Lemon Day Part II: MAC Attack

After getting our hair curled, tucked, flattened and pinned, we headed to DMC (aka. THE MALL) to finish up our makeover time. I had set aside 6 appointments at the MAC counter at Macy’s three months earlier, which happens to have its own section of the store (not just a counter) with full natural lighting and lots of space for the artists to work. Thanks to a slow business day and lots of artists working on a Saturday, we we all done early and the girls even got a little extra shopping in while waiting for their appointment.
I’m sure some brides may be cringing at the idea of being prepped at “the mall” on their big day, but the whole arrangement worked out perfectly for us. In the beginning, I had planned on getting my makeup done at the hair salon, but multiple makeup artists fell through. I didn’t really have a location to have someone travel to for pampering (a hotel suite, etc.), and even if I did, their prices were over the top for my maids. I had no problem spending the money on myself, but there was no way I was asking my BMs to put out $85+ for a makeup application in addition to their $50 hair-do. Plus, DMC isn’t crowded or hard to get to, so we weren’t battling Saturday mall rats to get our pretty on.
The best part: each of our makeup applications were paid for with a two item purchase! All of the girls and I bought our lipsticks and glosses, and I tossed in a liner and some sparkle powder as well. And with that… we were off to our last stop before the chapel…
Meanwhile, Mr. Lemon’s family was starting the party early with brunch over at their Carmel compound…

quick question- did you get a trial with anyone at the MAC counter beforehand for your makeup, or did you just go in and trust them? would love to do this (i’m a MAC addict too!) but was just a wee bit worried they wouldn’t do it the way I wanted it to look.
I will always remember seeing a bride at the makeup counter at a department store, veil and all, grinning like a maniac…and wearing a tight black crew-neck t-shirt. I can only assume they cut it off of her.
Thea - I did go in a few days before to get a “trial” but the artist I was with was not there on Saturday. I did, however, have a detailed list of all of the products she used.
I am, however, a bit experienced at getting what I need from a makeup counter, as I get dept. store makeovers all the time. I can’t say they’re all good across the country, but I’ve had amazing luck in LA and SF.
Plus, as a “bride”, they weren’t trying out their new VIVA GLAM collection or anything silly like that. They have bridal collection templates and basically used that on all of us.
I think that this is awesome! I love Mac (and Smashbox) and I hadn’t thought about them actually having bridal templates. V. cool.
We did this for my cousin’s wedding this summer. The bridesmaids went into the MAC store to have their makeup done, while the bride and MOH (her sister) had a MAC artist come to their hotel. The bride had a trial and chose our lip and eye colors beforehand (I wasn’t happy with that, but the colors did look good on all of us). MAC did a fabulous job and we all got tons of complements. I’ve also done MAC makeovers for formal events and it’s always worth it.
