E-ring Photography

First of all, I’d like to disclaimer that I’m not a photographer, nor do I play one on TV. I’m just your average girl with an average digital camera. I did spend about an hour the other night taking pictures of my ring and have figured out a few techinques that seem to work better than some others, which I’ll share here.
Here’s my camera:
It’s the Canon PowerShot A400 3.2 megapixel, with a 2.2x optical zoom. The only difference is, mine has a purply blue face instead of silver. I could go into a lot of detail on our camera selection process, but I’ll just sum it up by saying “it was cheap ($130-ish) and Mr. Blueberry chose it.”
Torture

I’m off from work today (as I am for half of every week), which is usually awesome.
Today, however, is a whole nother story. In the above-pictured box is my wedding band. I cannot open said box until Mr. Daisy gets home from work.
Self-deprivation was never a strong suit of mine (see: my weight gain, my drunken college years, my closet full of shoes, ad infinitum) so not opening this package is actually causing me physical pain. Woe is me!

No, no. Not what happened in history in 1928 (well, if you insist…Vitamin C was invented in 1928).
1928 Jewelry makes modern replicas of antique jewelry at affordable prices. I still haven’t decided on my day of wedding jewelry, but here are some *pretty* things I found on the site. They have jewelry with either crystals or pearls, so it’s very easy to match with your other jewelry. Also, a great place to find those BM gifts!

Pearl Mania

My MOH is the bestest friend in the whole wide world! Not only is she lending me her headpiece from her own wedding, she is lending me her pearl necklace as well! So of course, I had to go out and buy (fake) pearl earrings to match. I just can’t choose which earrings to wear!

Bah. I’m getting tired of not having the right wedding ring (yes, the wedding is still 7 months away). I want to find the perfect one, dammit!
Mr. Blueberry says that when we go down to St. Louis this Thursday we can look around at Neustadter’s (the store my e-ring came from) again. And we’ll be bringing the camera this time :).

In honor of it being our 1 year, 1 month engagement anniversary, as well as just a couple weeks shy of my 1 year anniversary of having my ring, here are some pics of the bling, taken last night:

Big Diamonds

After Miss Orchid’s great post today about a newly-discovered diamond that weighs in at 603 carats, I just had to do some more research about the world’s other humongous diamonds. I’m sure we’ve all heard of the Hope diamond, and I actually thought it was the world’s biggest. But guess what? It’s not–not by a long shot!
According to this site, the world’s largest diamond is actually the Cullinan I, or “Star of Africa”, with a cut weight of over 530 carats! It was cut from a stone weighing over 3,100 carats, originally.

Pretty, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit underwhelmed. Maybe I was picturing huge diamonds being, well, giant versions of the more normal-sized diamonds we have in our engagement rings.

There is a rare, giant 603 karat white diamond that sold for $12 million at auction. Known as the ‘Lesotho Promise’ diamond, the estimated price of the diamond when cut is approximately over $20 million. Holy Bling Batman! I can’t even begin to imagine where you would wear that. The only image that comes to mind is from Ducktales where that really rich woman (duck) wore a huge diamond pendant and wheeled it around in a wheelbarrow. Hah! 
My engagement ring is by no means a big big bling. But I love it nonetheless. This is not an actual picture of my ring, but it’s exactly the same setting.

My Wedding Band

I must have tried on a dozen different wedding bands in my search for the perfect one. In a previous blog, I wrote about the Tiffany’s wedding bands.
We are still going with the 6mm platinum band for Mr. Butterfly. I absolutely adore this band on him and I think it looks fantastic.
For me, we were struggling with a decision on whether to try and replicate the one that I loved from Fortunoff, or just buy it directly from them. With gift certificates and a 10% discount for registering, the ring that I want now is pretty affordable. Also, we are having the ring shipped to the Best Man in Virginia, so we don’t have to pay taxes on it. Woohoooo~!! No taxes!! 
Here is a (not very good) picture of the ring. Seriously, this picture doesn’t do it justice, but it’s the only one I have. They only have 2 left in the entire company. I’m so excited because it’s really unique!

Do you think your man might forget your anniversary in coming years? Perhaps he should opt for this Remember Ring wedding band instead of that featureless platinum band he has been eyeing.
