About Me: I’m a Washington State native, enjoying life in Silicon Valley California with my fiancé, our three kitties and one leopard gecko. I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.
Well hello there hive!
Remember me?

No? Well, I was that bee who got married last June and wrote about how to pee in your wedding dress without needing help and whose fiance designed LED luminary escort cards and built a 6 foot tall cupcake tower. Or if you’re curious for a quick glimpse of what our wedding was all about, check out my two details recaps here and here, or my wiki.

“To turn around and walk away… / Maybe another time, another day / As much as I want to, I can’t stay”*
Hive, it’s that time. I have been dreading writing this post for so long, and trying to think of ways to put it off. But now, on our first anniversary (OMG can you believe it’s our first anniversary?!?!), I think it’s time.
Way back in 2008 I stumbled on this crazy site called “Weddingbee.” Quickly, I became addicted to the massive amounts of inspiration and advice, and how friendly everyone was. One year and one month ago I was introduced as Miss Hermit Crab (and I still get butterflies when I think about my acceptance email!). We had a whirlwind month together as I caught you up on all my planning, and we got to know each other. And one year ago today I married the most amazing person in the world—my perfect match.
This year has had its share of ups and downs for us for sure, but Mr. HC become partners and friends and a team more and more every day, and every day I feel luckier to be able to be married to this amazing person. Here’s a tiny peek of my gift for Mr. HC on our first anniversary:

And I owe HUGE thank you to you, Hive.

Blogging Since: November 12, 2008
Venue: Outdoor ceremony, banquet hall reception
About Me: I am your typical Midwestern girl attempting to plan a sane, budget-friendly, fun wedding to the man of my dreams. I love shoes, laughing at “Platinum Weddings”, crafts, inspiration boards, candy, and basically anything I can DIY. While weddings can certainly be all-consuming, I honestly can’t wait until the ceremony is over and I can finally call Mr. Powder Puff my husband!
Hi hive! Long time no talk! For those of you who may not remember me, I’m Mrs. Powder Puff (obvs) and I blogged for Weddingbee back in 2008 until the mister’s and my July wedding in 2009. Well, time flies, and we’re coming up on our two year anniversary. Feels like the millionth… JUST KIDDING! Time flies when you’re having fun, and who better to have fun with than your husband!
Marriage has been a wonderful journey so far. There have been ups and downs, and I feel like my relationship with Mr. Powder Puff continues to evolve and grow stronger. I love him even more today than I did on the day I married him, believe it or not.
The reason I’m popping my old married face back in here is to share with you all something that Mr. Powder Puff and I experienced recently that was a lot of fun.
A few weeks ago our fantastic wedding photographer Shutter Sam contacted us to ask if we would like to be her guinea pigs for a new genre of photography she was trying to branch out into- Beloved Photography. Now, a Beloved session isn’t exactly your run-of-the-mill photo sesh.

About Me: I'm a domestic diva down to the core. I heart cooking, sewing, baking, decorating and making sure we have a hand-crafted home. The best part about the wedding is I get to incorporate it all! I make sure I put my art degree to good use by screen printing, craft knife cutting, and a whole lotta graphic design. We're having a big-time party on a small-time budget, and I promise to show you a boot-scootin', barbecue-eatin', finger-lickin' good time! Mr. Sand Dollar and I spend most of our time on DIY projects or traipsing around the outdoors with our two pooches Rory and Juno. I'm looking forward to sharing our journey with all of you!

This weekend, Mr. SD and I celebrated our official one year anniversary. Confused? True, our wedding was last September. On May 7, 2010 we trekked down to the local courthouse and tied the knot in a civil service. Let me tell you how incredibly romantic it was. To set the scene, the bride donned black cropped spandex workout pants, Easy Tone tennis shoes, and a t-shirt. The groom dressed to match. The young judge then proceeded to chat about boats for a good 10 minutes, then realized we actually came to get married, so we got down to business. Then his phone rang halfway through. Nice. To keep it classy, we celebrated with a post-marriage brunch at IHOP. Yet I wouldn’t change a thing!

