My type-A Virgo tendencies often cause me to drive my laid-back college sweetheart fiance batty with lists and PowerPoint presentations. I love to be crafty and do things myself, which explains why my two crazy kittens often will prance around the house covered in glitter and ribbons. When I am not bogged down with work, school, or wedding planning, I like to travel to visit my expansive family and have wild adventures with my best friends. After a rollercoaster ride of a love story, I’m ready to take that final plunge, marry the love of my life, and become a Mrs.!
I actually found Weddingbee back in 2007 when I was engaged to Mr. D the first time around. I was googling something wedding related when Google sent me to a post by the wonderful, Mrs. Strawberry and I was immediately in love the with the hive. However, our engagement never actually went towards wedding planning, so to save myself from going crazy I stopped coming to Weddingbee. Then we got engaged the second time around. I waited for about six months, when the wedding planning actually began before actually signing up and becoming a poster on the boards. I was so excited to come back to the hive though—it was such a loving and supportive community and I couldn’t wait to be a part of it!
My Application Story
I’ve always been a writer of sorts. I was an editor of my high school and college newspapers and I specialized in editorial writing. When I realized that it was starting to get close to when I could apply, I started up my blog and starting hounding the ladies I had come to know so well on the night chats in the hive to read my blog and give me feedback. The ladies were so kind and so supportive. They were always right there to read my stuff and give me feedback (Mrs. Teacup, before she was Mrs. Teacup, was an invaluable help! She would always comment on my blog and encourage me to keep going!). I blogged for about three weeks, and sent my application in as soon as Pengy announced they were accepting for March 2012.
Once that application left my outbox, I was nervous. Read more…

Mr. Ticket and I are best known for singing and dancing in the car, our World of Warcraft addiction, adoring food, crane game playing, and our general homebody ways. Oh, and GO STEELERS!
Google. Isn’t that how everyone finds everything these days? The day Mr. Ticket proposed I was already on the web searching “wedding.” I spent a couple days exhausting every photograph on TheKnot and WeddingChannel for inspiration. Then I found Weddingbee. When I first stumbled upon the site I found Mrs. Hamster; I’m not even sure how that happened since she finished her last post prior to Mr. Ticket’s proposal. But I LOVED reading her backlog of blogs. I read through her entire story in one night and then I moved on to other current bees. I was totally hooked. I had no idea how women came to write for this site. After a few weeks of regularly checking in on newly posted blogs I finally saw the little “Apply to Blog” option on the side of the page. I was stoked. I had never really blogged before but I loved hive so much that I desperately wanted to write for it.

Fate brought us together, and now we live in a cute little rental house with our nutty dog, and our aloof cat. We both love to read, watch movies, explore our town, and laugh like hyenas. When I’m not obsessively wedding crafting, I enjoy stalking style and decorating blogs, making collages and painting, napping, thrifting, rearranging our bookshelves, and being a total weirdo with my friends. Hi!
I said I would hold off on wedding planning for a few weeks after getting engaged. I lasted about two hours before I was looking at wedding blogs. Not counting the wedding blogs I’d started saving prior to the engagement, under “misc” in my Google Reader. You know, just in case Mr. Ladyfingers was peeping on my computer.
But honestly, I’m not clear on how I found Weddingbee. I had been frequenting my local boards at the Knot, but that was the extent of my participation in wedding-related discussion boards. Otherwise, I just started collecting wedding blogs in my reader, and along the way, ended up with the Weddingbee blog feed in there. I so loved reading how real chicks were planning their weddings, without all the super misty vintage photo styling of “real wedding” features on other blogs (though, don’t get me wrong, I still love some misty vintage-y wedding photos). I loved reading the vents and the rants. I loved all the planning pictures.
Then I ended up on the discussion boards, and I started to think… could I be a blogger bee? Read more…
Mrs. Candy Apple, Princeton Junction, NJ/ Seattle, WAAge and Occupation: 26, Project EditorFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, AttorneyEngagement Date: May 9, 2010Wedding Date: August 2011Venue: St. Joseph's Parish, Seattle Tennis ClubAbout Me: I am a Pacific Northwesterner, born and bred. I have lived in many cities---Santa Clara, Durham (England); Florence; Boston; Princeton Junction---but my heart will always be nestled up near the Cascades and Olympics, which is why we are holding our wedding there. I am a bookworm and a History nerd: I love that my life consists of books, books, and more books, since I work in Publishing! Recently, all waking time not consumed by work and my daily commute has been overtaken by wedding planning. Well, that, and watching Premier-League soccer. There is nothing I love more than a good Tana French mystery, traveling to new places, Anthropologie shopping sprees, Iittala dishware, Kate Spade shoes, impeccable typefaces (think: Archer), and a nice English ale (hellooo, Old Speckled Hen!). Oh, and did I mention my obsession with wedding blogs? Yeah, there’s that too. Join Mr. Candy Apple and me as we prep for our wedding, and, more importantly, our marriage!
No idea. Seriously none. Zip. Zero memory of how I found the site!
During my early wedding planning months, I did lots of Googling. I hadn’t thought much about weddings before Mr. CA proposed and therefore had no idea what I was doing. I excessively trawled the internet, searching such inane things as “wedding coordinator vs wedding planner” “Seattle barn locations,” and “what exactly does a junior bridesmaid do?” Of course, many of my searches brought me to blog posts or board threads or vendor reviews on Weddingbee. I didn’t understand what the site really was (was it about bees? people who liked bees? people who were planning weddings and liked bees?), but I appreciated the abundance of answers to my questions and the positive energy that emanated from the Hive. I took the information I needed and didn’t give the site itself much thought. Selfish Mrs. Candy Apple!
In January 2011, another arcane search brought me to a board in the hive (no memory of which thread it was) but for some reason I spent some time just poking around the site. My interest piqued. I trawled through the boards a bit (and learned that I should never confuse the terms “trawling” and “trolling” on the boards ever, ever again). Hey, this community looks really open, friendly, and engaging! People have the same issues/ questions/ lack of wedding knowledge as I do! I am not alone! Then I found the blog. Oh, the blog! I fell in love with the idea of the bees and the concept of monikers and the darling icons, although it took me a while to catch onto the general idea of bee generations.

