Honeymoon - Part II

July 31st, 2006 @ 1:19 pm by Mrs. Spider

After countless hours of agonizing research, we choose The Palms in Turks and Caicos.

honeymoon.JPGhoneymoon2.JPG

I was very pleased with the hotel’s own honeymoon package and American Airlines flight prices, but I posted an open call for better quotes on LIWeddings.com and got a few strange replies with prices that were higher or straight per-night prices without any package extras.

I have never used a travel agent before; frankly, I feel like if a deal exists, I’ll find it on the Internet somewhere. But my interactions with one particular agent, whom I found on pc1004rn’s blog, made me realize why travel agents still exist in this age of totally self-sufficient internet users: SERVICE.

I went to her with a price tag and asked her to beat it. When she came back only matching it, I had to decide whether I wanted to go at this on my own or take her up on her professional support. In the end, her prompt, informative and well researched emails made it pretty easy for me to decide to book through her. If anything, for the same price, I figured I am getting someone willing and able to do the dirty work for me haha.

Honeymoon - Part I

July 28th, 2006 @ 2:27 pm by Mrs. Spider

Dude, planning the honeymoon is freaking like pulling my fingernails off with pliers, then soaking my pulpy bloody fleshy nail beds in lemon juice, and then super gluing the nails back on just to do it all over again. Seriously.

In determining where we want to go I used three factors: Theme = BEACH; Cost = MODERATE; and Weather= NO EFFING HURRICANES. Seems simple right? Let’s take a look at where theknot.com says will be perfect:

OCTOBER
Australia, Bali, Belize, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, Central & South Africa, Egypt, Fiji, French Polynesia, Hawaii, Italy, Madagascar, Maldives, Mauritius, Mexico, Morocco, Seychelles, Spain, USA

I think I will be soooooooooo ready for the beach after my wedding, I am not gonna be a happy camper if I need to sit on a plane for 10+ hours. So that whittles down the list a bit. I also want to avoid destinations that require a ton of pre-planning ie. sightseeing and waiting on long ass lines to see ruins or climb stairs or kiss a magical rock. Too bad the Caribbean is shadowed by the threat of rain and hurricanes man. Otherwise, it would be perfect. Most islands are but a few hours away from NYC, each promises Travel Channel beaches, turquoise waters la la la, and with so many competing resorts to choose from, prices are reasonable.

After much debate and months of surfing luxurylink.com (a fabulous vacation package website my BM Ange used for her own honeymoon) and cross referencing each deal by reading tripadvisor.com reviews, I said screw it, let the hurricanes come, I’m going to pick the places I want to go. If a hurricane does strike down upon us, shit, well I guess we’ll just have to honeymoon again at a later date. So I narrowed it down to a few places:

Honeymoon - Part I : wedding new york Honeymoon honeymoon.jpg

Honeymoon - Part I :  wedding new york Honeymoon2 honeymoon2.jpg

Marquis Los Cabos, MEXICO

With its gorgeous infinity pool and chic open air lobby. This hotel is a luscious delight. Their 7-night honeymoon package includes:

  • VIP Transportation from the Airport to Marquis Los Cabos.
  • Ocean front view, comfortable balcony for dining, hydro massage bathtub and separate shower, Bulgari bathroom amenities, imported luxury Italian Frette bed linens with a goose down duvet.
  • Marquis Los Cabos signature welcome drink.
  • Buffet Breakfast daily for two to be taken in our Restaurant «°®ista Ballenas?
  • Three to Five lunches and 1 dinner for two to be taken in any of our restaurants including Suite Service during your stay (Include one hour of alcoholic drinks during the lunches and dinner).
  • A daily bath turndown which consists of a special cocktail, the preparation of your hydro massage tub with scented bath salts and candles to set the mood.
  • A chilled bottle of imported champagne upon arrival.
  • A special romantic gift.
  • A Rent-A-Car with budget for three days (Does not include insurance and gasoline).
  • A Romantic Dinner for two in our Gourmet Restaurant «°…anto Del Mar?(including 1 bottle of wine).
  • A special massage for both of you at our luxurious international Spa per stay.
  • The pleasure of being pampered with one manicure or one pedicure per stay in our Spa.
  • Unlimited access to our fitness center.
  • VIP Transportation from Marquis Los Cabos to the Airport.

