I want to go back and give you a little background about how I fell in love with this Southern stud!
First of all…look at that face:
(Cheese ball) Ow ow!!!
We actually met in Little Rock, Arkansas. I was in grad school and Mr. Squirrel was working as a graphic designer. As a Midwestern girl, Arkansas was a whole new world for me. I learned about rodeos, duck hunting, and the Hogs (Razorback football). It was great to have so many new experiences, but as a fast-paced, country-music hater, I just wasn’t connecting with the menfolk.
In comes my Southern stud! Mr. Squirrel honestly has all the best qualities of the South (and he smells good…bonus points!). His mom raised him to be a true gentleman. Two and a half years later, he still opens my car door. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. It’s to the point where I get mad at him if we are in a rush because he still does it. Mr. Squirrel is just a happy-go-lucky guy who loves being creative, jamming to good music, and riding his bike. After living in Arkansas for his entire life, Mr. Squirrel was itching to move away to a bigger city.
After dating for about eight months, I was finishing grad school and had a job offer in Tampa, Florida. My field is very small, and I didn’t have the luxury of targeting a city. My only option was to move to the job. Mr. Squirrel was looking to move anyway, so things should have worked out perfectly, right? Wrong. I freaked out. We had a few rough months there where we were both trying to figure our s*** out. He was very open to moving and Tampa sounded good to him, but I was worried about making such a big decision when our relationship was still young(ish).
To make a long story short, we had to have some serious HDRs. I have been having HDRs since way back in high school. Now this is not a heart-to-heart or a just a serious talk.
HDR= HEAVY, DEEP & REAL
(This is some intense stuff.)
I realized there was no one else I wanted with me in Tampa but Mr. Squirrel. Geez do I love this guy. He is the calm to my crazy. I had that moment where I just knew he was the one. All my previous doubts and worries vanished. Fortunately, he felt the same way. We moved to Tampa and started to establish a new life together (in separate apartments, Mom).
Out time in Tampa has been incredible so far. In theory, we can go to the beach EVERY WEEKEND. (Reality often has other plans. Lame.)
He can smell the salt.
In my happy place 🙂
And since being in Tampa, Mr. Squirrel has made a major career change and decided to leave the field of graphic design and go back to school for engineering. As you will soon see, his graphic-design skills are very handy when planning a wedding. 🙂
We came here knowing no one but each other. We quickly became more than just a couple, but became each other’s family. I know, corny alert, but it is so true. We knew we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together so Mr. Squirrel did a little shopping and Skyped the ‘rents, and now my left bicep is getting big thanks to this bling.
Has anyone else moved to a new city with their significant other and had their relationship evolve in a completely new way?
