Late Night Finishing Touches

After we got back from the rehearsal dinner, I was pretty freaked out because I felt like there was so much to do. Mr. Cannon and Cherry Bomb went to bed, and I finished up our last wedding projects. I knew I would be stapling the programs, but there was one project that completely slipped my mind until the rehearsal. Pastor Bob told my nephew he would be carrying in the rings on a pillow or something, and I was kind of like, “Uh, yes”¦” because I did not put together anything for the rings to be put on. Crap! So, I dug around in my cabinets to find a small white plate I knew I had. It was from an old set of dishes I had in college. The rest of the set had been given to Goodwill except for this one plate, which was kept because I had put tuna on it to bribe my cat into a cat carrier when we were moving. So, as you can imagine, I was not very attached to it and was fine with it being sacrificed to the wedding.

I used the ribbons left over from my bouquet construction to decorate the plate and then used one smaller ribbon to tie the rings. Considering how completely half-assed and last minute this construction was, I actually love the way it turned out!

After that was finished, I just needed to finish stapling together the programs. I had designed the programs in Word earlier in the week, and they were printed and ready for assembly. I printed the outside covers on white card stock and the insides in a variety of bright colors. The insides contained information about the ceremony and our attendants, and some thank yous. A word search was created in Excel, and the coloring portion was from the Crayola Free Coloring Pages site. (We gave out crayons and pencils to everyone as they came into the ceremony so they could color the programs as they waited for the ceremony to start.)

And then I went to bed and couldn’t sleep. I always have a hard time sleeping before a big event (especially if I have to get up early for it), so it wasn’t too surprising. So, I got back up and wrote my wedding day post to the hive and wandered around the house, with my heart in my throat and my stomach where my heart should be. I spent the entire morning of our wedding feeling like I was going to throw up because I was so nervous. And, apparently the phrase “scared the shit out of me” is not just a colloquialism, but an actual thing that happens because I spent quite a bit of that morning in the bathroom as well.

I always thought it was weird that people would be nervous about getting married. It seems almost expected for people to ask brides and grooms if they are nervous before the wedding, and I didn’t understand why they would be. This was because I had always thought that people were asking if they were nervous about being married to their partner, which, it seemed to me, would be pretty stupid. Why had you agreed to marry someone if you were nervous about doing so? But, having been through it now, I realize people are really asking if you’re nervous about the wedding. The wedding is scary. It’s a big event you have put together to reflect and celebrate who you are. Everyone will be looking at you and if the event flops, it’s all on you. So yeah, it’s not crazy to be nervous. Or completely freaking out and unable to eat or sleep (if you’re me). I had no doubts or worries about me and Mr. Cannon, but a million about the event itself.

Next up, I begin actual day-of REAL RECAPS! OMG!!!

Was anyone else rendered temporarily insane with worry over their big day? And I’m thinking about calling my recaps “The Rainbow Connection.” Too cheesy? Any better ideas?

Badass ring plate Cannon! And oh poooor you… my brother uh…. he has the same problems when he gets stressed out and he can’t eat or sleep and spends the next day in the bathroom with everything coming out all ends. It’s a bad stress side effect. 🙁
