A Thimble of My Love: First Look

I had never heard of the “first look” until I found Weddingbee. I was opposed to the idea at first. I’m a traditional gal in a lot of ways, and when it came to my wedding day I always thought I would see my groom for the first time as I walked down the aisle. I would squeeze my father’s arm, Mr. Thimble would try to stay composed, but surely a tear would sneak down his cheek…but when I sat down with my timeline, I decided I would put those expectations aside in favor of more time for pictures and the prospect of enjoying some of our cocktail hour. =)

This proved to be an excellent idea for us Thimbles to work out our nerves before the big show.

This handsome fella was waiting for me when we pulled into the venue parking lot. I ducked down in the backseat while driver NY MoH hid the car from the guys behind the caterers’ setup. Meanwhile our photographers Lorraine and Greg coordinated timing and our meeting place.

Greg had scouted out a grassy clearing with my favorite barn-red building in the background and kept Mr. Thimble facing away from me while I tiptoed behind him. They made sure the light and angle were just right, and told me to run up and tap him on the shoulder for the classic first-look moment.

I was all business on our wedding day, and I hadn’t anticipated how nervous Mr. Thimble might be. It was wonderful to see each other and enjoy the last quiet moments together before vendors found us to ask questions and early guests arrived (which didn’t take very long).

Mr. Thimble looked a little pale from nerves (or maybe the ear infection that was holding off until we got to Mexico)…

So I pinched his cheeks to warm him up for our first round of couple shots:

Then we took a quick break to find our flowers before taking more pre-ceremony pictures.

Are you doing a first look? Or are you waiting for the traditional first look down the aisle?

I also recommend first looks to take some of the pressure off and spend a few moments together, and have more time for photography. Nice pics!