The price: $2720 PER PERSON (the website does not indicate that their pricing is per person, it wasn’t until I called and spoke to the hotel that I found out.)

Luckily, luxurylink has an awesome package for them:

  • 7 nights accommodation in Junior Suite Ocean Front
  • Complimentary upgrade to Suite Marquis with private pool, if available upon check-in
  • Round-trip VIP transfers for two between the airport and Marquis Los Cabos
  • Marquis Los Cabos signature welcome drink
  • Marquis breakfast for two each morning
  • Complimentary use of the specially equipped Fitness Center
  • Taxes and service charges

The price: an amazing minimum bid price of $2065

A little about Los Cabos’ weather:

Some say that San Jose del Cabo has the perfect weather - and that’s true. Most of the year, you will have sunny skies and cool breezy nights. Much like the summer weather that we are all used to. It does get warmer, and more humid in the summer months, leading up to September which is hurricane season. The heat and humidity are high, and the risk of tropical storms means that you will get many cloudy, and even rainy days in September. The weather breaks mid October and then it’s back to beautiful weather once again.

An indepth perusal of tripadvisor.com reviews sniffed out a few red flags namely snotty service; expensive meals and NO SWIMMING IN THE OCEAN. WHAT?!? So I called the hotel myself and confirmed that the beaches on the Pacific side of Mexico are indeed “unswimmable”. Apparently signs are posted all over warning visitors not to try. Bummer, no water sports? BUMMER.

Honeymoon - Part I :  wedding new york Honeymoon4 honeymoon4.jpg

The Palms, Turks and Caicos

Absolutely breathtakingly gorgeous white sand beaches and crystal clear water and a very chic and luxurious hotel. Their 7-night honeymoon package includes:

  • Room Accommodations for 7 nights
  • Luxury Oceanview
  • Deluxe Welcome Amenity
  • Continental Breakfast Daily
  • Roundtrip Airport Transfers
  • Champagne Upon Arrival
  • Two Dinners for 2 in Parallel23
  • One Couples Massage
  • Room Tax and Service Charge
  • Spa Gratuities

The price: $3325

A little about Turks and Caicos’s weather:

Even in the winter, the temperatures on the island remain quite warm at about 80 or 85°F (27-29°C), with the water being only slightly cooler at 75°F (24°C). However, thanks to the moderating influence of the Caribbean Sea and constantly circulating trade winds, the temperature rarely goes above the mid-90s Fahrenehit (35°C) even in the late summer, when the water is just over 80°F (27°C). The islands get a moderate rainfall of about 40 inches (100cm) per year, which means plenty of sunshine. However, the months of June through October constitute hurricane season, which can get quite severe in this area due to a lack of surrounding land to slow down the winds. Therefore, it is probably best to visit outside of these months; some tropical storms may still develop between November and May, but these are much milder and more infrequent.

An indepth persual of tripadvisor.com reviews reveals even more gorgeous candid photos from visitors and the boast of locals that TC has not been hit by a hurricane in over 20 YEARS. The reviews also talks of bidding wars over the cushy “sun pods” that line the inifinity pool and raves about the continental breakfast which includes pancakes and omelets. AWESOME.

Honeymoon - Part I :  wedding new york Honeymoon5 honeymoon5.jpg Honeymoon - Part I :  wedding new york Honeymoon6 honeymoon6.jpg

Laluna, Grenada

Beautiful four poster Balinese beds set in Indonesian and Italian inspired open air rooms and thatched roof private pool side living rooms makes this place an absolute luxury retreat. Their 7-night honeymoon package includes:

  • Accommodation for two in a deluxe cottage with private plunge pool
  • Daily american breakfast for two
  • Daily dinner for two (excluding drinks)
  • Complimentary bottle of champagne on arrival
  • Unique 4-hour guided island tour
  • Laluna gift

The price: $4,343

A little about Grenada’s weather:

Average temperatures range from 75ºF to 85ºF (24ºC to 30ºC), tempered by the steady and cooling trade winds. The lowest temperatures occur between November and February. Due to Grenada’s remarkable topography, the island also experiences climate changes according to altitude. The driest season is between January and May. Even during the rainy season, from June to December, it rarely rains for more than an hour at a time and generally not every day.

