Newport Nuptials: Dancing the Night Away

personal photo

After the speeches and parent dances, we had a quick bite to eat and then began mingling with guests. We opted to skip the receiving line at the church and instead went around to all the tables during the dinner hour to greet our guests.

Once we said hello to every table, my bridesmaids grabbed me and I don’t think we left the dance floor all night.  We spent the night dancing away to our favorite songs with our friends and family. As we were recently watching our wedding video, Starfish Mom pointed out that it looked like we only invited females to our wedding.

Literally, almost every shot other than those with the wedding party, is one of the girls at the wedding. Apparently our guy friends don’t like to dance.

As we were watching, I started thinking of friend’s weddings that we’ve attended and it’s pretty typical. The girls always congregate on the dance floor and the guys always end up outside or by the bar.

The girls definitely dominated the floor during Beyonce’s Single Ladies.

Mr. Starfish bounced back and forth between his friends and joining me on the dance floor. He did opt out of the line dances, which end up on many people’s do not play lists, but always on the top of my family’s must play list. It’s a surefire way to get my aunts dancing and joining the cousins on the dance floor. Even Mr. Starfish’s family got into the spirit with Cotton Eyed Joe and the Cha Cha Slide. Seeing as I struggled during the first dance, I was pretty impressed with myself for making it almost the whole way through Cotton Eyed Joe.

Despite the female dominance on the dance floor, some of the men did bust some moves during classics like Shout.

And made their way to the dance floor to join dates and daughters during the slow dances.

And the guys that could really dance took over the floor and entered the circle.

Does your family do circles? You know, when a group of people form a circle and people take turns dancing in the middle? My family is a big fan and formed several circles throughout the night. We especially like clapping in circles.

Watching our wedding video, it just re-affirmed the fact that I have no moves and should avoid circles at all costs.

I almost took out a bridesmaid at one point when Mr. S lead me into the middle.

It was entertaining to see everyone else join in though—we definitely have some friends that can dance.

So, do girls typically dominate the dance floor at the weddings you’ve attended? Are you a fan of circles, too?

Yay, looks so fun! And I agree on the heavy girl population, but there’s also typically that one guy that has all the moves and ends up doing the worm

Looks like such a fun dance party! Our family and friends are known for some dance circles too!

Your dance floor was packed! We had some dance circles going on at our reception, too. 🙂

@EJeets10: LOL – there was SO “that guy” at my cousin’s wedding! And he did do the worm!

I can’t say I’ve ever been a part of a dance circle, nor should I because I really have no moves, but it looks like a blast!

We had a good mix throughout the night, but the ladies were definitely in the majority. No dancing circles (thank goodness for my sake)!

I am a huge fan of circles but I am also terrified of them at the same time. I so long to be in the center of one but know I should not because my dance moves are something that should be kept at home.

Line dances definitely make it on my playlist! I LOVE them! But yeah, I’m a little worried about the photos that will be taken of me dancing. There were several photos & videos taken at my mom’s birthday party – and yeah. It’s a good thing I love to dance so much, otherwise I wouldn’t get on the dance floor!

Dance dance… LOVE IT! I’m teaching my dad (who is almost 74, btw!) to do the Cha Cha Slide, and he WILL be out there on the floor when the time comes!

Also, I so so so want the menswear to be navy suits instead of black tuxes, but I got the thumbs down response to that idea and then was out-voted. Boo. Your guys (1st photo) look great!! =D
