One of the things I put on the backburner is our Ketubah. For those unfamiliar, a Ketubah, in essence, is a Jewish marriage contract. It’s the religious equivalent of that marriage license you wait on line for at city hall. Bonus points for there being no line to get this one!
With the invention of that thing called the interwebs there are now something along the lines of 209,323,095 resources available to find and purchase Ketubahs. There are tons of variations done by many different types of artists.
There’s the traditional:

I’ve talked before about being somewhat nontraditional in our wedding decisions, but I haven’t talked in depth about our most nontraditional decision.
We decided early on to not have bridesmaids or groomsmen. The decision was made after discussing a variety of issues that really made it difficult to have a wedding party. Instead we each picked a maid of honor and a best man, respectively, and left it at that.
Image via Teaser Trailer / Hilarious movie. Seriously. Even Mr. O was doubled over.
One of the major reasons that we went this route is because of another wedding. Mr. O’s oldest brother is getting married a month after us, and all of the brothers will be standing up with him. We thought that it might be too much to ask of the guys to do that twice in one month. When we broke the news to them, we got relieved responses. Less to buy, less to think about, and less to stress about for four guys who really don’t like the spotlight to begin with. One of Jon’s brothers said that he was excited that he would get to sit back and just enjoy the party. At the end of the day, that is what Mr. O and I really want for our guests…a chance to spend time with us and celebrate our marriage!
I discussed the first part of our minimoon here.
We arrived at the Kingsley Inn a little early on our check-in day. We dropped off our bags and decided to head over to Saugatuck to see the town and see what was open. I’ve been to Saugatuck during the summer and it is hoppin’ with people, but on a Monday in January? Not so much. That didn’t matter one bit to us. We drove through the town and already started discussing the things we’d do when we came back in the warmer months.
Although most of the shops weren’t open, several restaurants were, so we decided on The Butler, situated right on the lake.

Well, I never got a chance to try on this exact model, but I did try on some similar styles…aaaand I hated them. This type of dress looked decidedly better on a model than on me, and I knew I had to move on. Ugh, it broke my little heart to let go of it, but I knew that there was something better out there for me in the wide world of wedding dresses.
And so, my search for the perfect dress began.

I know I told you just a few days ago that Momma Hawk purchased the gold Adrianna Papell Metallic Crepe Sheath Dress and Bolero from Nordstrom. (Here it is again in case y’all forgot how it looked.)
But then we made a stop off at Nordstrom Rack. (Real quick. Just to see their selection. Famous last words, right?) One swoop around the clearance section, and Momma Hawk and I both had an armful of dresses. (Sigh.) We are awfully glad we stopped, though, because after trying them all on, we had added two additional (very affordable) dresses to the mix.
Thus far, our planning process has been pretty smooth. We’ve signed contracts with almost all of our vendors. It almost feels like we’re in the home stretch. We’re at the point that we’re getting back in touch with the different businesses we’re using to solidify details. I’m dreading the fact that one vendor might need to be reminded about the contents of our contract.
I take the concept of honor pretty seriously. The idea of not following through on a promise is unfathomable. Before I signed contracts, I scoured review websites, both general ones like Yelp and wedding-specific ones like WeddingWire, in hopes of finding like-minded vendors. I combed through blogs to read the opinions of people who had used my vendors in the past. I think I have a pretty impressive team assembled.
My inspiration board has been the single most important thing for getting my wedding-day vision across to all my vendors, but before joining Weddingbee I had no idea what an inspiration board was or how to make one. I spent hours scrounging around the WWW in search of the perfect pictures to convey my wedding dream. And here she is: My lavender, purple, and gray inspiration board.