Another great deal from luxurylink.com:

  • 7 nights in a Deluxe Cottage or Cottage Suite with verandah & private plunge pool
  • Bottle of champagne upon arrival
  • Full American breakfast for two each day
  • Dinner for two each evening, excluding beverages
  • Guided 4-hour island tour for two on one day of your stay
  • Access to the beautiful pool area, located directly on Laluna’s secluded, white sand beach featuring a covered open-air pavilion with seating areas and a bar, and complimentary beach towels.
  • Complimentary use of Hobie Cats, kayaks, snorkeling equipment, and mountain bikes
  • Laluna giftac
  • Government taxes and service charge

The price: $2,773

An indepth review of tripadvisor.com reviews paints the picture of romantic seclusion in an old world style. Red flags include MOSQUITOS, lackluster pool, unimpressive beach and boredom.

So which did we choose? Ahh… stay tuned my pets… haha

About Mrs. Bee

Blogger’s Block

July 27th, 2006 @ 10:38 am by Mrs. Bee

Mr. Bee and I are still in LA at my parents’ un-airconditioned house (their ac is broken and every air conditioner/fan in southern california is sold out due to an insane heat wave). I was experiencing extreme blogger’s block yesterday because I’m away from my usual desk, and I’m finding it hard to get into extreme blogging mode (plus it’s hot, hot, hot). So I went to Barnes & Noble yesterday and picked up some travel magazines for inspiration, because I thought we’d increase our coverage of honeymoon and destination wedding locales.

When my brother came over for dinner later that evening, he perused through one of my magazines and saw a bridge in Firenze, Italy he and his wife visited last year. That’s when we began tossing around the idea of brotherbee - weddingbee’s special honeymoon correspondent.

My brother and his wife love to travel - some of you may remember his three part series on Bora Bora. Together they’ve been to Korea, Canada, Italy, France, UK, Thailand, Guam and more in the past two years. Brotherbee loves to frequent travel sites like tripadvisor where he reviews places he’s been, so he was excited about the idea of being a travel correspondent for weddingbee. Honeymoon arrangements are also one detail we often leave up to the hubbies, so I thought it might be interesting to have a male perspective. Mr. Bee even showed him his overall-clad character, and my brother requested a cool bee character - one with sunglasses. :)

Why did they travel so much? My brother’s wife is Korean, and was denied a tourist visa to the United States when they were dating. So the pair travelled to some of the world’s most romantic destinations just to be able to see each other. Of course now they’re happily married and living in Southern California, but they still love to travel. Most recently they took a trip up the central coast of California and to the Grand Canyon.

What do you think about beefing up our honeymoon coverage? What destinations are you most interested in?

Minimoon: Puerto Rico Part 4

July 25th, 2006 @ 12:22 pm by Mrs. Ladybug

July 15th / Sat

Lay out on the beach day! I’m so excited! It looked like this when we woke up.

Minimoon: Puerto Rico Part 4 : wedding new york S45724630 137_3757

We got out there around 12:30ish after having lunch. So here we are, laying out.

Minimoon: Puerto Rico Part 4 : wedding new york S45724663 137_3761

Do you see the sun? That’s funny! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Neither do I! So sad. The sun came out for 15 minutes then said “Peace Out Biotch!”

Minimoon: Puerto Rico Part 4 : wedding new york S45724724 137_3763

We layed out in the clouds till 4 then headed up to our dinky 12×12 hotel swimming pool on the roof.

Minimoon: Puerto Rico Part 4 : wedding new york S45724930 137_3777

Ok so eventually we gave up on the sun and I don’t want to hear any shit about what I’m about to tell you. It’s ugly but it’s part of their culture, and I wanted to experience it while we were down there. We went to a cock fight and can I just say that I have never seen grown men get so excited over 2 chickens! I really thought some of the older guys were going to keel over and have a stroke the way they were yelling. Yes it was sad. I had to look away when I saw the blood. They were serving tacos and I really wanted one but then I saw that it was chicken tacos and I’m thinking uh yeah. No spank you.

