From nymetro’s Best Bets:
My longstanding joke with a certain boy is that I want a plastic engagement ring. Last week, in Williamsburg, my dream came true-at least the plastic part did. This accessory from artist Alissia Melka-Teichroew isn’t perfect, especially since it can’t be adjusted for big or small fingers. Still, the bold, elegant spoof on a certain Tiffany item more than makes up for the fit. I strung three of these plastic delights through a silver chain to make a necklace. It’s a great way to wear them if you have small hands-or hands being saved for the real, platinum thing.

I think a plastic ring is cute… that is of course only if a real one is soon to follow. ![]()

Thomas Knoell creates beautiful hand-crafted antique style hair jewelry. Although tiaras are his most popular pieces, I particularly like his brooches and combs. You can see his work in the pages of the most popular wedding magazines like Modern Bride and Martha Stewart Weddings pictured below.

His flagshop store is located in Manhasset, but his pieces are also available at Kleinfeld. He’s having a trunk show at Kleinfeld this Saturday if you want to check out his latest work.
Today’s SheFinds newsletter had some great links to stores that offer pretty and affordable customized jewelry.

I discovered Twist Online when I opened my Daily Candy Weekly Deals today. Twist carries a huge variety of super cute jewelry ranging from cheapchic to high fashion.
Some cute stuff from their CheapChic line. The heart necklace (top middle) is featured as a Daily Candy Deal on sale from $110 to $83.
They also carry Cathy Waterman’s line (famous for her wedding bands) which I absolutely adore.

This is one of my favorite sites of the week!
Me & Ro is a popular jewelry line that incorporates Sanskrit, Tibetan, Tamil and other ancient symbols into their designs. They have a huge celebrity following - Julia Roberts is a big fan (Me & Ro earrings featured on cover below).
Mariska Hargitay always wears their fearlessness necklace - created specifically for her Joyful Heart Foundation which is dedicated to assisting the recovery of sexual assault victims.
Me & Ro has pretty baubles but some of them can get a bit pricey - these are some of their more affordable pieces.

Their 10K Gold World Trade Center Pendant is $215 each, but proceeds go to the Robin Hood Relief Fund.

The back of the pendant says Hope + Courage 9-11-01. With the United 93 movie out and my impending move (I live right by the WTC right now), I’ve been thinking about 9/11. Can’t believe it’s already the 5 year anniversary this year.

Viv & Ingrid have organized their jewelry according to color scheme so it’s easy to select a gift for your bridesmaids. These are pieces in their cloud blue collection:
Their monogrammed silk pouches ($20) pictured above are the perfect way to present your jewelry gifts.
Viv & Ingrid’s 14K Monogram Cursive Necklace ($110) would also make a nice bridesmaid gift and comes packaged in their signature packaging and monogrammed box for a nice presentation.
Lots of cute and affordable jewelry on their site.
I came across Satya Jewelry in this month’s In Style magazine and I had to feature them because they have super cute jewelry and they’re based in New York!
Their line of yoga-inspired jewelry is a favorite among Hollywood celebs. But prices are also very reasonable - wonderful for bridesmaids gifts. (Their Sun and Moon necklace is often worn/given as a friendship necklace.)
Satya Jewelry was voted as “Best Everyday Jewelry” in New York Magazine’s recent Best of New York issue. Plus a portion of all proceeds goes towards domestic and international childrens programs. Gotta love a business with a cause!

We’ve talked about how much the size of your engagement ring matters on weddingbee before. It can be a touchy subject. Here Comes the Blog’s recent post about whether or not size matters
got me thinking about the topic again so let’s do our first ever ring survey!
You know why this woman looks so happy? It’s because she’s wearing jewelry from Satellite Paris.

Satellite is my favorite shop in NYC. It’s gorgeous; the pieces are gorgeous; the staff is nice; and best of all? It’s unexpectedly reasonably priced. They have a beautiful bridal collection — tiaras with pearls and whatnot! — but their everyday things are what I like best. When I had four bridesmaids, I was going to give each of them a piece of jewelry from Satellite. Now that I have one bridesmaid, I’m going to give her four pieces of jewelry from Satellite.

Earrings start at around $50; rings are a little less.

Clearly, I am obsessed with headpieces. Obsessed. Clearly. Why? I don’t know. I’m not even wearing one for my wedding (see previous post about complicated face for reasoning), yet I persist in looking at them.
I’m not sure how I stumbled upon these from Privilege. But the minute I saw them, I had to share them. They are absolutely the most over the top things I have ever seen. The weirdly translated page doesn’t offer a lot of information about them, but they seem to come from Gay Paree! Which automatically makes them classy. Or classy in the way the Venetian is classy in Las Vegas because all you have to compare it to is the Golden Nugget. That gold vaguely Greek one is my favorite. Maybe I’ll just buy it and wear it around the house. Mr. Caterpillar has seen weirder things.

Niklas Soderblom, Nicollette Sheridan’s ex-fiance, is selling the 1.76 carat Tiffany engagement ring he purchased for her on ebay!
The starting bid is $20,000. You can see on the included estimate that the ring was valued at $19,470.
Hmmm… would you want someone else’s engagement ring even if they were a celebrity? The engagement fell through so wouldn’t it be bad luck?

The Right Hand Ring has been marketed to professional women with disposable incomes as symbols of independence and power. The designs are purposefully different from traditional engagement rings using smaller stones instead of one large single stone.
The ad campaigns suggest that women no longer have to wait for a significant other to buy them a diamond ring - whether they are married, single, or divorced they can buy one themselves.
I admit it - I’m a big fat sappy sucker for those DeBeers commercials. You know the one where the husband and wife are in a crowded piazza in Italy. The wife sees her parents in the crowd and then her husband gives her an anniversary ring. The voiceover says “Tell her, ‘I forever do.‘”
Yes I want an anniversary ring and if I weren’t already married, sure I’d buy myself a right hand ring too. Those folks at DeBeers - marketing geniuses I tell ya. They create markets for diamonds we didn’t even know we “needed.”

The newest trend in rings? Stackable wedding bands! Tiffany’s has introduced a line of 25 stackable rings.

My wedding band is almost identical to the one on top (except that it’s not from Tiffany’s
). When we went to go buy my band, I tried it on with another one that was slightly different in style. I loved how they looked together! The jeweler cleverly suggested that a second ring is usually purchased as an anniversary present.
I also tried on two rings similar to the ones below. I loved the trellis ring on the left because it was pretty, feminine, and unique. I loved the etoile ring with micropave diamonds on the right because it was soooo sparkly. But I’ve heard that micropave diamonds fall out easily.

I love them all. Because when it comes to diamonds… isn’t more always better? ![]()
