First Look on Pier
All photos are thanks to our incredible photographer, Amilia of Amilia Photography.
After meeting with my dad in front of the quarry wall for some father-daughter pictures, it was time to go meet Mr. Blue Moon for our first look. We requested that our first look take place on the pier over a lake on the property, and I could see Mr. Blue Moon standing there with his back turned as Amilia and I drove up. Other than our photographer, it was just going to be the two of us.
After parking, we began trekking from the road to Mr. Blue Moon. At this point, I was all nerves, as I thought I would be, but also completely giddy. It was one of many high emotional points during our wedding day.
I finally got to the pier and reached out to poke Mr. Blue Moon in the back. Although I perfected the graceful shoulder tap in my head for my first look with my dad, I lost all logical thought at this point and totally forgot to get my good photo-op in.
I loved watching Mr. Blue Moon’s face light up when he turned around and saw me in my wedding dress and veil. Although I had super romantic moments in my head, we stayed true to character and basically laughed maniacally at the fact that we were getting married in just a couple of hours, and checked each other out a lot.
At this point, we were both starting to get hot and sweaty from the sun beating down on us over this water. I was actually wishing for rain, which was in the forecast but never happened. We were sort of like, “This is great, we love seeing each other all gussied up, but can we continue this inside?” Our photographer needed a few couple’s portraits on this pier, which we were game for, but we both reached a certain point where we were regretting the decision to get married in July instead of December.
Despite the weather, it was so perfect to spend these moments alone, with just our photographer. We had been talking about and waiting for the minutes we would first see each other as bride and groom for literally YEARS, and it was everything I hoped for.
As we wrapped up some of the couple’s portraits, my hair and makeup were slowly melting. At some point when I leaned in to Mr. Blue Moon’s chest for a picture, I smeared half the foundation on my forehead on his white shirt. And probably a lot of my sweat. Oops. Fortunately, Mama Blue got it all out later with a fabric pen. At this point, Amilia suggested we go cool down for a few minutes before heading back out to take photos with our bridal party.
Mr. Blue Moon and I are already laughing about how our wedding was literally one of the hottest weddings of the year. Can’t beat this 90-degree heat!
