I love experimenting with my “look” so I was pretty pumped for my hair and makeup trial. After carefully reviewing the offerings of the area near where our wedding will be held, I finally decided on Tuscan Sun Spa (TSS) for our bridal party hair. I was surprised to see that they also do makeup, so I went ahead and booked that as well, if only to try out. For twenty bucks, I figured it couldn’t hurt to try it.
My friend, Amy, frequently visits TSS and she suggested two hair stylists in particular. One of them was out of town on my date so I booked an appointment with the other knowing I was in capable hands. So imagine my disappointment when the day before my appointment, the Spa called to change who I was booked with. My original appointment had been accidentally double booked. Couple that with the fact that I had a less than stellar consultation (that girl didn’t even TOUCH my hair), and I was feeling a bit anxious. It wasn’t the best start, but I assumed that everyone there was probably equally skilled so it wasn’t the end of world.
I rolled into my appointment flustered from an unexpected tangle with traffic. What should have been forty minutes in the car turned out being a lot longer but asi es la vida. When I checked in they informed me I had been scheduled with a woman named Noelle. We quickly went back to the salon area and got to work. I showed Noelle some of my inspiration pictures and she was completely on board with the book I wanted. A half-up do with volume, staying power, loose curls, and soft braids.
These were some of my inspiration photos:

I love the softness of this one too and also that it’s slightly off center. via Wedding Chicks, photo by Kari Crowe Photography
And this is what the talented and fun Noelle did (please excuse the awkward selfies!):
We’re still deciding on bangs, it will depend on how much they grow between now and the wedding! / personal photo
Not only did Noelle do a great job, but she showed me about four variations of what I asked for in the hour we were together so I could pick the best one for me and my dress! She then proceeded to show me how to have a bridesmaid or Mama O pin it up for the reception if it got too hot for it to be down. Noelle was more than willing to work with flowers the day of, and my veil if need be, but since my veil is so long, she is also going to show my bridal party how to put it in/ take it out. Finally, at the end, she offered to take my hair down and rearrange it so I wouldn’t have to worry about Mr. Orchard seeing it. Fortunately, since he was out of town that week, I left it and ran home to show Mama O and MoH M to get their opinions. That is, after I booked an appointment with Noelle to touch up my color and do a final cut in mid October! I think with flowers placed in and moving the “bump” forward a little, this is going to look exactly like I hoped! We may play with the braids a little too and try wrapping them around my head at the crown when I go back in October for my last hair appointment!
I also had my make up done that day, but wasn’t blown away by it. As you can see in the pictures, it wasn’t that much of a difference from my own day to day look. That being said, I may still go ahead and have it done the day of because a.) it’s only twenty bucks with hair styling, b.) it’s one less thing to worry about, c.) they can put on fake lashes for me which I am DYING to wear for the first time (and have no idea how to apply myself), and d.) if I don’t feel crazy about it I can add my own elements once I get back to the Mill. I practiced doing that the night of the hair and make up trail and it worked out really well.
What were you surprisingly impressed with or disappointed by during your hair and make up trials?
