Hiya, honey bees! Long time no see…too long, I know, so apologies all around. Missed y’all, and glad to be back.

“Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes. How do you measure, measure a year? In daylights, in sunsets, in midnights, in cups of coffee. In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife. In five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes, how do you measure, a year in the life?”

– Jonathan Larson

One year ago today, Mr. Archer and I found ourselves on ourwedding day. The long road there was undoubtedly worth every step. It was exactly where, what, and with whom were meant to be, and that, my dears, is a glorious thing.

Having a over a hundred of our nearest and dearest come from all over the world to converge in New Orleans and celebrate our love was one of the most humbling blessings of our lives.

Our wedding week was a crazy emotional roller coaster, for a myriad of reasons. So many little things went awry—you know what they say about the best laid plans—that it almost makes me ill, but that’s another story for another post. Regardless of detail disasters, on the day of, being finally married to that precious man of mine was all that mattered. Marriage > wedding, in my book.

And it’s no excuse for my absence, but we’ve been insanely busy this year! A crazy consulting schedule had me on the road for as much as three weeks at a time, while I also took on a new job as a personal assistant for a well-established producer. In addition, family drama has continued, and we’ve been living with and helping raise Mr. Archer’s teenage sister—16 is keeping us on our toes. But our number one goal for our first year of marriage was to quench some of our wanderlust, and after our Costa Rican honeymoon (details soon, promise!) we continued to really make travel a priority, with trips both big and small, to take time to focus on us.

We spent lazy days on Lake Grapevine outside Dallas…

…and ran away to Palm Springs for a long weekend.

And a leisurely week in Cabo san Lucas was a positively dreamy summer vacation.

For our newlywed year, not too shabby!

Mr. Archer, I am so freaking glad you are my husband and partner in reference for the rest of my life. I love you more than is entirely healthy or reasonable, and as we wander the world hand in hand, I know undoubtedly that we are better together. This is still only the beginning, and I am in wonder and awe of the adventures to come. I’d be baldfaced lying if I said every day has been roses and sunshine—I’ve had a bit of a trying year, emotionally, and while that has been a stressor, it has brought reassurance in turn. I can’t help but recognize that I am beyond fortunate to be married to a man who is every day my listening ear, my shoulder to lean on, my rock, my world. Lucky, lucky me.

I have been following your blog for over a year now and have loved learning about all of this crazy, wonderful process! I am also getting married in New Orleans (destination bride from Denver) and would really appreciate any advice you could give me or perspective regarding getting hitched in the NOLA. Feel free to private message me if you would like to talk, I’d love to pick your brain! (for some strange reason, it won’t let me PM you)

Hi! I would love to get in touch with you. I am planning to do a destination wedding in NOLA and am considering the Columns. Visiting with them this week and making the plunge into booking a deposit and would LOVE to know what type of mishaps you are referring to?