Leavin’ On a Jet Plane…

July 25th, 2006 @ 10:05 am by Mrs. Daisy

…don’t know when I’ll be back again. That’s because I don’t know a) when the f I’m going; and, moreover, b) where the f I’m going.

Ah, the joy of honeymoon, or to bite Mrs. Ladybug’s terminology, minimoon planning. Gotta love it. See, the thing is Mr. Daisy and I do plan to have a “proper” honeymoon come springtime. We’ll be off to Italy for two weeks to do so. But we also recognize that, post-wedding, we both I will really, really need to decompress.* So we’re doing a week in a warm, beachy place. The actual location of said place is TBD. Our only limitations were that it be a decently short flight and not require more than 30 minutes on a boat. (someone I am petrified of boats.)

That left us with the Caribbean and Mexico as options. After creating the following spreadsheet (with formulas and everything), we’ve narrowed it down to the following options, yet still cannot decide.

Leavin' On a Jet Plane... : wedding new york 116 116.jpg

Carlisle Bay, Antigua
Leavin' On a Jet Plane... : wedding new york 211 211.jpg
Ocean Suite

Leavin' On a Jet Plane... : wedding new york 312 312.jpg
the beach

Pros: Seclusion; romance; lovely rooms open onto beach; really cool touches, like a screening room, private dinners on the end of a jetty, etc.; full breakfast + afternoon tea included
Cons: Pain in the ass to get there– BWIA flies there but twice a week and guarantees you lose two whole days to travel, whereas connecting flights have better timing, the time between connections cuts it thisclose. (I haven’t flown a connecting flight in recent memory and have these scary thoughts of a) missing it and b) arriving sans luggage); seems pretty “kid friendly”.

Caneel Bay, St. John
Leavin' On a Jet Plane... : wedding new york 411 411.jpg
pretty beach

Leavin' On a Jet Plane... : wedding new york 511 511.jpg
rooms

Pros: Secluded, beautiful beaches, activities (i.e. kayaking, an activity on which Mr. Daisy is fixated, for no apparent reason), beachfront rooms
Cons: Perhaps a bit “rustic” room decor (this girl likes the luxury touches), i.e. standing shower stall, no telephones in rooms; no meals included; with 166 units, larger size resort than others we’re considering;

Cap Juluca, Anguilla
Leavin' On a Jet Plane... : wedding new york 77 77.jpg
jr. suite bathroom w/double tub

Leavin' On a Jet Plane... : wedding new york 87 87.jpg
aerial view of the resort/beach

Pros: Secluded; gorgeous beaches; nearby restaurants in addition to onsite hotel restaurants; continental breakfast included and delivered to room
Cons: Some comments on tripadvisor.com scare the bejesus out of me– esp. those that refer to ants in the room and bugs everywhere. I don’t know if I ought to believe these reviews though. Our neighbors went here for their honeymoon and have nothing negative to say.

Ikal del Mar, Mexico
Leavin' On a Jet Plane... : wedding new york 97 97.jpg
our villa, private pool and queen size chaise

Leavin' On a Jet Plane... : wedding new york 104 104.jpg
the beach

Pros: Secluded; only 29 villas; no kids; private plunge pool; luxurious amenities; continental breakfast delivered to villa + full Æ’ la carte breakfast included
Cons: We’ve already been there; no water activities on-site; one restaurant for dinner is pricey and has a limited menu (however, Playa del Carmen is a 10 minute/$8 cab ride away and has great restaurants)

Combo: Ikal del Mar + Maroma or Ritz
Leavin' On a Jet Plane... : wedding new york 117 117.jpg
Maroma Room

Leavin' On a Jet Plane... : wedding new york 123 123.jpg
Maroma Beach

Leavin' On a Jet Plane... : wedding new york 133 133.jpg
Ritz Room

Leavin' On a Jet Plane... : wedding new york 142 142.jpg
Ritz Beach

Pros: Getting to go to a new place; seeing a resort with more going on; knowing we will end up at a place we love
Cons: Packing our stuff mid-trip

Maroma includes daily breakfast and is known to have one of the best beaches in the world. The Ritz is, well, the Ritz. But it’s kind of pig and in Cancun proper… romantic? hmmm…