As so many others before me, planning our wedding has unearthed a deep, intense passion for all things bridal and I secretly fear the day it will come to an end. Mr. Seal and I are quite the pair and life with him by my side is extremely rewarding—I am so thankful to have found him. Together we are planning a black-tie San Francisco affair for 250—light on the stuffiness and with lots of extra Seal-y flair.
I’ll admit I’ve drafted a couple of (slightly inferior) versions of my “A Bee’s Life” post over the last couple months but with almost 5 months of Weddingbee bloggin’ behind me…I finally feel like now is right. Plus, Magic’s fabulous post yesterday totally inspired me. I love that lady.
So, my dearest and most wonderful hive, let’s do this.
How Did I Find Weddingbee?
I came across Weddingbee pretty early into our engagement while researching save-the-dates. I can’t be sure of my exact Google search terms…but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was something along the lines of “awesome save the dates” Yeah. I am that person who uses arbitrary adjectives in my interweb searches.
Anyhoo. Whatever the silly search terms were, my interest was piqued by Mrs. Pomegranate’s awesome save the dates. I didn’t quite understand why she called herself Pomegranate though…or why anyone else referred to themselves by goofy names but I bookmarked the page nonetheless.
I kind of forgot about Weddingbee for a couple of months but Google eventually led me back to one of Mrs. Scissors’ posts. This time, I was determined to figure the site out. After a couple hours of research, I discerned that the monikers were alter-egos and that you had to fight tough odds to earn a name and be accepted as a bee. Fight odds? Write? I was in! Read more…

By day I am lucky enough to work with individuals with autism and their families. By night, I’m even luckier to be able to spend time hanging out with awesome friends, crafting, shopping, thinking about exercising, and kicking it with Mr. Magic and our two cats. I tend to have sudden, intense cravings that will not be denied (seafood enchiladas! new jeans!) and I’m prone to being a disorganized mess of anxiety and stress. After waiting (and waiting!) to get engaged, I am finally planning the colorful, fun, fabulously awesome Fall wedding of our dreams. In an effort to share the fun and craziness that is wedding planning, I’m gonna blog about it for y’all---the good, the bad, and the pretty!
I don’t remember. I’m telling you, my memory is total crap. I know I found it after I was already engaged. I’m not sure how I didn’t find it sooner because I sure as heck was Googling wedding related things for years before that.
I think what had happened was, I was searching for something wedding related online, and the majority of searches came up with Weddingbee results, because let’s face it, us bees are some creative and awesome brides. At first I was like, “What the heck is a Miss Cheeseburger?” In fact, I think I decided this site was for wackos (sorry!) and vowed to stay away. But Google kept punting me back here and I was quickly hooked.
I loved both the blogs and the boards and read and posted a lot on both. And I knew right away I wanted to be a bee, so freaking bad….
My Application Story
What’s a Blog?
Once I realized that people actually blogged about their weddings, and then figured out what a blog was (I’m technologically impaired), I got myself one faster than you can say “Accio Blog.” I had always enjoyed writing fictional stories as well as personal pieces, and had started writing before about my life in general, but it always petered out because I didn’t have a focus.
This wedding blog served a couple of purposes for me. One, it gave me an outlet for talking about my wedding plans, fears, and freak outs without subjecting actual living humans to listen to me. Did you know that not everyone likes to listen to me talk about wedding stuff? I know…crazy, but true. So this was good for me, and for them. Read more…

