And If We Do, Where?

Despite the despair and confusion in my last post about the honeymoon, we actually have a few good ideas of where to spend this three to four  night mini-moon! I’m going to list these in order from most probable to mostly wishful thinking.

As a side note, we agreed pretty early on that we want our honeymoon (preferably scenic) to be 75% relaxation, 25% adventure. If you read my last post, you’ll know why. Spoiler alert: Sh*t’s about to get real hectic.

1. Austin’s Hill Country

Austin is only about a five-hour drive (and one we and GM T make frequently). The hills of Austin are gorgeous, and Austin has some pretty impressive resorts available. Given the Manatees’ fondness for drink, downtown has unlimited nightlife and activities to keep us busy for the 25% adventure. Cheap, close, and, hello, it’s Austin. Need I say more? However, we’ve also been there many times. Is this the most exciting option? No.

2. The Oregon Coast

I hate to admit this, but Twilight had some seriously jaw-dropping scenery. I investigated where it was filmed. If you guessed Washington, that is incorrect. Oregon. Also partly filmed in British Columbia, which is absolutely breathtaking in general.

Oregon is gorgeous.

It has a beautiful coastline, Portland, canyons, and mountains. Silver Falls State Park has 10 waterfalls. Ten. Oregon also has white-water rafting, which I fell in love with during my two-week stint in Costa Rica, and the mister got a taste of it during one of our trips to Colorado.

Can you tell I’ve got my fingers crossed for this one?

3. A Four-Day Cruise to the Bahamas

Image via Bahamas Air Charter

My father used to travel quite a bit for his old job and has quite a bit of travel points saved up. He has offered that we could use some of these travel points either for a cruise or (since the best cruises leave from Florida) flights to a cruise. I’ve never been on a cruise (although Mr. Manatee has) and transportation and meals are mostly included! The bad side is, unless you want to just wander around on shore or stay on the boat forever, excursions are expensive. Also, Mr. Manatee has already been to the Bahamas (spoiled!), and we kind of want to go somewhere we’ve either both been to or haven’t been to. That way neither of us will be too “been there, done that” about it.

Right now, the Bahamas actually seems like the least interesting and most overdone honeymoon. Never thought I’d say that!

Did you investigate unconventional honeymoons?

I’ve been dying to visit Oregon again since I had a short weekend in Eugene is college. Can’t go wrong with ATX either!

I just spent some time googling Oregon’s scenery, and you’re right–it’s gooorgeous. I would love to take a drive down McKenzie Pass to see the lava flows, mountains, and waterfalls.

If you do decide to go to the bahamas, I would absolutely recommend trying to find a way to do at least one or two excursions; you don’t have to go through the cruise line and can save some money that way. When I was there, I went swimming with dolphins, scuba diving, and para-sailing over the water, and those are amazing memories I am so glad I have with my family. You can also just take some snorkles and find a good spot to look at tropical fish, which are easy to find.

We’re going on a three-day cruise to the Bahamas in addition to our Disney honeymoon and we’re very excited about it, but I agree–if you’re not excited about it, don’t go! Your pictures of Oregon are ABSOLUTELY breathtaking and I’m sure it would be an incredible honeymoon!

you might wanna check out and see if there are any travel shows in your area- i go to one in my area every year.

huge discounts for booking that day, lots of raffles, silent auction etc. see if there’s anything like that by you!

Oregon (and Washington) are gorgeous! We went there a few years back and I loved it! And, yes, we totally checked out Twilight places, like Multnomah Falls which is feature in the first movie!

Haha, I read the books, and I went with some of my girlfriends to the movies, but I always feel like such a pre-teen referring to Twilight! But when I saw the movies and saw the insanely beautiful scenery, I fell in love!
P.s, ironically, my dress is the same one that Bella wore in her wedding nightmare! Oh no!

You could also consider a 5 day cruise to the Western Caribbean out of Tampa 🙂 We did one last year and had a blast on Cozumel and the Grand Cayman without doing any planned excersions (we just explored by ourselves). They aren’t too much more than the Bahamas.

Definitely go to Oregon!!! Portland is a really cool city too, so if you go you should leave at least 1 day to spend in the city. There’s an amazing bookstore (Powell’s) and lots of hot chocolate places. Yumm.