So what do we do? The tried and true that may feel too much like been there done that? Someplace new? Has anyone been to any of these locales or any other romantic getaway that blew you away? What’s so weird is that I am decisive in almost *every* aspect of my life (such that, in certain lights, it almost appears as stubbornish/obnoxiousness), but with wedding planning, paradoxically, I’m afraid to commit. What’s a girl to do?”

~~~
* if we’re deciding honeymoon deservedness on wedding planning stress then, the truth is, my mom and I would be going on this vacation together, since we both seem to be the epicenter of wedding related drama and decisions.
We got dressed after resting for a few hours and then headed back to Old San Juan for some dinner.
Date Night Trois
July was Mr. Ladybug’s turn to plan a date night which he chose to do in Puerto Rico. We had dinner at Dragonfly. Latin-Asian Fusion. Not bad.
We noticed at a couple of tables nearby where the waiters were showing customers how to use chopsticks. Mr. Ladybug grabbed our waiter, Manny, who was walking by and said “Hey Manny! How come you’re not showing us how to use chopsticks?” Haha you corny!
There’s a statue on the left of the stairs of a father, I’m guessing, and he’s reaching out in front of him. On the right side of the steps there’s another statue of a man holding a baby towards the father. Does anyone know the story? I’m very curious!
I love this last photo. Like we’re having a romantic moment but WE’RE NOT. I set the camera to timer and then I ran back to him and said “Stop looking at the camera! Just look at me.” Pretend you love me dammit! You see how he’s looking at me lovingly? You know what he said to me a second before the camera went off? He said “You’re gay.” *CLICK*
July 13th / Thu
El Yunque - Rainforest
We decided to rent a car to go around on our own. So we woke up, got a car, and then drove about 45 minutes to check out El Yunque.
Don’t make fun of the ponchos. They were 4 bucks each. Since we were in the rainforest it rained like every 10 minutes. We looked hot Asian tourists in blue trash bags. Don’t hate.
Bioluminescent Tour
Minimoon Puerto Rico: Part 2 :  wedding new york T45717846 136_3679
Next we drove to Fjardo to check out the Bioluminescent tour. There’s only 5 of these in the world. I think there’s 3 in PR, 1 in the Bahamas, and I missed it when the tour guide was telling us where the 5th one was.
When we were in PR the sun would set around 7ish and by 8 it’s dark out. This tour is better if it’s pitch dark out so we took the 7pm tour. You basically kayak with a tour group into the mangroves which leads to a lagoon. It’s a 45 minute trip and remember to spray OFF on your entire body. The mosquitos attacked Mr. Ladybug where he forgot to spray which was his neck and shoulder area. 15 bites! Fuckin hate mosquitos.
By the time you hit the lagoon it’s dark out. When you jump in the water, everywhere you kick or splash the water glows. It’s like an eerie white glow that you can see in the dark. I tried taking a photo of it but the guide said that you need a special camera. It kinda looks like this only the outline around you looks more white than green. This is the only time we argued. We realized that we are not canoers and we will never go into a boat unless someone is rowing for us.
Minimoon: Puerto Rico Part 1
July 23rd, 2006 @ 6:54 pm by Mrs. Ladybug
Puerto Rico was beautiful. It was humid, we had some scattered showers, but overall it was beautiful. I especially loved Old San Juan.
We stayed at The Water Club which was located right on the beach in San Juan. The people there were so kind and just very warm.
July 12th / Wed
Bought a snack before we got on the plane. I love sour candy. I’m a sucka for it.
Minimoon: Puerto Rico Part 1 :  wedding new york S45702405 135_3581
We’re here! Puerto Rico! HO!!!!!!
Minimoon: Puerto Rico Part 1 :  wedding new york S45726753 135_3588
Ok let me tell you about The Water Club. We arrived in PR at 1. Check in time was supposed to be at 3, so we left our suitcases at the front desk and walked around outside to kill some time. We got back at 3 and our room wasn’t ready. They told us to come back in 45 minutes so we went up to the roof bar to kill some more time. We came back down after 45 minutes and our room STILL wasn’t ready. They offered us free drinks if we went up to bar again and told us that they would come and get us. Mr. Ladybug was getting pissed.
