First One In, Last One Out

I recently completed one of the very first projects I started way back when we first got engaged almost 18 months ago (whoa)—our guestbook cards!

If you’ll remember, we are doing a wine bottle guestbook for signatures, but even with three incredibly large bottles of wine, there still won’t really be enough room for the well-wishes I can’t wait to read from our guests.

Enter: guestbook cards.

I fell early for The Guestbook Store’s Casual Wedding Guestbook pages, which look like this:

The first time I saw these guestbook cards, I thought, “Hey, I can design that,” and immediately took to Publisher to create a similar card with my own little twist. Here’s how they turned out:

Once they were good and designed, I forgot about them for 17 months. I finally got around to dusting them off and sent them to Mama Plane to have them printed at her shop.

As the title of this post suggests, not only was this one of the first projects I embarked on, but it was also the last to be finished—with just a few days left before the wedding, I finished cutting these bad boys (by hand!), and I’m very happy with the way they came out!

You may remember similar guestbook cards from Mrs. Unicycle and Mrs. Doily—two women with impeccable taste, if I do say so myself. I do hope, however, to learn from Mrs. Unicycle’s horses’ guests’ mistake—instead of trying to lead them to the guestbook, these cards will be slipped into a folded napkin at each place setting (along with a menu card and a colored pencil). My hope is that more cards will be completed if they are literally right in front of guests’ faces. I guess we will see in a few days!

What kind of guestbook are you planning for your wedding? Married bees, did you have issues getting your guests to sign your guestbook?

We did a photo guestbook from shutterfly using our e-pics and it was setup next to the cardbox & placecards on the guests way into cocktail hour. It didn’t get much attention so we had it moved when dessert was served and the DJ (on his own) told people to go sign it or they wouldn’t get their cars back from the valet – HAHA.

Love this idea and how you are putting it right in front of them. I always seek out the guest book at a wedding because I know he couple works hard on them, but most people do not!

Love the idea of slipping them in the napkin! I’m worried no one will sign our guestbook- wish I had gone this route.

I absolutely love these! We did a traditional guest book but then we did the “advice for the bride and groom” cards, which we saved and read on our first anniversary. So fun! 🙂

It’s so fantastic when you can create something yourself and save some cash; I really like your design and idea to get people to at least SEE them!! For our guestbook we’ve purchased two unfinished adirondack chairs and a bunch of oil-based sharpie markers. “Grab a Marker & Sign a Slat!”

Firstly: I love Love LOVE the bottle of wine guest book idea! I think for Mr.SB and I, it would have to be beer, though, lol. The cards in the napkins is a GREAT idea!

I’d really like to use a picture frame guest book, since I am a framing specialist, but it’s just soooo over done. The other thing I was thinking was a Shutterfly-type book but with pictures of places we want to go/have been. I’m not sure how it would work though.

What a fun idea! Our DJ was awesome at telling our guests to fill out our “guest poster” but there were still a lot of people that didn’t, which makes me a little sad.

They’re so cute! I really wanted to do something fun for our guest book but ran out of time 🙁
Good thinking on putting them at each plate setting.
