The Cannons’ Love Story

I’m back to re-cap our wedding, and it’s led me to a lot of reflection. First, on our relationship as a whole. Mr. Cannon turns 30 this week. He was 23 when we started dating. It’s hard to believe we spend most of our 20s together. In fact, over a fifth of his life has been spent with me.

The first year we were together, I wasn’t sure about the permanence of our relationship. I had just gotten out of a long-term relationship and was nearing the end of my bachelor’s degree when we started dating. I didn’t know if I wanted to tie myself to someone at a time when so much change would be occurring in my life. I was very open with Mr. Cannon about my indecision. But by that very first summer, I knew I felt very strongly about him and I thought we had a future. So, I asked him to move to Arizona with me. And he did.

The first year of our relationship was spent partying, goofing off, and getting to know each other. I got my first “real” job that year and we made a lot of adjustments. We moved in together late in that first year and have been together ever since. Around the end of that first year we started thinking about getting married. We talked about it a lot, and started thinking about what we wanted our wedding to be like. That vision changed a LOT over the years until we actually got married.

We had our first child, and little Cherry Bomb changed our lives in many ways. Just when I thought I couldn’t love him any more, I did. Something big happened when Cherry Bomb was born. I don’t know if it was having a kid, or just maturing in general, but our relationship reached a different level. It almost hurt that we weren’t married.

So when we finally decided to forget the formalities and finally go for it, I was ecstatic. Mr. Cannon let me have my way with a rainbow wedding, he got to play DJ, and, of course, we both were pumped about our BBQ reception.

And we finally got married last September, and got right on our goal to have another baby in 2012.

And a few weeks ago, our new little Cannonball arrived—a little girl, seven pounds, seven ounces.

Thinking back on these last years together, I can’t help but be amazed how far we’ve come and how much we’ve changed. But at the core, we’re still the same dumb kids we were back then—just as goofy, only like a million times more in love.

And now that I’ve got a bit of free time, I’m going to finally tell you guys about the day our married life began. The Cannon recaps are finally here!
