Colors *May* Be Different Than They Appear”¦

I am a grade A procrastinator. Right before I hopped on a plane to come to England I thought I should pack as many DIY projects I could. So I ordered feather fans. I planned on sanding down the handles and repainting them a darker color for bridesmaid “bouquets”. Then I ordered purple/lavender tissue paper for our tissue paper pomanders. I ordered them online. Online. Onliiiiine. Can any computer-type people spot my mistake?

I made another rookie mistake. I ordered recycled tissue paper from the internets. In the interest of full disclosure, they do tell you that the colors may appear different from the paper’s true color. With that warning safely out of my head I ordered two colors in the lavender family (or so I thought).

The fans arrived the day before we flew out, and to my dismay they were too tiny.

This could have easily been solved if I had taken a ruler out and visualized the dimensions before placing my order. The tissue paper also arrived and it was glaringly incorrect. So although I had a brilliant plan to order and pack several items to DIY while in England, I did not leave enough time to return them if they were incorrect.

Thankfully my sister took charge and is returning the items. What this unfortunately means is that she now has taken on the task of folding 160 miniature paper flowers.

The lesson from this situation: think before you order, and maybe make a few measurements, too.

Anyone else make any purchasing/ordering mistakes with their DIY projects? How did you fix them?

Couldn’t you have had them shipped to you in England or is it difficult to have things delivered because it is out of the US. If so that sucks. At least you have a sis who is willing to help.

I ordered present for my bridal party as “Will you be my…?” gifts, for my MOH (and sister) I ordered a clutch in her favorite color, but when I got it the clutch was more like a coin purse – my fault I should have also taken out a ruler :-/

Hahaha I definitely fall victim to the “too lazy to pull out ruler” curse. Yet, I keep doing it. I feel your pain. But the deals on the net are so good, and the product selection so vast, it’s hard to justify shopping around in person, driving store to store, not finding what you want!

Because of what I do for work I KNOW to take out a ruler, yet I almost just spent hundreds on vases that would have been 3 times too big!

I was realy worried about this, and so certainly spent more than I needed to ordering samples of everything. And then had to place additional orders for things that I already owned a few of, which confused DH to no end (But why did we only order two if we need two hundred?) I think it was worth it, because I did have a few samples that did not look like I thought they would.

Oh man, that sucks. I have ordered quite a few things online and they have come and been perfect so far. However, I did make a rooky mistake for one of my DIY projects. My finished project turned out to be to small and I knew I should have measured to begin with, but I couldn’t find my ruler so decided to eyeball it. It was way off. Leason learned.

This is totally un-wedding related (gasp!) but I did recently order online my grandmother a Christmas gift from Terry’s Village and when it arrived (right before Christmas) it wasn’t what I had thought it would be. I e-mailed them to return it and they asked me NOT to send it back and to donate it to a local charity of my choice! A-mazing!! Plus they refunded the full amount like a day later into my acccount.

Yeah, it’s definitely tough to judge colors online. I had ordered purple rice paper parasols only to realize they looked more pink than anything in person. Luckily the company I used, ‘Ideal Favors’, is awesome to deal with and super fast so I just exchanged them. Good thing though, b/c I too am a procrastinator and it was just a couple weeks before the wedding!
