Table Label

Table names are one of those details where the personality of the couple can really shine. I had lots (!) of ideas. Many of which Mr. PaC shot down quickly. Hrmmm.

yellow things – this one takes commitment! Also, I’d rather leave the thematic education to Sesame Street.

random things that we love – under apothecary bell jar cloches for a museum or terrarium feel. I just wanted an excuse to buy/rent 10+ bell jars.

childhood items (slinky, Legos, plastic dinos, horses, crayons, Hot Wheels, marbles, kaleidoscope, alphabet blocks, mini sailboats, army men, pinwheels)

Even though we don’t have kids, there are plenty of these items around our house. We’re a couple of kids at heart!

types of boats (sloop, yawl, ketch, cutter, schooner, dinghy, dhoni, catboat, fractional rig sloop, tall ship)

Given strong consideration for a few weeks until Mr. PaC came to the realization that, yes we like sailing, but not enough for a nautical theme to overtake our reception.

Delaware landmarks & cities (Winterthur, Hagley, Nemours, Brandywine Creek State Park, Dewey Beach, Greenville, Old New Castle, Dover)

An okay idea, but I wanted to use my own photographs. And what do you choose to represent a whole city? Too much thinking/work!

travel (Mexico, OBX, Napa & Sonoma, Philadelphia, Chester River, Finger Lakes, NYC, Nantucket, Bethany/Dewey Beach)

Showcasing the destinations we’ve visited together was his idea. I was lukewarm about this one.

And then my favorite idea, ever: wine regions or varietals!

Since our centerpieces are modified wine bottles and the escort card base is a cork, it made perfect sense. But both were nixed by Mr. PaC. Why so cruel! He claimed these themes were too pretentious. I argued it made sense: we’ve taken two big wine trips, I have a wine blog and obvs we’re really into wine. Insert big, exasperated sigh.

Our 2009 Finger Lakes trip, a month before the proposal.

So the compromise became beverages of a different sort: cocktails! Every year, we seem to have a new favorite drink. A quick brainstorming session turned up a solid list of 30 pared down to our favorites:

  • White Russian – skiing drink, pop culture reference and favorite of several friends/relatives
  • Dark & Stormy – sailing drink
  • Orange Crush – the unofficial cocktail of Dewey Beach (and our signature cocktail)
  • Dirty Martini – a longtime favorite. Vodka, on the rocks please!
  • Woo Woo – a fruity shot that appears at Mr. PaC’s family’s weddings
  • Gin & Tonic – my grandfather’s drink of choice and a more serious option
  • Margarita – no explanation needed
  • Mojito – our summer of ’09 drink
  • Salty Dog – another nod to sailing
  • Rum Runner – for the rummies among us (I’m looking at you, Mom!)
  • Cosmopolitan – a martini for the more, ahem, cosmopolitan guests
  • Piña Colada – one of my guilty pleasures

And the name for our sweetheart table?? Sex on the beach! (Ahahahaha, just kidding! Calm down family members.)

Now that the table names are set, the next task is grouping our guests into tidy groups of eight. Photos of the table markers are forthcoming!

Which cocktail table would you like to be seated at? Did you choose table numbers, names or forgo the whole assigned seating mess entirely?

Love the names, I would want to be at the mojito table!

@Miss Pony – aha ha ha ha. I was thinking the same thing! Can I try one of everything and THEN decide which table I can sit at!? If no, then point me in the direction of the pina colada or margarita table please! (with salt!)

    Rum Runner table please! lol.

We are having 25 guests total, which is three tables. Because I am corny, we named them Love, Honor, and Respect. I think. I have 5.5 months to change my mind and I probably will! 🙂

I would definitely want to be at the margarita table, although I love a good Dark & Stormy! We named our tables after streets where we had lived — and tried to work it out so the people who sat there knew us when we lived on that street. I am really excited to see how your wedding all comes together, I think it will be beautiful. (As an aside, I really want to go to the wineries in the Finger Lakes, but my husband is not convinced it will be worth the trip!)

@KCheer: I suggested random numbers too, but he shot it down. “No numbers over a hundred.” (Really?) I had a good list going too. Glad someone’s having fun with this method.
@coasterkim: I like it, maybe because it is a little silly. Weddings don’t have to be so serious! 🙂
@Courtnee: That’s a great way to share details of your courtship with the guests. I bet they’ll wander from table to table to read about the significant places.
@MissCasey: Trust me, the friends sitting at the Dirty Martini table won’t mind! They’re all martini drinkers and can appreciate the joke.
@Mrs. Elephant: Aaaaand now I want a mojito. But it’s 12:30 and I’m at work.
@vtbride2010: Mr. PaC said the poor bartenders are going to be mixing up these drinks all night because of what we did. We did give our venue coordinator a heads up on the White Russians b/c it is such a popular drink w/ our guests.
@mittens111211: What a sweet idea! There are so many fun themes you could do with a smaller number of tables!!
@sarahnyc23: You NEED to go to the Finger Lakes. I’m a wine snob and it was a great trip (not as mind-blowing as Napa/Sonoma, but much easier and cheaper.) I’ll PM you the link to my wine blog with reviews.

Our’s is a long ways off, but we’ve decided each table will be a thing we enjoy or that brought us together that are super quirky, but the table centerpieces will have a placard with them that explains the randomness/why we chose it…

    Current Ideas:
    Harry Potter

Among various others, but we’ll end up narrowing it down to 5 or 6. Very small group. 🙂

We have a rustic nature theme- so I’m taking photographs of nature items arranged so it looks like a number…

like rocks in the shape of a number 6.
