Mrs. Genie’s Holiday Gift Guide

Hi hive! I’m all done with telling you about my wedding(s), but I couldn’t resist the opportunity to talk about holiday gifts! I love giving gifts and think about Christmas gifts all year long, but with Pinterest and blogging, it’s not always easy to keep those things a secret. Luckily, I don’t need to keep them a secret from you!

I’ve been using my phone to take pictures ever since I got it, and basically haven’t used my older point-and-shoot for a really long time, so long that it’s basically obsolete now. The problem is that while phones are convenient, they don’t take the greatest shots. I’m not that committed to photography that I need or want a DSLR, but I do want something that takes better pictures for big trips, life events, and blogging. This is Canon’s long-zoom point-and-shoot with a wide-angle lens. It’s the best of both worlds in a compact body!

Sometimes, I think it’s a mark of adulthood when you start regularly wearing a watch. Again, this is where my phone has thwarted me and given me away as a youngin’. I sometimes have to work at events where I need to keep an eye on the time, and I’d like to be able to keep my hands free from my phone. This one from Fossil has a nice, feminine design, and looks like it will go with most outfits.

It wouldn’t be a gift guide for me without at least one book on the roster! Recently, I’ve picked up a lot of my fiction books from the library (best thing ever!), but I read a lot about Malala Yousafzai when she was shot and followed her story. I’d like to own this book to support education for women all over the world.

Mr. Genie is one of those guys that has everything and rarely says when he needs or wants anything. He also has a birthday very close to Christmas. So when it comes time, he is a tough one to buy for. But I thought of a few things other than new socks and a winter henley (a tradition in our house).

Mr. Genie and I are huge fans of Parks and Rec, and Ron Swanson is basically a hero around here. I think Mr. Genie would really appreciate this manly offering to his library.

This is always a go-to gift at Christmas/birthday time for Mr. Genie. He insists on not needing one every year, and then, once he gets it, he uses it daily, not just for games with his brothers and friends, but for streaming video apps like Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, and HBO Go. It also makes me a happy camper when we can watch shows on the TV, and not on a computer screen.

I can think of at least 10 girls to give this awesome Harry Potter bracelet to. It’s a subtle nod to our beloved literary wizard. Gifting the fangirls in your life is so easy now with Etsy. I’m sure you can find stuff for The Hunger Games and Dr. Who, too.

Every year, I try to give my best girls one of the best books I read that year. This year, The Girl You Left Behind captured my heart, and I think it’s a lovely book to give your girlfriends. JoJo Moyes’s other popular novel, Me Before You, is also a good pick.

How great is this for the book lovers in your life? I think this would be a great gift for your guy friends, too! Alcoholic beverages classed up by literary names? I think I can get behind that.

I hope you all have happy holiday season filled with family, friends, and food you love. I’m sure getting something on your wish list won’t hurt, either! 😉
