I have a number of obsessions. One is stationery, paper products and an assortment of paper-related goods. So I developed a healthy obsession over invitations and more specifically, letterpress printing.
A few months into our engagement, we went to Invitations and Beyond in Oceanside, Long Island. The drill was to go in the store and browse through volumes after volumes of wedding invitations. They were all very nice invitations, but I never found THE ONE. A few months later, I went to Kate’s Paperie on Broadway. Went through the drill again only to find that the ones I love are all letterpress and are not feasible within my budget. Lastly, I visited Lion in the Sun (in Park Slope, Brooklyn; there is another store in Long Island). Same drill same result.
It was clear to me that I love letterpress. I love the feel of thick paper, the indentation that is created by the letterpress and the artsy feel to it all. But, the price tag did not like me, and vice versa. Lion in the Sun actually offered to flat print an originally letterpress invitation (see William Arthur invite below). But that wasn’t just right for me.
This beautiful silk dress is the chipao that my mother wore to her wedding reception many many years ago.

I considered wearing it to my own reception. But, unfortunately, the dress is a bit too snug. (It “fits”.. but I can’t move. Or breathe, really.)
So… I decided to incorporate the floral design in our ceremony programs!
Our friend KenzieKate is unveiling two gorgeous new invitation designs, and needs help naming them so let’s give her a hand!

The first one is my take on a beach wedding invite, the second used Mexican silver jewelry as an inspiration, but is pretty enough that it could work in so many other colors as well…. I like to name all my invites after cities. I usually choose cities that sort of embody the spirit of the invite in my mind.
The first time I ever saw wax seals was on Mrs. Bee’s personal blog back in 2004.
I absolutely fell in love with the idea, and the personal touch it gives invitations. I’m still undecided on whether I want to try it. Has anyone else tried to do them before?

Mrs. Bee, would you suggest another B2B investing the time and money on doing it?
After making about half of the menus for the engagement party, I decided to print out the STD bookmarks that I’ve been playing around with. I made three of them, with a different font for each. I was debating on sending out all three styles so everyone gets a different bookmark, but mom and I really like the first one. It looks more formal than the others.

I purchased cardstock from A.C. Moore for $0.20/page. The little flowers at the top and bottom of the bookmark are a dingbat font called “Vintage”.
Opinions/suggestions welcome!
Our engagement party is a week away! We’re having a buffet dinner and some delicious treats for dessert, so I decided to make menus to put on all of the tables listing what’s available for dinner.
Here’s a rough draft:

We’re so happy we numbered our little RSVP cards! We’ve received several cards from our guests with a check mark indicating whether or not they would be attending, but they did not identify themselves! Since we numbered them, all I had to do was flip the card over and see what number corresponded with our numbered guest list. Ta-da! Guest found.

Last night I attended the wedding reception of my good friends Joanne and Bobby, and this morning I woke up inspired and ready to get back into wedding planning/posting mode. I’ve been in a rather “blah” mood since booking the hall, photographer, and DJ because I’ve had nothing pressing to do.
Last night was just so much fun. It was wonderful to see my friends so happy and it was great to experience that with Mr. Sunflower, as well. Plus, yesterday I received pictures of the bouquet that I absolutely fell in love with at the Jericho Terrace Bridal Showcase, as well as the sample invitations I ordered from White Aisle.
First things first: the bouquet. This is exactly, exactly, exactly what I want, only lavender roses will be replacing the pink roses shown here. This beautiful creation was courtesy of Flowers By Brian. I told the representative several times that she needed to take it away from me before I left the hall with it.
Ed note: You may remember Jasmine (the author of this blog) from her honeymoon cruise posts and her RSVP Scrapbook cards that we’ve featured in the past.

After I got engaged, my friend Emily and I looked at invitations I liked and bounced ideas around. We weighed different options but in the end Paul and I trusted Emily, so we pretty much gave her free reign. We knew she would amaze us as she is so creative, and we knew she would put her heart into making us happy.
When I finally received the proof, I was floored. Emily had fulfilled my wishes and more. She blended everything I wanted and added some neat touches of her own to truly make our invitations personal, memorable, and unbelievably gorgeous! Everyone raved about how unique and personal they were, and how they had never seen an invitation quite like it. My boss’s wife said she was planning on saving it as a template to use for her own daughter’s wedding… her daughter just started kindergarten this September! Needless to say my invites were a huge hit and it was all due to Emily’s vision, creativity, hard work, and love.