So we go back up and after another 45 minutes, someone comes and gets us. They take us to our room and it’s NOT the Ocean View room that we had paid for. It’s a partial view. So they apologize and take us up 3 levels and give us yet another partial view. Are you fucking kidding me?! Now I’m pissed! Mr. Ladybug took the time out to plan this whole trip for me and paid extra for an ocean view, and I felt that they were jerking him around. It’s one thing if I take advantage of him (cause he’s my man) but it’s another thing when someone else is doing it. By now I’m livid!
We go downstairs to talk to Fernando at the front desk. He tells us that if we go directly to their website that they offer 4 different views but that if we went through Orbitz or anywhere else to book a stay that they only offer 2 choices. And even though we selected “Ocean View” it’s really a partial view and that we’re getting what we paid for. Mr. Ladybug fucking went off because by now it’s 5 o’ clock people. We got there 4 hours ago and we haven’t done shit.
So then we ask to speak to the manager, Bob. To sum this up really quickly, Bob offers to comp our dinner that night at Tangerine. Whoop-dee-doo. Usually we’re all for boutique hotels but this one stunk. I think the hotel is great for the young and single, but for couples I don’t think it’s that great. I thought the hotel setup was really nice. Very modern. It was rated the top 5 Carribean hotels to stay at in 2003 by Conde Nast Traveler, but then again things must have been different 3 years ago. Mr. Ladybug thinks we should have stayed at the El San Juan instead. C’est la vie. Oh and don’t eat at Tangerine. It sucked ass. Thank God we didn’t pay for it.
Can I just say that I was obsessed with this statue.
Minimoon: Puerto Rico Part 1 :  wedding new york S45710639 136_3608
I kept staring at it and standing on the seat to get a better look. It looked so tortured. It was beautiful. I actually wanted to steal it but I think they would know that something was up if they saw a 5′1 Asian girl during checkout time carrying a very big marble statue that looked similar to the one that went missing 4 days ago on their roof. Shit. I DESERVE IT! You fucked us over on the ocean view room you bastage! I was a lady. I contained my klepto urges.
Malia Mills
July 22nd, 2006 @ 9:23 am by Mrs. Firefly
I think I gave myself a bit too much credit in my post below and didn’t give enough credit to bathing suite designer Malia Mills.
Malia Mills started in 1993 and sells tops engineered to fit specific bra sizes, and cut bottoms to fit specific shapes in sizes 30A to 38DD and 2 to 16. (they also sell one-pieces and tankinis). I don’t know what it is, but the bathing suits just hit in the right places (both the red and purple suits I wore are from Malia Mills). The bathing suits are a bit pricey — around $100 per top or bottom — but I think they’re worth it. I also LOVE the fact that they use real women for models …
They also have a bridal line and can spell out custom phrases on your booty in crystals… cute, but not quite worth $260 for custom ones, especially if you’re not going to wear it after your honeymoon (not quite sure if the stock phrases like “just married” cost less).
Could you please give me suggestions for a domestic honeymoon other than Hawaii in mid-October?
Decisions, Decisions
July 18th, 2006 @ 12:16 pm by Mrs. Daisy
Here I am, obsessing over my day-after-the-wedding brunch, as I am wont to do. Barring a brunch at IHOP, where I’d obviously vote for the Rooty Tooty Fresh and Fruity (or maybe the Funny Face), I’m sort of lost.
untitled1.jpguntitled2.jpg
I am having a menu dilemma* since I have decided that with an omelette station, the assigned buffet item of “scrambled eggs” is a bit redundant, because what else is an omelette, if not a variation on scrambled eggs.
Here is the menu as it stands:
Freshly Squeezed Orange and Grapefruit Juice
Seasonal Fresh Fruit with Mixed Berries
***
Herbed Scrambled Eggs
New York Style French Toast
Home Fried Potatoes
Applewood Smoked Bacon and Country Sausage
***
Omelette Station
****
Smoked Salmon Platter
Sliced Onions, Sliced Tomatoes and Capers
***
Baker’s Basket of Bagels, Muffins, Danish and Croissants
Assorted Breads
Toaster
****
Warm Vermont Maple Syrup and Butter
Preserves, Honey and Cream Cheese
****
Starbucks Coffee, Decaffeinated Coffee and Tazo Chai Tea
So now these are the choices to swap in lieu of the scrambleds:
  • Quiche
  • Frittata
  • Fruit Blintzes
  • Waffles
  • Pancakes
Which do I pick? Are pancakes and waffles too evocative of the french toast already in the buffet? And is a frittata similar to the scrambled eggs i’m trying to lose?
If you could design your dream buffet, what would it include?
~~~
* As you may or may not have come to realize, when it comes to the wedding, I view everything in disproportionate terms. It’s endearing, I think.