Before submitting an application to blog for Weddingbee, I pored over every single one of the posts in this series. A ton of them have awesome tips about applying and being a bee. So, if you are ever thinking about applying to blog (and you should!) I highly recommend this wonderful series.
1) How did I find Weddingbee?
I used to be very involved in the Weight Watchers online community a few years ago. I was even Facebook friends with a lot of the girls that I had “met” online there. One day, one of them tagged me in an Operation Beautiful photo, and there I found the creator of Operation Beautiful’s person blog, Healthy Tipping Point. One day she linked to That Wife (the former Mrs. Avocado around these parts). I started reading That Wife, who linked to The OMG Mom blog (a.k.a. Mrs. Dumpling). After reading both of their blogs for awhile, I decided to read about their wedding planning experience on Weddingbee.
Since I had such an affinity for the Weight Watcher message boards, I started poking around a bit on the Weddingbee boards. Then I found a section for the “waiting” ladies which was perfect for me since I wasn’t engaged yet. I lurked around there for awhile before finally creating an account and started posting on the Waiting boards. A few months later we were engaged, and the rest, as they say, is history!
2) My Application Story
Blogging for Weddingbee was a major life goal of mine as soon as I realized that I was a potential candidate—i.e. an engaged gal planning our wedding. Read more…

I write and edit things for fun and profit, but I rarely "write" these days without a keyboard and high-speed internets. Favorites include Mr. Taco, my Boston terrier, San Francisco, getting out of town, and the Roaring ’20s. I was kind-of planning a wedding since roughly 2006, when I discovered "Whose Wedding Is It Anyway?" on the WE channel. I ran and didn't look back with a theme I called "urban vintage," and it culminated in the most magical day a taco could ask for.
How a girl who loves San Francisco, eating out, and photo booths became a taco (tee hee).
It’s a bag that holds my makeup. Well-considered birthday present from my friend Sonia. I also got a new hat recently, which has nothing to do with tacos.
How did I find Weddingbee?
I had cursory knowledge of Weddingbee in mid-2009, around when I got engaged. But once I could start planning a wedding in earnest, I visited wedding blogs, including this one, more regularly for tips. I loved seeing people’s inspirations unfold, and I enjoyed the spunk these buzzing blogger bees had about their weddings. People have weddings every day, BFD, right? But there was something different about these ladies, and I appreciated their thought, planning, and sense of ownership over something this personal. And the ratio of supportive/productive comments to trolls is astounding.

