To Boutonniere or Not to Boutonniere?

After spotting this beautiful wedding on Once Wed a little while ago, I’ve considered throwing out the boutonniere idea altogether. Though, they can be potentially quite fun and quirky like this groom’s boutonniere:

Look how clean cut this groom looks in just his suit with his beautiful bride beside him. The tie clip across the skinny tie and hint of a handkerchief in his pocket finish off the polished look.

I think it’s the fact that that boutonnieres scream WEDDING that I am a little weary of them. I know that may sound weird to some, but I’m just not really that interested in all the ‘traditional’ elements. And I think this couple proves that simple can be stunning.

Are you opting out of boutonierres? What are some bout alternatives that you’ve seen out there?

We will be doing bouts, but not flowers- I am thinking simple cockades.

I’m getting married in July and see no purpose behind the boutonnieres. I’ve read why they were worn in the 1700s, but they’re no longer worn to ward off evil spirits and I don’t care too much about tradition. It’s a waste of money, and even though I know they’re not expensive, why pay for them when they’re going to be worn for a couple hours then thrown in the trash??
