I’ll get back to posting my wedding pictures soon, but first I’m going to tell you about my flower girl baskets. Just like with deciding on ring pillows, I had an equally hard time picking out baskets and I waited until the last possible minute to come up with something. At least after making my DIY ring pillows it was easier to figure out what to do since I just made them in the same style.
I found some baskets on clearance at the craft store that looked similar to the grapevine wreaths used in the ring pillows. I already had left over fabric, reindeer moss and ribbon, and that’s pretty much all I needed. We took the fabric and lined the basket with it, holding it in place with some tacs and hot glue.
Then we took the leftover reindeer moss from the ring pillows and hot glued it around the top edge of the basket slightly under the fabric so that it just kind of peeked out.
Then we just tied some ribbon around the base of the handles and Viola! Me and my sister both worked on these at the same time and I think it only took us about 15 minutes to finish them. It was really easy
Since this was yet another DIY project that I waited until the 11th hour to make, I’m quite pleased with the results. The ribbon was a little stiff looking and if I had more time, I probably would’ve gotten better ribbon, but oh well – no big deal! One of my sisters got the rose petals for me the morning of the wedding. She just went to the grocery store and got about a half dozen white roses and picked the petals off.
I must admit that I was also quite impressed with how well the baskets “matched” the ring pillows since they were both so thrown together without a lot of forethought.
- 2 baskets at $5/each = $10
- Reindeer moss (also used for ring pillows) = $5
- Blue ribbon was leftover from something else = $0
- Rose petals = $10
Total for 2 flower girls = $25, including petals
