Collaborative Crafting

As our wedding day approaches, I’ve stared down a serious to-do list. While it is mostly crossed off today, a week before our wedding (!!!) I’d be telling baldfaced lies if I took credit for all of it. So let me tell you how it really went down and share the credit where it’s due.

I had a bit of a stressmelt about my task load, so Mr. Archer decided he would help me with my DIY projects. This was incredibly out of character for him; he normally just refills my wine glass and occasionally makes an encouraging comment, since TBH he has the crafting skills of a kindergartener and we both know it. So I was a little concerned about his execution when he joined me outdoors to spray paint frames and make chalkboards.

He was surprisingly patient with both the 90-degree-plus temperatures and the finicky chalkboard paint, and really did a pretty good job on the chalkboards.

After an overnight cure, it was time to reassemble! Three frames adorned Mr. A’s chalkboards—a few will frame guest information, and several more will display typographic artwork by the talented Mrs. Doily. How awesome is that legendary couples piece she made? I wrapped them generously in bubble wrap and shipped them off to New Orleans.

There, one of my super-artistic sorority sisters took over the project. She has great handwriting, so I commissioned her to write on the chalkboards for me. She went way further and took my bare bones text—literally sent via text message—and turned it into art!

She’s begun accepting commissions for projects like this, so feel free to message me if you’d like her contact information.

From sketch to final product—so awesome!

I literally just didn’t want to be scribbling on these chalkboards the day before the wedding and having them look like crap, so I implored L’s help with them. But they are so much cooler than I could have ever imagined!

I’m so excited to see how this one comes out!

L’s also offered to craft us a few photobooth props, and texted me this awesome selfie teaser—I can’t wait to see what she comes up with!

And just when I thought I’d used up all my crafting karma, Mr. A surprised me by offering to help again! This project, binding our programs, was more complicated, but he spent an afternoon stitching twine through holes I had punched, and we knocked them out in one fell swoop.

How did you go about knocking out the last of your projects as you got down to the wire? Did anyone else get a little extra help from their fiance, friends, and family?
