As the reception came to a close, I wanted to make sure the bridal party knew how to get back to the guest house in the dark, so I hopped onto a golf cart full of people and headed towards the house. I’m not sure if I had grand plans to return to the reception tent to say goodbye to people or what (I was slightly inebriated at the time), but I just carted out of there and never returned. So, for all the guests who I just left there without saying goodbye, my sincerest apologies!
We brought the two kegs we had supplied for the reception back to the house, and several people got to work attempting to float them before the evening was over. They were unsuccessful. I’d label most our 140 guests as pretty heavy drinkers (especially during a celebratory occasion) but with the margarita machine and full bar, we probably could have just ordered one keg instead of two.

Everyone tried their best, but the next day there were still two kegs with beer inside!
Hello, hive!! I am beyond excited to become part of Weddingbee and to be the new Miss Woodpecker. This is truly a dream come true for me—so much so that when I got Penguin’s email, I didn’t actually believe it. I quickly skimmed through it looking for the words “I’m sorry” when I saw “addition to the Weddingbee team.” I figured I had read it wrong so went back and read it twice more. Then, I still didn’t believe it. That’s when I decided I had figured out what was going on: I had been spammed! Turns out, that wasn’t true, either. Apparently people don’t spam other people with “you’ve been accepted to Weddingbee” emails. After a quick reality check from my BFF (and fellow Weddingbee lover) I nearly fell off my chair in excitement.
I have been reading Weddingbee for much longer than I’d like to admit. Before I even knew Mr. Woodpecker existed, I used Weddingbee to plan the imaginary wedding of my dreams and followed other bees on their glorious days. Once Mr. WP and I did get engaged, I realized that Weddingbee and the web were invaluable resources for planning my own day, and I have since been spending countless hours researching projects and ideas. I am thrilled that now I get to share our planning journey, and I hope to be able to inspire a few of you as those bees before me did for me.

I love me some Honey Moon.

Of course I’m also looking forward to this kind of honeymoon:
In my proposal story, I mentioned that Mr. Boa popped the question with his mother’s ring. In an incredibly sweet gesture, FMIL Boa offered him her ring so he Would be able to make the proposal a surprise while still allowing me to pick my own ring. Mr. Boa left for a summer internship a couple of days after the proposal, postponing ring shopping until he returned at the end of summer.

Fast forward to August; Mr. Boa is back and I’m neck deep into wedding planning. All the productive planning I did during the summer made me aware of the gap that existed between our small budget and our big ambitions. Having a wedding and a European honeymoon is costly, making it important to save every penny.

Since my last post about wedding shoes (what feels like forever ago), I let shoes slip right out of my mind. But lately Weddingbee has literally been abuzz with gorgeous shoe posts, bringing my lack of shoes back to the forefront of my mind. I couldn’t hide from it any longer. Like many others out there, I decided to turn to Pinterest to get my creative juices flowing. I pinned some great inspiration, like these adorable flats:

(BUT if you’re paying attention, these J.Crew flats are actually Crewcuts…as in children’s shoes…sigh).

After posting about mismatched vintage dessert plates, I noticed a lot of discussion about renting antique china, which got me thinking: What a brilliant idea! While there are some unavoidable purchases, there are a lot of wedding things that we need to use but we don’t need to own. The smaller price-tag that would come with renting is very appealing because even when I close my eyes, cover my ears, and hum a happy little tune, that darn budget just won’t disappear!
One website out there that gives people a renting option is called RentStuff.com. But wait, there’s more… their current promotion is for brides!
I like making lists. I used to carry around a small Moleskin notebook exclusively filled with them: items to buy at the grocery store, texts to read before next grad class, errands to run on the weekend, things to do during the week. I love making lists and then crossing them off.
Needless to say, I have a lot of wedding-related lists shared on Google Docs. Most of them are crossed off. We’ve booked all of our vendors. We’ve paid all of our deposits. We’ve finished all of our projects. The only thing left to do is pack! I always make a packing list and lay all of the items out before I put them in a suitcase. It might take more time to pack this way, but doing so means that I won’t forget anything important.

Here’s an example of my packing method before the 2009 Boston Marathon
Did I mention we met in February 2009, got unengaged in August 2009, got officially engaged in April 2010, and chose to wait until July 2012 to get hitched? Unengagement to wedding = 35 months. Official engagement to wedding = 27 months…
Just a bit of a heads up—we willingly made that decision. I started a full-time grad program in September 2009 while working full time, and we had no desire to make life hard and plan the whole shindig while I was getting edumacated.
There was the heart-wrenching Prop 8 passage that happened months before we met, but there is still hope. Prop 8 has been in legal limbo and is moving (albeit at a snail’s pace) toward the US Supreme Court, where it might be repealed and set precedence to change marriage laws nationwide. We were hopeful that this case would be decided on before July 2012. We are getting a skosh less hopeful that things will change before we get hitched…but we have some backup plans that I will talk about later.