This past winter, something bad happened to this:

My husband bought this ring from Etsy seller Single b. and proposed to me with it. I adored it. I certainly wore it every day. Then one horrible cold day I looked down to see this: Read more…

Age and Occupation: 28, Interior Designer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 42, Telecom Guru
Engagement Date: July 2, 2008
Wedding Date: May, 2009
Venue: Coyaba Resort, Montego Bay
About Me: I love Chicago and can’t imagine living anywhere else (Well, except Paris. Or anywhere in France, for that matter!). I’m a full-time worker, part-time student, soon-to-be-step-mom, indie music lovin’, architecture and design fanatic, macaroni and cheese addict, vegetarian, Francophile, Ohio State football obsessed, wedding planning girl. Mr. Quiche and I are “Partners-in-Crime” and cannot wait to celebrate our marriage surrounded by our family and closest friends. I plan on DIYing my little heart out (or as much as a suitcase to Jamaica will hold).
Well hive, it is time to say goodbye (tear!). It has been two years since these pictures were taken on a perfect day in Montego Bay.

Mr. Quiche and I celebrated our two year wedding anniversary yesterday. It started out like any normal day and was capped off with a lovely dinner at Paris Club, a relatively new spot on the Chicago dining scene. We over-indulged and I have to say that the Creme Brulee and Pistachio Pot de Creme were totally worth it— yum!

Engagement Date: July 26, 2008

About Me: I'm a nerdy Northwestern girl who always knew she was meant to live in the East, harboring a deep love of ice cream, underwear, Diet Coke with a splash of Coca-Cola, pashminas, scrapbooking, stationery, wall calendars and books written for preteens. I think every day should include good thin crust pizza, chocolate, an obscure historical monument, lots of laughter, a dash of wedding planning and, of course, amazing Mr. Pencils! I'm loving the adventure of planning a Maryland wedding and Rocky Mountain reception, and most of all, I just love love!
Hello hive! Happy May!
This weekend, Mr. Pencils and I celebrated one year of marriage together. I can scarcely believe that it’s truly been 365 days since we said our vows, became husband and wife, and, of course, took lots and lots of photos.
And I think I know the two most pressing questions on your mind:
How have the Pencils’ fared in their first year and what, just WHAT, does Mrs. Pencils’ post-wedding chop look like NOW?
I can report, on both counts, with one simple picture:

| Life is good! |
It has slowly begun to dawn on me over the last few weeks how very real our little family is, and how very real it all now feels.

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Design Admin
Engagement Date: December 25, 2009
Wedding Date: May 2011
Venue: Bartram's Garden
About Me: I'm an internet junkie and music snob with a good eye for a bargain. I couldn't live without thrift store shopping, cheeseburgers, sushi, Coke Zero, websites devoted to silly photos of baby animals, Photoshop, and Mr. Sloth. Speaking of which, he and I are a pair of goofball homebody nerds who love our beagle (the most ridiculously adorable dog EVER) to an embarrassing degree. We're planning a low-key and intimate yet festive and quirky outdoor wedding with DIY details and deeply personal touches, and it's all taking place in the city where we fell in love and call home: Philadelphia.
…a friend of mine rented out a bar and had a costume theme party: a “Pimp and Hoedown.” Guests were required to dress in one of two categories: Pimp and Ho, or Cowboy and Cowgirl.
I went to the party with three girlfriends and two guy friends who were also co-workers. We all decided to go with the western theme. I wore a western shirt that I borrowed from my mom’s boyfriend, a denim skirt, cowboy boots and hat, and pigtails. Sadly (or luckily) no photos exist. One of my guy friends/co-workers looked super cute in a vintage plaid shirt and cowboy hat. We’d been friends for about a year, but recently, our relationship had started to shift and we’d been flirting for a few weeks.
After a few hours of dancing and way too much drinking, I went outside with one of my girlfriends to have a cigarette (don’t judge, I quit a year and a half ago). She and I chatted for a while out front of the bar, when the object of my flirtation came outside to say hello. My girlfriend none-too-subtly excused herself, and he and I chatted for a few minutes about nothing important.
And then he said, “Hey, I have a question for you.”
“What?” I asked.

About Me: I'm a happy, laid back city girl that can find the silver lining in any situation. An optimist at heart, my motto is to turn your "what ifs?" into "so whats!". My fiance is a radio producer and the biggest Cubs fan you'll meet - our apartment decor definitely shows it. He and I grew up next door to each other and because of it, we have the best home videos and easiest holiday dinners. We are planning an intimate wedding in the Virgin Islands and a cocktail party in June for 150 of our closest friends.

