read every single card out loud or to slowly belabor the unwrapping. It it cute for about three minutes, but really makes the party drag.

TOO FAST= ungrateful. Make sure you take that moment to look the gift giver in the eye and genuinely thank them and let you know you appreciate their gift.

It is a fine line…personally, I think I may have rushed it a little.

3. Flash the goods.

Some presents will have a certain wow factor and holding it up or passing the gift around will keep the guests engaged.

Automatically flash anything from Anthro…go BM M!

4. Have your guests take a break in the middle of the gift open to indulge in a dessert bar. Enough said.

Can you please take a look at that background?

BM A rocked out her specialty: chocolate covered oreos.
BM KT make an apple tart from the heart.

I wish I could hire them for my wedding. Talk about a labor of love!

5. Smile, because your other bridesmaid (BM A) will be snapping away pictures all day and trust me, you will want to remember this day forever!

Thank you for this! Delegating roles makes so much sense — and I bet cleanup was a snap. It’s tough to walk the fast-paced but gracious line… looks like you did so beautifully!

Those coasters are such a great idea by your Moh! They were a great decoration and you can keep on using them.
