The Mysteries of the Internet, or: How Much?

After going in with way too little direction, we finally chose a dress.

And then we had to order it. Do we go online? In store?

We tried on the dresses at House of Brides in Chicago right before Christmas, and they were also the ones who happened to have the Clover dress Friend MC and I had seen. I asked the consultant while we were there if it mattered if we ordered them online or in store (we were going to order them through their site), and she said that in store means you have someone to help you out if there are issues or anything.

MOH Sis and I had been talking earlier, and she was mentioning that the styles we liked were around $133. I realized she must be confused (or on the wrong site?) because the correct dresses were $171. Both of us agreed that they were on sale online, but our pricing wasn’t even close.

MOH Sis lives in California and Blondie, Mathlete, and I live in Chicago. Sis was insisting the prices of the dresses we wanted were $133. We were all showing $171. So. Weird. She sent us a screenshot and everything. I know Amazon does different pricing based on demand and time of day and how often you’ve visited an item, but I was really surprised a bridesmaids’ dress retailer would have location-based pricing too.

Shamrock tried a proxy server and got the cheaper pricing. So. Weird. He started trying different locations, like what the price would be in Indy ($145) and Arizona (can’t remember).

With the dresses ringing up at $177 in store or $133 if MOH Sis placed the order in California, we decided we were willing to risk online. Hopefully everything will be fine, and if it’s not? Eh, it’s not like I cared all that much in the first place! We’ll work something out.

Anyhow, in line with all these Yelp reviews, they aren’t the easiest to work with anyhow. Our consultant was sweet, but while we stood in the main room, a woman (probably a seamstress) yelled at us three times, asking us what we were doing and informing us we had to work with a consultant, even while our consultant kept repeating we WERE working with her. So, not sad about not giving that woman our business.

Here’s hoping everything works out OK! Did you buy your dresses online or from a store? Anything we should be aware of?

we’re actually ordering our Bill Levkoff dresses off of house of brides online too! (we’re in canada though)… the price at a local salon here was $225 + tax, and online was $170! (including tax and shipping) friggin awesome. (we ordered long dresses so a little more $$)
we’re going to order in march though, so no advice here! here’s hoping it works out for us both 🙂
(sidenote: my sister did her research to find the best price on the most reputable website, and that’s why we went with HOB in case that helps ease your mind)

We just ordered our bridesmaid dresses, Bill Levkoff 768, online from RK Bridal for $164. The bridal store where I live wanted to charge us $280 for the same dresses! I had bought my dress from them in the store and they were so easy to deal with. They helped guide me through ordering the bridesmaid dresses online. Plus since we ordered all the dresses at the same time the shipping was free!

I shopped at HOB – Chicago location – and got them to match the online price I found for my BM’s dresses. You should see if they can do this for you (if they haven’t already bought them).

Hey I am wearing this same exact dress (in blue) for a wedding I’m in this summer! We *just* ordered the dresses online through RK Bridal because it was like $50 cheaper than ordering from a local bridal shop. Our dresses haven’t come in yet, but I also did this for my wedding back in 2012 and we had no issues! I hope it works out for you!

Did you change your mind about having the girls in different dresses? This style is so pretty! (I think it’s the same one Camera’s bridesmaids were in!)

I’m also doing Bill Levkoff dresses in various styles and all the girls got the dresses on they are super fast and have wonderful pricing as well as customer service. They also have more style options than in stores. In ended up being $80 less than stores in DC and no tax and shipping, so highly recommend them!

I am struggling so much with finding affordable dresses, but I’m nervous about ordering online. This made me feel better though! And I’m totally going to find a way to order it from a location that is cheaper – that is so crazy!

@kristen182: @MelBan: @Mrs. Coyote: @poland: Heres hoping online works as well for me!

@Mrs. Rucksack: Nope, just too lazy to post the three styles. All the same would not have worked well for us; the dress above is similar to the style MOH Sis will wear.

@LuckoftheIrish12: Well that would have been smart. We did call the store, but didn’t think to ask about price matching. Hopefully all will go well!

@Miss Milk Cow: Isn’t that weird? I would never have known if MOH Sis wasn’t out of state.

Just so you know, we found the BL sizechart to be kinda wonky. Two of the girls needed to take their dresses in, even AFTER ordering a smaller size than what the size chart recommended. I hope it all works out for you.

@Mrs. Waterfall: Thats really helpful actually. It recommended my sister order a size 4, which seemed crazy to me (she’s seriously tiny) and I told her to order a 2–sounds that will definitely be a good choice! We both have very small shoulders. I know Blondie already had some dresses by BL so she just used those to help determine her size.
