Hello, hive!
I am so incredibly happy and surprised to be introducing myself to you all! When I got my acceptance email from Pengy, I was at work/school (work is school and school is work…more on that later!), and I seriously could not believe it. I instantly called my fiancée to share the good news, and she was just as excited as I am! I have wanted to be a blogging bee since before we got engaged, and it still doesn’t seem real! I am so truly honoured to be given the chance to share our unique wedding story with you all.

Now, just who are the Eagles? Let me fill you in!
Our newest bee comes to us from up north! We’re so thrilled to welcome Miss Eagle to the hive!

Miss Eagle, Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Age & Occupation: 22, Medical Sciences Graduate Student / Science Instructor
Fiancee’s Age & Occupation: 23, Nurse
Engagement Date: April 2011
Wedding Date: August 2012
Venue: Historic Lougheed House
About Me: I’m a science-geek graduate student who is studying craniofacial malformations and evolutionary developmental biology. I have a passion for DIY crafts, amazing red wine, and all-things-wedding. Together with my wonderful fiancée, we are planning a formal black tie wedding filled with DIY projects and vintage decor. When I’m not reading about science-y things or wedding blogs, I enjoy teaching science-y things to kids and trying to be a Martha Stewart incarnate.

Well hello there, hive! I’m popping back in to let all my Dallas and Fort Worth area peeps know that we will be having a local meet-up right after the holidays! Several of us have been chatting on the local boards about getting together, and we would love to have anyone and everyone join us. Whether you are newly engaged, in the middle of your wedding planning, or have already gotten married and are still on the Weddingbee bandwagon (like me!), come join us to chat and relax over a glass of wine. It will be right after the holidays so you’ll probably need a glass of wine, and it’s before any New Year’s resolutions will have kicked in!
Tuesday, December 27
6:30 p.m.
Times Ten Cellars
6324 Prospect Avenue, Dallas
RSVP on this thread on the Dallas-Fort Worth local board so we know who to expect.
Can’t wait!!!
*waves hello*
Hi there! I can’t believe that I’m writing this post…it feels so surreal, and I am just so SO honored. In the course of a couple of hours, I went from emailing Mrs. Penguin about whether my auto response (you know, for rejection) had gone to my email doppleganger* to receiving an invitation to join the hive. WOW.
So, who are the Turkeys?
You’ll learn a lot about us over these next five-plus months, so I’ll keep it short. We’re (now resident) Philadelphians planning a black tie (optional) party in the City of Brotherly Love. We’re going fancy-pants because we clean up pretty nice!

Gobble gobble! We hope you had a great Thanksgiving! Mr. Penguin and I spent the latter half of the week in Scottsdale, AZ where we hiked (climbed? Hike/climbed?) Camelback for the first time. What a thrill! With Thanksgiving just passed, it’s so exciting to welcome Miss Turkey to the hive…give her a warm hello!

Miss Turkey, Philadelphia
Age & Occupation: 29, Brand Management
Fiance’s Age & Occupation: 28, Consultant
Engagement Date: February 2011
Wedding Date: May 2012
Venue: Kimmel Center
About Me: I’m a marketer who loves a good glass of wine, anything pumpkin-flavored, every crime drama on TV and, of course, Mr. Turkey. It’s funny to say out loud, but we’re former coworkers turned betrothed—now planning a wedding in the city of Brotherly Love. For three years, we’ve been eating our way through Philadelphia, playing tourist at home, and cheering for every sports team in the 215. Although we’ve hit some unplanned snags along the way, we’re determined to have a rocking party this spring with our loud, fun families and friends.
Hello to all of you beautiful bees! I’m thrilled to be writing this post. My name is Miss Mink and I’m so excited to have you along for my wedding-planning adventure.
I live in Charlottesville, a fabulous college town in Virgina. A native of New Jersey who went to school in Providence and Boston, I’ve moved around a bit, but always lived in the Northeast prior to the move here. While I’ll always be a Jersey girl and I’ll always love my Red Sox and Patriots, I have found my home in Virginia. I work in academia and could be considered an early adopter of social media, so I’m very comfortable with joining this fabulous group of bloggers.

We’re kicking off this short week with our newest addition to the hive! Say hello to Miss Mink!

Miss Mink, Charlottesville, Virginia
Age & Occupation: 34, College Administrator
Fiance’s Age & Occupation: 40, Craft Beer Consultant
Engagement Date: November 26, 2010
Wedding Date: June 2012
Venue: Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards
About Me: I left a pre-war brownstone in Boston six years ago to live in a funky, Southern city where Thomas Jefferson, Dave Matthews, and urban chicken keepers enjoy equal social standing. I still love my Patriots and Red Sox, but have fallen in love with Virginia. I work in education and specialize in integrating technology into my work to improve the student experience. I’m a diehard blogger, animal lover, jamband follower, and DIYer. I paint to relax and have transferred by energy from home projects to wedding projects in recent months. When Mr. Mink and I started talking about marriage, we knew our wedding would be outdoors, that my golden retriever would be part of the day, and that the music would be fantastic. We’ve taken a few risks during our planning process and we’ve been enjoying the process immensely!
Hello there! I feel like I should be juggling or something. It is so great to be here (oh, who am I kidding—bee here) as a blogger! I’ve been reading Weddingbee since early 2009 when I was a wee child (”When I grow up, I want to be a Weddingbee blogger!”), and now I’m finally here, sharing these pathetic secrets about myself. I must be the worst lurker in the site’s history, too, because I’ve only made a handful of comments in that time. I chose the Unicycle icon because it’s ridiculous, and so am I. Seriously, nothing is funnier than a bear riding a unicycle, unless said bear rolls over a banana peel in transit and falls down. Are you laughing yet? I can’t stop thinking of what Mr. Unicycle would look like attempting to balance on one wheel.
I couldn’t find a pic of him balancing precariously on anything, but here’s one of both of us anyway.
When Mr. U and I were deciding what character to be, I told him, “We have to be the Unicycles! It’s perfect!” and he said, “Is it at least an animal riding a unicycle?” I had to check and get back to him on that, and it was. It was clearly fate.
When we accepted Miss Unicycle as our latest bee, she mentioned she couldn’t believe this adorable icon hadn’t been snapped up already…me either! Please join me this Monday in welcoming our newest bee to the hive!

