I Dream of Genies: And We Were All Yellow, Part 2

Throughout the holud ceremony, there was a party going on in the other rooms of the house. There were a lot of people there. I don’t know if I can say this enough without it losing its significance, but I was just completely overwhelmed by all the people that came to celebrate with us. What’s nice about the holud ceremony and what makes it my favorite part of the Bengali wedding is how intimate it is. It’s meant for the family and those who you consider family. This was the scene most of the evening:

I was looking through the party photos, and I wanted to share every single one, because you can just feel how joyous the event was. And while you don’t know most of these people, to Mr. Genie and me, they mean so much. The holud brought everyone together.

It was nice to be at home, with family, welcoming Mr. Genie and his family into our already mixed clan. If I had to choose between the Bengali wedding ceremony and the gaye holud, I would choose this day over and over again.

Is there any pre-wedding event that held just as much significance for you as (if not more than) the wedding day? Please tell me about it!

Family traditions are so wonderful and though the big day is a wonderful one, it is so lovely to have moments that lead up to the day. There is a scottish highland tradition of watching the sunrise with your to be the day before your wedding. It signifies seeing the sun rise one last time as a lonely person. It can be a simple veiwing or a big deal event. But you meet at the chosen location, thats what makes it special.
