I’m sorry to have been MIA for so long, but Mr. Bee and I have had our hands full with the newest addition to the Bee family! 🙂
I went into labor on one of the busiest nights of the year for our hospital. My water broke while I was waiting in the waiting room, and I subsequently endured three hours of the most excruciatingly painful contractions before I finally got my epidural when a labor and delivery room was available. My contractions came so fast and hard, I actually needed meds to slow them down because the baby’s heartbeat had slowed down so much.
Once the epidural kicked in, the pain subsided and I got some much needed rest. I started pushing around 1pm the next day, but 3 hours later I hadn’t made much progress. Our little baby bee wasn’t so little and he was in the posterior position, making it even harder to push him out. So I ended up needing an unplanned c-section!
Charlie Cole was born at 4:34pm on December 10th, his actual due date! He weighed 8 lbs, 6 oz and was 21 inches long. A big baby for someone my size!
Mr. Bee gave him his first name, and I gave him his middle name. While I was pregnant, I had a dream where my dad told me to name the baby James Cole. My name came to my dad in a dream and it’s served me well, so I figured it was a sign. 🙂 Charlie and Cole are also the names of famous jazz musicians, so perhaps our little baby bee will have a creative streak in him.
He looks small here because this is a super duper sized bow. You can tell that he is looking quite yellow because he is jaundiced…
Charlie ended up going back to the hospital after he was released when his jaundice levels were determined to be too high. He had to spend 24 hours naked under a UV light. It was quite an eventful first week of life for him!
Charlie has grown so much… he weighed in at 10 lbs 2 oz at 3 weeks of age a couple days ago. It’s hard to believe that I had such a monster baby inside me! 🙂
Life with a newborn is definitely tough, but Charlie is a pretty happy baby and we’re learning a little bit more each day. And though I will never forget my painful labor… it was definitely worth it! 🙂
