November 21st, 2008 @ 6:18 pm by Miss Dumpling

I’ll save the friendly banter for another post and just dive right in. Here is a simple step-by-step guide to help you with your Gocco. Dumpling is not that great at this whole thing, but the end result was pretty fantastic. If you aren’t a Gocco bride (or groom!), skip the rest of this post and just look at our reception cards!

I am obsessed with NPR, the Food Network, paper, dance shows, Anthropologie, post-structuralist theory, Weddingbee!, "The Office," and celebrity gossip. When not procrastinating from my dissertation, I spend time catering to Jellyby, our overly anxious shih tzu, and getting to know Mr. Hot Cocoa. We have only been dating for fifteen years, so it's like I'm in love with a stranger! From the East Coast, we are planning a Jewish-Chinese Extravaganza in L.A., where we both grew up.

Maid to Perfection - Part I

November 21st, 2008 @ 5:50 pm by Miss Hot Cocoa

There are six lovely ladies in my bridal party: my sister, my FSIL, and four of my friends from graduate school and law school. Let me just say that Team Hot Cocoa is pretty hot. And if I were a jealous bride, I’d outfit them in these masterpieces from the Hong Kong wedding mall:

The gold number on the left is spectacular. I mean, nothing gives off mixed signals like an extra panel of frilliness in the crotch area. It’s like Scarlett O’Hara meets Eve in her fig-leaf days. And the silver lamé gown would be perfect for a jaunt down the yellow brick road with the Tin Man.

I’m Overreacting About Shoes

November 21st, 2008 @ 5:21 pm by Miss Sushi

I’m having a shoe dilemma,, which is actually kinda funny since it only took me 5 minutes to find a wedding dress I liked, but it’s been taking me MONTHS to find one pair of shoes. I wanted a pair of fun, funky, red shoes. Preferably peep toe. Here were some shoes that inspired me:

Wedding Band Decisions…

November 21st, 2008 @ 4:39 pm by Miss Lemonade

My mother has impeccable taste. Ever since I was a little girl I have adored her chic style and absorbed her lessons on fashion. We believe in quality, well made goods that will last a lifetime. We tend to shy away from anything with logos but have a deep appreciation for iconic pieces and craftsmen. Anyhow, many many moons ago my mother and I were having her watch cleaned (a classic Tank with navy lizard strap, a fabulous gift from my father). To entertain myself I floated around the store peering into each glass case, falling in love with almost every piece. I remember that as I looked over the rings and wedding bands, my mother joined me and we dreamt together that one day when (if) I got married this would be the only acceptable ring for such an occasion (sans diamonds…she probably thinks the diamonds are gaudy… I love them):

It’s the Cartier Trinity rolling ring with a few little diamonds. I love it, always have. As you know I have a propensity towards unique and different jewelry. Herein lies the dilemma.

Parents Books in a Hurry

November 21st, 2008 @ 4:11 pm by Mrs. Penguin

I’m the ultimate procrastinator. I wouldn’t say time is running out quite yet to make parents albums for Christmas, but before you know it, it’ll be December 25th and that album you promised to design and make for your parents or grandparents is nonexistent. For me, the dilemma was different: I really wanted to make a Blurb or Mpix album, but I swore if I had to stare at a computer screen any more than the 12 hours a day I already do so, I was going to go insane.

After seeing Mrs. Cherry Pie assemble her b-pics album with a Kolo and photo corners, I thought about doing the same for my parents albums. After considering photo cornering and gluing the pictures into the albums, Mrs. Lemon turned me on to the Kolo “Riva” album.

Where the Wild Things Are

November 21st, 2008 @ 3:17 pm by Miss Cheese

source

I’ve mentioned before that we don’t really have a formal budget for our wedding. Owing to the bazillion home improvement projects we’ve taken on (and have to complete before the wedding), we’re planning to spend as much (or as little) as we can afford as we go. Projects for our home will take precedent over wedding expenses. I know, I know, not the best budgeting strategy, but that’s our plan.

For giggles this morning, I plugged my guesstimates into a wedding budget spreadsheet (it’s this one).

My First Photo Shoot…

November 21st, 2008 @ 2:49 pm by Miss Snapdragon

… with our invitations. :)

I am pretty much completely obsessed with crafting. It’s my favorite thing to do. If I have a Friday night to myself, I get really excited to be able to craft in peace, without anyone to make fun of me. If I had room for a craft room in my apartment… oh, that would be AWESOME! I’m a nerd.

Anyway, invitations were one of the very first projects I fantasized about when this whole wedding-planning thing got started. Not the dress, not flowers… the invitations!

For weeks I have been playing around with colors, illustrations, watercolors… and now I think we’ve finally settled into a design. I attempted our first mock-up, and I am really excited about the results. Some of the paper choices will be different (cardstock vs. paper), but I think I am going to stick pretty closely to this look. Because blogs without pictures are boring… let me introduce to you a sneak peek of… Ms. Amelie Laureen!

Oh Happy Day: Side Session

November 21st, 2008 @ 2:05 pm by Mrs. Toucan

After all the toasting, Robert pulled us aside for quick mini side session. We had not had the opportunity to take pictures of just to the two of us, and after seeing these, I’m so glad we were able to squeeze it in!

The shot above is one of my favorites of the entire day—and who would have thought that it was taken in the bathroom hallway!
