I Got 99 Problems…

”¦I mean days! That’s right—The Armadillos are officially into double digits in the wedding countdown. And what better way to celebrate than to have our cake tasting, no?

This afternoon, Mr. A and I went by the one and only cake shop in town, called Party Time, to pick up flavor samples to choose what we want to have our cake taste like on the big day. I was anticipating having to sit down at the store and try each flavor, but they ended up giving us two cupcakes per flavor to take home and try at our leisure! That’s 10 cupcakes, y’all”¦FO FREE. Gotta love small-town businesses!

Anyway, we returned to my parents’ house with nearly a dozen cupcakes in tow, which meant everyone in the family could get it on the cake-tasting experience. For reference, here’s what we came home with:

There are vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, Italian creme, and red velvet cupcakes in there! All with buttercream frosting on top.

The aftermath: There’s strawberry, vanilla, Italian creme, and red velvet on that plate.

Mr. A trying the strawberry cake like a boss

Since we’re decidedly going to pick three different flavors (one flavor for each tier), I asked everyone to give me their top three favorite flavors. Here are the results:

Me: Italian creme, strawberry, red velvet

Mr. A: Italian creme, red velvet, vanilla

Mama Dillo: Italian creme, red velvet, vanilla

Papa Dillo: Red velvet, vanilla, strawberry (He didn’t like the one with “that crap in it,” i.e., the Italian creme. Ha!)

Bromadillo: Italian creme, red velvet, vanilla

Chocolate received NO LOVE. But that’s mostly because there just wasn’t anything special about it. It tasted like chocolate cake at birthdays or office parties, which wasn’t bad, but simply didn’t stand out.

I think the clear winner here was the Italian creme (even though Papa Dillo didn’t care for it much!). Since Papa Dillo’s favorite was the red velvet, we’ll do a red velvet tier as well. I’m still on the fence about the last tier”¦it’ll either be vanilla or strawberry. They were both so good!

What was your cake-tasting experience like? Are you choosing multiple flavors or are you going with one flavor for the entire cake? Should I pick vanilla or strawberry as our final flavor?

@ScottishMrs: @BookishBelle: Vanilla is my absolute favorite! It’s gonna be a difficult choice, for sure. We’re also doing cupcakes, though; maybe we should do the cupcakes vanilla?

@Miss Bat: I generally love chocolate cake, but this one was just so-so. It’s just as well, really; Mr. A doesn’t like what he refers to as “chocolate bread.” Haha! I’m really leaning towards the strawberry…it was seriously awesome!

omg that shirt is amazing. We actually ran into the opposite problem. Our chocolate cake was *amazzzzing* but the vanilla was very meh. I think you should go with strawberry. You just don’t get strawberry flavored cake enough these days. I will say though, cake tasting is the best part of wedding planning hands down!