Miss Unicycle, Chicago, IL
Age & Occupation: 23, Editor for a Web Publishing Company
Fiance’s Age & Occupation: 23, MD/PhD Student
Engagement Date: March 26, 2011
Wedding Date: June 2012
Venue: Bridges of Poplar Creek
About Me: I’m a writer by trade who likes analyzing pop culture, making fun of celebrities, and laughing until I cry. I’m the queen of half-assed crafts, and there’s nothing I won’t try to DIY. You can usually find me reading blogs on my laptop in front of a good Lifetime movie, wine in hand. I’m planning a polka-dotted summertime wedding to my physics geek college sweetheart, and when I’m not making stupid puns I’m freaking out about my wedding timeline.
A moment of gratitude today to honor the hive’s veterans and families of veterans. We thank you for your service today, and every day.
We’ve asked for you to share your wedding pictures with us today for this blog.
Mrs. Teacup and her maid of honor, both graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1999 and served tours in the Middle East.

One of the questions that are asked of me most frequently is, “How do you choose new bee bloggers?” Well, we like to think that they choose us.
All applicants apply to become bees—we don’t recruit bloggers beyond occasional posts showing off our new and current generations of icons and a link to where and how you can apply. In an attempt to demystify the process, here’s how Weddingbee goes about reviewing all our blogger applications!
ALL applications and corresponding applicants’ blogs are read carefully by a 12 person committee made up of current and past bee bloggers. The committee is anonymous to the public, to keep the process fair.
HI Y’ALL!
I am so completely overcome with excitement, shock, and maybe even a dash of disbelief mixed in to be writing my first official post as a bee! I feel incredibly blessed and honored to be able to share my wedding journey with y’all. Being one of the first couples in our group of friends to tie the knot, being cross-country from my family, and attending only one wedding in my adult life, I was so L.O.S.T. when it came to wedding planning. But when I found Weddingbee, I truly felt like I found a group of supportive, wedding-crazed friends to help me along my way. I hope that I can provide the same support and inspiration that y’all have provided me!
So on to a little bit about the Hawks:

Say hello to our newest Southern belle of a bee—Miss Hawk!

Miss Hawk, Richmond, VA
Age and Occupation: 26, Finance
Fiance’s Age and Occupation: 30, District Supervisor
Engagement Date: March 13, 2011
Wedding Date: May 2012
Venue: The Chapel of the Sir Christopher Wren Building, 2007 Legacy Hall
About Me: I’m an Arizona-born girl who has spent the majority of my life living below the Mason-Dixon line. The South has definitely earned a special place in my heart (alongside my Virginia born and bred fiance, of course!). We are planning a traditional Christian ceremony at my alma mater in historic Williamsburg, Virginia, followed by a rocking reception filled with Southern cooking and vintage/shabby chic details. When we’re not wedding planning, we enjoy spending time with our three dogs, going for runs together, watching plenty of football (or baseball depending on the season), and sampling new wine.
I can’t believe I’m a bee!I’m sorry the title is not more adorable or filled with puns, but I am not capable of rational thought at the moment. An insane amount of exclamation points will have to do for now.
Anyway, on to introductions!
I am Miss Elk, your newest bee buzzing in to say hello!
Why Miss Elk? Well he is just so darn adorable, and he kind of looks like my pooch (if my pooch had antlers, that is!).

(PS: I was sorely tempted to be Miss Boa Constrictor, if only to be able to make Slytherin references…but I thought I’d spare you.)
Happy Halloween, hive! We hope you’re getting more treats than tricks, and our own treat today is our newest bee! Say hello to Miss Elk…a soon-to-be M.D. and MRS!

Miss Elk, City: Syracuse/Long Island
Age & Occupation: 25, Medical Student
Fiance’s Age & Occupation: 25, Computer Engineer
Engagement Date: November 22, 2010
Wedding Date: May 2012
Venue: The Old Field Club
About Me: I’m a Long Island girl finishing my last year of medical school in western NY, on the road to becoming a pediatrician. When I’m not studying or sleeping at the hospital, I spend my free time watching bad TV (Vampire Diaries anyone?), playing with my pooch, singing incredibly off-key (to the annoyance of Mr. Elk ), and reading Harry Potter for the zillionth time. Mr. Elk and I are planning a secular wedding infused with both Irish and cultural Jewish traditions. Only a week after I become an M.D., I will get my Mrs. degree, too!
