Cheers, Disneyland!

Most people love Disneyland — the food, the rides, the souvenirs… did I mention the food? I loved Disneyland as a kid. My family would take one trip a year down to Southern California to visit and go to Disneyland. We had a whole routine down pat, complete with order of rides, when we’d go back to the hotel, and then our late night return to the park.

Since I moved to Los Angeles about eight years ago, I’ve only been to the park three times… and all three times were when I had family members come from out of town. Some of the Disney magic wore off on me over time, I suppose.

But I just got a bunch of love for Disney.

Disneyland will now be offering their Fairytale Wedding package for same-sex couples. This is a huge deal in getting a family-oriented conglomerate on board with supporting same sex couples’ rights (as many companies use “family oriented” to mean “no gays”)!!

So now instead of just seeing this:

We’ll get to see a more diverse set of couples. I couldn’t be more thrilled. Kudos to Disneyland!

For the record, Disneyland’s Fairytale Weddings include your choice of ceremony and reception venues – Disneyland Hotel, Grand Californian Hotel, or inside the park.

Interesting that this gets brought up, as I’m currently reading Fast Food Nation and there’s a bit in it about how the founder of McDonald’s and Walt Disney were friends and had similar business ethics and whatnot. Wonder what Walt would think about this.

At any rate, good for them. Although I’m meeting my prince at the end of the aisle (and we actually discussed having our first dance to a Disney song, but couldn’t find a good one!) I think it’s high time that this society recognize different couplings and get it through their heads that gay people are still just PEOPLE. I have a lot of gay friends (and a gay cousin) and it saddens me to know I may not live to see the day when they get the same rights and privileges as us. But that’s a topic for another time. It’s a very heated issue for me…

As Girl put it, I will not be finding a groom at the aisle this year, but my beautiful girlfriend. I am a complete Disney freak and when I found out that they finally allowed LGBT weddings at their grounds I was soooo happy. It all started when another website blogged how they were told they weren’t allowed to have their ceremony at Disney World and the site started to investigate the rules of Disneyland and World. (Both had different restrictions)

Though I do realize there are no gay couples documenting their weddings on wedding bee (though it would be terrific), this site is still very fabulous for us to help with our wedding.

I thought you were going to say they are going to finally start featuring pictures of interracial couples. It’s about time for that, eh?!

That’s so sad. I always thought Disneyland was like a magical place for children. But now it seems that even Disneyland has been corrupted.
