On Bouts and Corsages…

I had no idea it was called a boutonniere before Weddingbee. I used to call it “the groom’s chest thing,” and I still call it that in Spanish because I have no idea what it’s called.

I wanted Mr. Toadstool’s bout to somehow connect with my bouquet, and that means wooden flowers.

I decided to add some dried baby’s breath, so I cut a small bunch, taped it, and wrapped some ribbon around it.

Next I glued three flowers to a little branch from the baby’s breath and glued everything together. Oh and remember how Mr. Toadstool’s job involves bumble bees? I added one of the bee charms I got from 900 Jewelry a while ago.

I did the same for the rest of the guys but with a smaller bunch of baby’s breath and just one flower. Natural wood for the groomsmen, and orange for the dads and my brother.

Next, the corsages: I want the moms and sisters to wear something special, but what on earth is a corsage?! No, seriously. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a wedding where one of the moms wears something distinctive, but I decided I’ll use the “It’s my wedding, I can do what I want” card.

I made a small “fan” of baby’s breath and glued the flower on, following the “orange flowers for the family” thing.

Finally, I glued a brooch hook (what are those things really called?) thing to the back of all of them, even the bouts, and that’s it.

My mom and sister already decided they want to wear theirs on their chests, and we didn’t give my brother a choice. I haven’t asked FMIL and FSILs if they want to wear the corsages on their chests, wrists, or at all, but in case they do, they are ready.

Did you DIY your wedding-party bouts? Did you do corsages for the moms?

Are you going to put the ‘corsages’ on any type of ribbon? Typically it’s a small elastic band (the type of elastic you’d find at a fabric store) to fit over the wrist, that way it doesn’t have to attach to anything (like this http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.yourwayeventplanning.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/corsages2.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.yourwayeventplanning.com/blog/brides-corner/unique-wedding-corsages-for-the-modern-bride/&h=407&w=650&sz=97&tbnid=O3iyRY4joyKlPM:&tbnh=76&tbnw=121&zoom=1&usg=__geaSMqNGtC27AdnlWnWY5eAkyKM=&docid=6XpIXbSLkAKErM&sa=X&ei=jk2-UJb7KoW80QGjrIGIDQ&ved=0CF4Q9QEwCA&dur=460).

Just a suggestion, and they look great!

You’ve really got me contemplating the wood flowers thing. I love the way yours look and the fact that they can be done in advance, will hold up well the day of, and will last forever really has me thinking.

Are you using them for centerpieces?

@kmarie719: The link is broken 🙁 but, my mom and sister want to wear theirs as a brooch, I’m yet to ask the Mr.’s sisters and mom how they want to wear theirs, if they want to wear then in their wrists I’ll peel the hook off and glue them to a ribbon.

@BrideLawyer: No, I think they’re a bit small for that (the ones I have, she makes bigger ones), but I never intended to have flower centerpieces, we’re doing candles. But yep, I am absolutely in love with them and the bouquets she makes are way prettier than mine.

    Everything looks great!
BTW They also call them boutonniere in Spanish since it’s a French word or Flor de Ojal.
