About two weeks ago, the day after my birthday, I had my very first dress fitting! It went well. I sadly couldn’t take my dress home. There actually was quite a bit that needed to be done. For starters, it was a tad too big on me! I mean, the dress wouldn’t even stay up without me holding onto it! Secondly, it was a tad too long. But, of course, these minor things were expected.
My dress is strapless (hence, why it wouldn’t stay up), and dips in the back, so I opted not to wear a bra. I’m really small in the bust, so most strapless bras either don’t fit me properly or I find them utterly annoying (they constantly slip down my chest because there’s not much to hold them up). Since I didn’t want to be preoccupied with my undergarments during the wedding, I said “no” to a bra, in the traditional sense of the term, at least. Instead, I will be having pads sewn into the front of my gown, and I couldn’t be happier!
One bit of advice for anyone who has yet to have their bridal fitting: eat before you go! Around 9am I had a blueberry muffin, coffee and some orange juice for breakfast and then went to the dentist for a cleaning. From the dentist I went to my fitting and by the time I actually put my dress on, it was 2pm! I was starving! As I stood there in my wedding gown, being pinned and poked, I started to feel lightheaded and faint. All I could think of was food and how long it would be until I could actually eat (which wouldn’t be for awhile)! You see, after my fitting was my sister’s, then it was off to Nordstrom for Mama Beanstalk’s MOB appointment (my days were filled because we were trying to make the most of my short time in town)!
Luckily, we made my mom’s appointment late enough in the afternoon that we were able to grab a bite to eat in the Bistro! But from one bride to another, eat a snack before your fitting (that way you’re not preoccupied with food)!
Sorry no dress photos…I’m keeping my gown under wraps until the big day, which is so hard because I LOVE my dress and want to share it with everyone!
