The Little Best Man

Consider this your fair warning that this is a bit of a “proud mommy” post. I try my hardest not to be one of those moms, but if it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck, it’s probably a duck (or whatever it is they say).

As you know from our intro post, Cruise and I have an almost two-year-old little boy.

At our wedding he will be two months shy of being two (and yes, his terrible twos are in full swing—yikes). Just to get it out of the way, we’ve already dealt with people thinking we’re getting married just because of him, and to those people I say, “Screw you.” Little Cruise says…

We knew from the beginning that Little Cruise would be in our wedding, we just didn’t know where he would fit in. Although it’s becoming increasingly more common, having your children in your wedding still is far from “traditional.” The initial reaction of most people is to have him as the ring bearer. That would make sense, except we’d love for Nephew Cruise to be in it as well. At the time of our wedding, Nephew Cruise will have just turned three, and Cousin Cruise (our flower girl) will be almost three. (If you’re keeping track, that’s a whole lot of terrible two walking down one aisle.) Instead of having the three of them walk together, which could get a little hectic, we have decided that Little Cruise will be Cruise’s little best man. He is, after all, the best little man we know. 🙂

I spy…Homewood in the background!

We also want to include him in some other way. This wedding is about more than just being husband and wife: we are legally becoming a family. I thought maybe a sand ceremony, but Cruise is anti sand ceremony, so I’m looking for ideas! Maybe he will come down the aisle with us at the end? I’m not quite sure.

Did you have your children in your wedding? How did you incorporate them into the ceremony?

My daughter was ten years old when we got married. So, we did the sand ceremony since we had a beach wedding. We also had her as our only wedding party so she would feel special. You are already a beautiful family! Congratulations to you all!

Oh, and we got her a pearl necklace and pearl earrings, her first “real, grown-up jewelry”, which will last her forever and she wore for the wedding. Now, every time she wears it, she’ll think of when we all became official 😉
