For me personally, working out can feel like a chore. A treadmill doesn’t magically inspire me, and those weight benches just plain scare me. However, over the years, I’ve come up with ways to work out that are fun. These are workouts that actually inspire me to push myself and maybe even come back for more the next day. So whether you and your bridesmaids are looking to get in shape before the wedding or are just looking for some fun bonding activities to do together, these workout ideas will be a blast.
1. Dancing Tutorials
This idea might be my favorite because it brings back such great memories. My sister and I used to be obsessed with this dancing tutorial DVD. It had all the most popular 90s songs on it. The nice instructor would go through the moves and teach you the dances to the music videos. It was a blast and a great workout. You could find some of these DVDs with nostalgic songs and invite all your girls over to your place to learn them. It would be a great chance to bond and get in some cardio. I’m sure there are tons of current dance tutorials on YouTube too if you’re not into the whole retro thing. Either way, learning the dances together could be super fun, plus you’ll all be prepared for reception dancing. Bonus!
2. Pole Dancing
Although not the most traditional way to work out, pole dancing is fun! When my cousin got married, his fiancée had all her bachelorettes (myself included) took a pole dancing class. When she first told us her idea, I was a bit skeptical, but let me tell you this activity will kick your butt. You will be surprised at how hard it is. But, it’s also exciting and a chance for all your bridesmaids and you to slay. (Plus, you just might pick up a few moves to show off on your wedding night.)
Okay, does anyone remember a little game called Dance Dance Revolution? It’s an amazing game that’s pretty much just constant jumping. Do you know what the great thing about that is? It becomes a crazy good cardio workout. You might be thinking, “It can’t be that good of a workout,” but you won’t be thinking that a couple songs in. The only downside is you do have to own certain gaming equipment. The lucky part about it being an old game though, is that you should be able to buy it pretty cheaply. Brand new mats for the game on Amazon will be cheap and will work like a charm.
4. 80s Workout Tapes
Hear me out on this one. My mom had this hilariously 80s workout tape that actually was a good workout. The outfits and the hair though, oh my gosh, it doesn’t get more 80s than these workout videos. Find some awesomely 80s workout DVDs and invite your girls to try them out with you. You could make a night of it; ask all of them to bring their best 80s workout look. Imagine how much fun that would be—and not to mention easy to throw together.
5. Bachelorette Baseball
This idea could be just as fun as 80s night. You could go all-out and make everyone his or her own team shirt. Have all your girls out to the diamond and play America’s pastime. If you’re feeling generous, you could even have the groomsmen out to play too. The great thing about playing sports like this is, you’re burning calories and getting a great workout, but it doesn’t really feel like you are. You’ll get so into the game you won’t even notice.
Working out is more fun when you do it together. I hope these ideas have inspired you. Let your imagination run wild. I’m sure your bridesmaids will appreciate that you’ve set up something active for them to do together. It’s always a good idea to let off some steam while in the midst of all the crazy planning and events that go along with a wedding. Another great thing about some of these ideas too is that they’re practically free. You could make these events a weekly occurrence.
