Down Came The Rain

Good News: There is just over a week until our wedding, which means we are clear into 10-day forecast range.Bad News:

Thankfully, our ceremony and reception are indoors, but I was still hoping to take some pictures around Cleveland’s Little Italy. Can’t you just imagine the great shots we could get?

From here.

From here.

If it’s pouring down rain, I think that walking around town will be a no-go, since I really don’t want to trash my dress before the reception. But if it’s just drizzling, or a little damp, I think we could do it, so long as we have a giant umbrella.

What are you doing in case it rains on your wedding day? (And anyone have a suggestion for a giant umbrella?)

I have a wedding to shoot that day in Canton and my bride is worried about the rain as well for her outdoor shots. I promise you – some of the CUTEST pictures I have seen of the bride and groom are outside with umbrellas. I love the idea of the rainboots above, how CUTE and great would that be with the backdrops you love?

Bring a blowdryer if it is pouring that day so if your dress does get damp you can get it a bit dry so you aren’t soaking at the reception (if it is a delicate material bring a towel as well and put the dress sandwiched between the towels and put the heat on low). As long as your dress isn’t silk you should be fine!

My wedding day they predicted rain but it never rained a drop! This is Ohio – they never know for sure what is going to happen 😉

Ohhhh… I just heard that the old Presti’s Donuts is closed… I’m sure it happened long ago but I haven’t lived near Cleveland since 2001. So if you couldn’t get a pic near there anyway, Little Italy isn’t worth it. 🙁 Just kidding, sort of… but you can definitely get absolutely priceless pictures in the rain!

Yeh… don’t worry! changes seriously by the minute. Yesterday morning, I checked our wedding day (same day as you!) here in Charlotte, and it was saying it will be party cloudy with a 10% chance of rain.

By the end of the afternoon it was saying thunderstorms with a 60% chance of rain. Hopefully it’s changed again!

I almost want it to rain for my wedding because the huge umbrellas are just so cute! Almost…

    Fingers crossed for you 🙂

If you can’t get outside pics in Little Italy (I’m drooling right now thinking about Pretsi’s), have you considered seeing if you can take indoor pics in Severence Hall or the Art Museum? I’ve seen gorgeous pics from both places.

Rain is supposed to be good luck, as others have said, and the lighting will be amazing in your pictures! Plus, umbrella shots are super cute:)

i just got married this past saturday and it rained the WHOLE day! we just went with it and took shots outside with umbrellas and cute rain shoes. i hope they turned out cute! the lighting is actually better for pictures when it’s cloudy! 🙂

moral of the story- it won’t be the end of the world if it does rain. just be prepared for it!

Overcast days give great light for photos, like other people have said – no squinting! We got black and white golf umbrellas at Target just in case and ended having to use them for about half the photos, which all turned out great – umbrella shots are adorable! If you definitely don’t want rain, take heart – I read an interesting article on the Freakonomics blog that in long range forecasting, weatherman would be more accurate if they just predicted it wouldn’t rain every single day than they are right now, and that they’re really only even worried about being accurate within 3 days, so try to not worry about it yet.
