Mrs. Mouse’s Holiday Gift Guide

Even though it’s inevitable this year that the focus of gift-giving in my family is going to be on our one-year-old (and the only grandchild on both sides), I still want to take the opportunity to choose nice things for The Dude, my mom, and my in laws. Since the in laws are in Colorado and we’re traveling by plane to visit them, we have to choose our gifts wisely; we can either buy small things, or we can purchase online and have them shipped directly to Colorado, then wrap them when we get there. (We have done this the past couple of years, and it works out pretty well!)

I’ve also got a few things I’ve been eyeing for myself.

Handmade Linen Cocktail Napkins from Smith Handmade, $23 for a set of 6

I realized after busting out the “nice” napkins for Thanksgiving that my nice napkins are actually puke colored, perpetually wrinkled (yes, I tried ironing them), and non-matching. So I think it’s time for something new and cute! I am obsessed with the neon + neutral combo (still not sick of it).

American Apparel Corduroy Skater Skirt from ASOS, $80

One of my rules for fashion is WWZDD (What Would Zooey Deschanel Do?), and I’m pretty sure she would rock the hell out of this skirt. With some really cute tights. So this skirt is at the top of my wish list. I might actually buy it myself so I have it to wear to holiday parties this season. Hmm, decisions, decisions…

Amika Hair Oil via Amazon, $23

I got a trial size of this hair oil in a Birchbox a couple of years ago and haven’t been able to get it out of my head. It is the perfect product for my hair when I want to wear it natural (no heat-styling products), and it smells delicious.

S. by J.J. Abrams & Doug Dorst via Amazon Price, $18 (temporarily out of stock)

I am completely intrigued by the concept of this book, which is a story within a story. From the Amazon description: “A young woman picks up a book left behind by a stranger. Inside it are his margin notes, which reveal a reader entranced by the story and by its mysterious author. She responds with notes of her own, leaving the book for the stranger, and so begins an unlikely conversation that plunges them both into the unknown.” Very cool! I hope they restock it in time for the holidays!

KitchenAid Ultra Power Mixer in Apple Green via Target ($240)

It’s no secret that the Dude is the cook/baker of the family. And ever since our hand-me-down hand mixer broke, he’s been mixing things by hand. He made whipped cream a few months ago, and it took forever and almost destroyed his wrist. I don’t know what he was thinking, LOL. Anyway, a KitchenAid was pretty high on his list, and we both love the green apple color.

Kent State T-Shirt from HOMAGE, $28

The Dude has obscure taste in football teams, as well as a terrifyingly extensive knowledge of the sport. Don’t ask me where Kent State is, or what a “golden flash” is. He wanted this shirt, I bought it—no questions asked. 🙂

Minnetonka Slippers via Amazon, $48

He asked me to pick out some soft-soled slippers for him (because I have excellent taste, obviously). 🙂 These are cheaper than Uggs but still pretty nice.

My Mom

Gift Card to Lululemon

My mom loves working out, and she loves luxe things, so I think she would have fun shopping at Lululemon for some chic workout gear!

Tea Kettle from Le Creuset, $85

My mom told me that she wants a new tea kettle, and that she wants something from Le Creuset but not sure what. Um, how perfect would this be? Bonus: that color matches the teeny Le Creuset pot she already has.

My Mother-in-Law

Calphalon Unison Nonstick Double Grill Press Pan Set from Williams-Sonoma, $100

My in laws are just finishing up a kitchen renovation, so I know my MIL will appreciate any of the kitchen-related gifts on her wish list. This one we’d have to ship directly to them and wrap it when we get to Colorado!

Pandora Charm Purple CZ Sterling Silver from Jared, $65

Or we could get her a couple of the Pandora jewels on her list—plenty of room for them in our suitcase!

My Father-in-Law

Bottle Cap Left Hand Clock from Left Hand Brewing Co., $40

Love that this clock runs backward (on “left hand” time). Might be a fun gift.

Beer Brewing Supplies, like this False Bottom For 8 Gallon Kettle from, $70

My FIL has been really into brewing his own beer over the past couple of years, so we’ll probably get him some of the latest supplies he needs. We may go to Austin Homebrew Supply, a local beer brewing supply store that has a ton of cool stuff. Once again, we’d probably have to ship this ahead of us since we wouldn’t be able to carry such large gifts on our flight.

My Sister-in-Law

Coconut Body Butter from The Body Shop, $20

My SIL is in love with all things coconut, so I think she would appreciate this body butter. I love The Body Shop for its emphasis on natural and fair trade ingredients, and I know my SIL will appreciate that too.

Gift Card to REI

As a lover of all things outdoorsy and athletic, my SIL would love a gift card to REI. She could indulge her rock climbing and yoga hobbies here, for sure.

That about covers it! Still got lots of stocking stuffers to think up, as well as finding gifts for my brothers, our babysitter, and a few close friends.

What’s on your wish list this year?

    My favorite gift guide yet!

I actually went to college with a Kent State football player– he was the nicest guy! He went to Kent State in the fall so he could play, and Ohio State the rest of the year because he was serious about school.
