Ah, crud. I haven’t blogged since, like, March. I feel like a jerk. But I sweeeear I’ve been busy – making escort cards, bathroom baskets, favor boxes, programs, THE WORKS! So as some of that winds down, I suppose it’s time to share! Here’s the status on the escort cards I had started oh-so-long ago…
Last time we met to discuss this crucial issue, I still wasn’t sure how to stem or how to display my floral escort cards. But because you’re all BRILLIANT, the issues have been resolved:
You maaay be wondering how these bad boys came to be. Well, it was like this:
1) Stems: I must say, thank you all for your stem suggestions! I obsessed over this for quite a while, and eventually, my research led me to cloth stem wire – and if you’re looking for some at the JoAnn Fabrics in Portsmouth, NH – keep looking, because I cleeeeaned them OUT:
These are super awesome and I love them. I was really worried that any wire I used would be too flimsy, but these are perfect for all your stemming needs! I just cut these down to size and curled each end so that it wouldn’t fall through the hole in the bottom of the flower.
2) Beads: As you all so wisely suggested, I implemented a bead strategy to keep the flowers from falling down the stems. I happened to find the perfect little red beads at Michael’s, on CLEARANCE (score!!! $1.50/750 beads – I kid you not). I pushed each bead onto the stem and attached it to the bottom of the flower with permanent, clear-drying glue.
3) Vases: Miss Toucan had suggested displaying them in vases and grouping them by initials – and, well, what Toucs says goes. I had found some red vases on sale circa Christmas – 6 to be exact. Each vase will hold about 20-25 flowers and will represent A-F, G-Whatever.
So, in case you haven’t noticed, these have not yet fully evolved into escort cards – but come April 25th, when the RSVPs are due (because no one would DARE send it late, yes?), my escort cards will truly blossom!