Shopgive

July 17th, 2006 @ 4:05 pm by Mrs. Bee

Shopgive is another great vendor I met at the BFF Bridal event. Their gorgeous weekender bags and vanity cases immediately caught my eye.

The large weekender bag below is made of stain-resistant fabric with Italian leather trim, and 14k gold plated studs. The side pockets provide easy access for your cell phone and boarding pass when you’re running through the airport. I’d find an excuse to take a trip with a bag this beautiful!

Shopgive :  wedding Weekender weekender.JPG

They had a much larger selection at the event than what’s available online, so you might want to check out Bergdorf Goodman which carries the line. The entire collection is so luxe, elegant, and classic.

10% of net profits also go to charity.

Not-So Disposable Pictures

July 13th, 2006 @ 12:25 pm by Mrs. Firefly

These days most wedding guests bring digital cameras and are kind enough to email you their pictures (some require more nudging than others). I didn’t think that disposable table cameras were necessary. From my experience, you usually wind up with half finished cameras with tons of poorly lit, non-zoomed photos of the bride and groom cutting the cake and some random pictures of guests with their eyes closed from across the table.

My mother, who isn’t very tech savvy and didn’t think she’d get to see any of the digital pictures, insisted on table cameras. Well…. I was right, mostly. We’ve developed 10 out of 12 cameras so far and 8 or 9 of them are full of junk. It didn’t help that Michael’s 5 year-old nephew decided to finish 2 of the rolls on his own (lots of waist high pictures).

One of the rolls, however, is a true gem. We put black and white cameras on two of the “young people” tables. These are some pictures from one of the them. I’m not sure who the photographer is, but when I find out, I’ll owe him or her a huge thanks! Best of all, I danced with my uncle after the photographer left (she left at 11:30; the wedding ended at midnight), so these are probably the best pictures of us from the whole night!

The pictures are a bit dark in real life, but not quite as dark as they appear here.

All-in-all, I think the approx $200 we spent on the cameras and developing is probably worth it just for these pictures!

Minimoon

July 11th, 2006 @ 9:26 pm by Mrs. Ladybug

Ok I’m back from my waxing. Oh my mother-of-my-old-dog-gatsby it hurt like a mofo! I know I’m scaring you waxing virginites out there, but trust me, it’s worth it. If you get it and your husband tries to tap dat ass I expect a bajillion comments thanking me and calling me Lord Susan da Great. I heard that a lot of girls get waxed but request shapes. Like a heart or something. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Crajees.

Wouldn’t it be funny if your whole wedding was based on your monogram, and then on your wedding night you take off your clothes and you have your monogram waxed down there? Hahahahaha… Omigod. I bet half of you are thinking “THAT’S A GREAT IDEA!” I was just kidding psychos! Don’t go overboard.

Ok tomorrow I am off on my minimoon. Our flight takes off at 8 something in the morning. My co-workers have asked me “Where are you going in Puerto Rico?” To which I reply “I don’t know.” Haha. Mr. Ladybug’s really good about making trip itineraries. I think he actually gets a kick out of doing it. It’s also his turn for our monthly ‘Date Night’ and he’s already picked out a place in Puerto Rico to do it. Aww shucks, I’m a lucky gal. All I know is that we leave from JFK and that we return on Sunday. IcannotwaitIcannotwaitIcannotwait…

Ok so let me finish packing and eat some grub and I’ll post up some more wedding photos before I say adios. I’ll be back in a few hours.

“Puerto Rico I coming! Wait for me pour favour!”