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Attorney
Engagement Date: December 5, 2009
Wedding Date: February 2011
Venue: IslandWood
About Me: I'm a Northwest girl who spends my time goofing around with Mr. Eggs Benedict and our dog, hiking, traveling, drinking wine and planning a wedding that will showcase the best of what the Pacific Northwest has to offer. I also love photography, beating Mr. Eggs Bene at Mario Kart, and watching the most ridiculous natural disaster flicks you can think of (seriously, how can you deny the awesomeness that is The Core or 2012?? That's right, you can't). We are planning our weekend wedding adventure at an environmental educational center, and I can't wait for the fun to begin!
On Saturday we celebrated our one month-aversary! Now, Mr. EB and I have never really been big on celebrating anniversaries. I think the first one that we really celebrated was our engage-aversary last December (this is what happens when you aren’t entirely certain when you started dating so there was no real date to pin it on).

This was actually us a month ago on our mini-moon. We forgot to take a picture on our month-aversary. Whoops.
But we wanted to do something special for one month, because hey, we could!

How did you celebrate your first anniversary? If you exchanged gifts, what did you get each other?
Thank you to Mrs. Starfish for this question!
We celebrated our first anniversary with a trip to NYC!
We had an amazing dinner at Morimoto on our actual anniversary date and then finished the night off at the top of the Empire State Building!

We did the “paper” thing. I got the Dude a notebook for keeping football stats made out of an old Blue Oyster Cult album cover. He got me a hardback copy of Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary. (Yes, that was a special request on my part!)

Mrs. Lamb, Norfolk
Age and Occupation: 25, Homeland Security Consultant
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Graduate Student
Engagement Date: January 2009
Wedding Date: January 2010
Venue: Trinity Presbyterian Church/Harrison Opera House
About Me: I’m a Homeland Security Consultant with a tendency towards pulling office pranks, taking lunch breaks, and drinking Wawa shakes. I’m also an English major with a serious obsession with alliteration and rhymes. While I’m not keeping America safe, I’m training for half marathons and the Escape from Alcatraz swim. Or moving for the third time this year. Or baking. Or wedding crafting. Or crying about wedding planning. All the while, I’m getting myself into Lucille Ball-esque scrapes and making Jim Carey-esque faces. Our big fat Czech/Baptist/Jewish/Italian wedding is a combination of vintage eclectic, DIY, and little spoonful of sugar from our Event Coordinator. It’s going to be a Norfolk flavored wedding with the verve of an only-daughter-blow-out bash!
Getting married on a holiday weekend is pretty fun. It makes anniversaries easy to remember and celebrate as well. That is, they’re easy until you realized that you just depleted all your gift ideas at Christmas and have to rack your brains to figure out an anniversary gift, too.
We celebrated a little early by going to Revolution for a special 3 course prix fixe menu. If you’re in the triangle and celebrating something special, Revolution should be at the top of your list to try. The lamb shank I ordered was the size of my head. The waiters started calling me Pebbles. Awesome!
From the Lamma-ramma-ding-dong home to yours, Happy New Year! And to my woolly counterpart, happy anniversary!

Age and Occupation: 24, Graduate Architecture Student
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Interactive Interface Developer
Engagement Date: February 14, 2008
Wedding Date: May 2010
Venue: Plantation Bay Country Club
About Me: I’m currently a Graduate Student at the University of Florida studying Architecture. I enjoy playing Scrabble with my Fiance, rooting for the Florida Gators, making any drink that involves a blender, cleaning (yes... I’m crazy), design... GOOD design that is, the new Pepsi with natural sugar, taking pictures, discovering new places in the U.S., and obsessing over doing (and designing) everything myself for our upcoming wedding!
8 years ago today, I went to “The Secret Garden” play held at our high school. My friends were running late (and I was early, as usual) and I saw Mr. Dolphin chilling outside the theater. I walked up to him, M&M McFlurry in hand, and started chatting. He finished the rest of my McFlurry (and now finishes most my meals today). When it was time for the show to start and my friends were still not there, Mr. Dolphin and I walked into the theater and sat together. We cuddled during the show and exchanged phone numbers at the end of the night. I guess you can say that the rest is history!

Venue: Ceremony: The Kraine Theatre, Reception: Midtown Loft & Terrace
About Me: I’m a professional actress who’s always had New York City in her blood and I'm finally getting the chance to make a home in Manhattan with my fiancé, my dog, and my big dreams! I love polka dots, craft projects, Dunkin’ Donuts’ iced coffee, and anything sparkly. I’m having a blast planning our elegant/dramatic/New York City/acting-themed/largely-DIY wedding and am thrilled to be the youngest current Miss Blogger!
Folks, can you believe it? It’s time to open the freezer door, grab the biggest tiny-New-York-freezer-space-sucking-box out of there, and start thawing this puppy out:

You know what that means! Yep, today is our first anniversary. Time sure does fly, doesn’t it?
One year ago today, we were partying it up New York Style to celebrate our love.