I love reading and recycling, Photoshop and reality TV, making lame jokes and then laughing at them, quoting movies, and Mr. Hyena most of all. I'm perpetually early and I like to get things accomplished. When my cat meows at me, I meow back. We're planning a laid-back, unintentionally DIY wedding with a cocktail-party vibe, and can't wait to celebrate our nuptials with our nearest and dearest!
The Bee’s Life series is so fun, and I had to get in on the action!
1) How did I find Weddingbee?
You should know right off the bat that I LOVE lists. When I got engaged, I didn’t even think to look online for inspiration or planning advice. Instead, I went for ye olde BRIDES magazine. In that first magazine I ever bought, they had a list of the top 10 wedding planning websites. So of course, being the list-freak I am, I added all 10 to my Google Reader. One of them was Weddingbee. Over time, some of them got removed from my blogroll, some just didn’t float my boat, some I didn’t find very useful…but Weddingbee fascinated me. Here was a great community of brides! And they liked each other! And they were freaking brilliant! And OMG I wanted to be a part of that so badly.
Mrs. Jaguar, SydneyAge and Occupation: 27, Primary School TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, IT ConsultantEngagement Date: August 8, 2009Wedding Date: June 2011Venue: Curzon HallAbout Me: I'm an Australian girl who is a self-proclaimed nerd, loves all things stationery and would be lost without books, music and the internet. Mr. Jaguar and I have been together for the past eight years and he finally popped the question last August. Hurrah! We currently live in Sydney, Australia with our adorable cat who thinks he's a person. We're a couple who likes to multi-task: we've been planning a wedding abroad, a permanent move from London to Sydney, and preparing to build our own home all at the same time. Travelling makes me giddy...as does Mr. Jaguar, of course!
I love reading about how others found Weddingbee but thought I’d save my own story for a rainy day, or at least a day when I’d been around for a little longer than oh, immediately.
How did I find Weddingbee?
I found it via Mrs Avocado—I was a follower of her personal blog and wandered my way over to Weddingbee from there. When I first found the site, I was in a long-term relationship with Mr. Jaguar but there was no engagement in sight; so I stalked for a while, but ended up throwing in the towel after those familiar niggling feelings of frustration (and envy!) started coming back.
When we (finally) got engaged in August 2009, I found myself back here again, only this time for inspiration. Since we were having a super long engagement, the idea of applying to blog hadn’t really crossed my mind yet, so I visited quite sporadically. In the lead-up to my application, I had Weddingbee added to my feed reader, and was actively following along with the Sea Creatures generation, particularly Mrs Dolphin, Mrs Sand Dollar, Mrs Octopus and Mrs Seashell.
It was reading their stories, and watching the new Accessories generation get announced and begin blogging, that really prompted me to consider putting in an application. In particular, when Mrs Earrings began blogging, I got incredibly excited—a Kiwi Bee! Yes! I’d never seen an Australian blogger here before, and I was really keen to try out and give it a go.
Mrs. Lox, BaltimoreAge and Occupation: 33, Government WorkerFiance's Age and Occupation: 35. IT ConsultantEngagement Date: May 8, 2010Wedding Date: May 2011Venue: Vandiver InnAbout Me: I’m an East Coast gal born and bred and a suburban brat turned city rat for the last year. Now Mr. Lox and I enjoy walking all kinds of places, having the coolest things around in our backyard, and especially our garage parking. I love gadgets, toys, Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby ice cream, monkeys, and our insane cats. I’m a blonde by birth and a redhead by choice. I’m that girl in the cubicle farm with all the cool toys and the file cabinet covered in magnetic poetry. I still use smiley faces in my emails, whether people like it or not. This is not the first rodeo for Mr. Lox nor me. And together, we are planning an intimate afternoon wedding on a budget we can afford by ourselves.
The truth? I really don’t remember. I mean, I remember in general, but not specifically. I’m sure I had been searching for something or other somewhere on the internet. Something wedding related, even. And somehow, I landed on a blog (have no idea which one—sorry) talking about Weddingbee. What I do remember is that the author of this particular blog was talking about bee recaps. And then she went on to talk about why people write wedding blogs at all and pointed out that some people start blogging just to write for Weddingbee! My curiosity was piqued, and I clicked through for my very first glimpse of Weddingbee.
At first I was a little confused, but I caught on quick. Each little icon was a different blogger, and they were all talking about weddings! How cool. I remember the first bees I started to follow along with were Mrs. Locket and Mrs. Cardigan. And the fact that people start blogging just to blog here kept niggling at the corners of my mind.

Us Meerkats are just a couple fun lovin’ geeks from Michigan. We love anything having to do with movies, books, video games or technology and we hold a special place in our hearts for our two very spoiled shih-tzus, Wicket and Bravo. We also LOVE to travel. We love it so much it only took us 12 hours after we got engaged to decide to have a destination wedding. We are working our little Meerkat tails off planning a rustic-chic, travel themed destination wedding in the Riviera Maya with a semi-formal, vintage-turned-modern, outdoor at home reception back here in Michigan.
It is amazing and very rewarding but also nerve racking and time consuming at the same time.
When you blog on a public forum like this you really put yourself out there. No matter how many times I post on here, I still get a little nervous when a new posts goes up. After spending a couple hours pouring my heart and soul into a post, I worry, what if no one likes my idea? What if my post is dull and no one reads or comments on it? But then someone will comment on how I have helped or inspired them and the rewarding part of being a blogger kicks in.
There is also a part of being a bee that is a bit weird for me, too. Part of what rocks about being a bee is that we are all down to earth, fun lovin’, everyday brides. I am just a girl who marches to the beat of her own drummer, just like many of the other bees.

This is what I use for almost everything I do. I always feel that I’m doing a better job when nobody is watching me or paying attention. Here are some examples.
Dance as if no one is watching.
Sing as if no one is listening.
Write as if no one was reading.
Writing as if nobody will read my posts is what helps me write freer and with my own voice. Obviously, I know people are reading and commenting, but when I sit down at my laptop I zone everything out and just let the words flow. Read more…
Mrs. Knitting, TorontoAge and Occupation: 24, Student Recruitment Assistant
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Neuroscience PhD CandidateEngagement Date: October 2009Wedding Date: December 2010Venue: University of Toronto Faculty Club
About Me: I'm a pearl wearing, etiquette book reading Toronto girl who loves cooking and baking, museums, charm bracelets, and collecting books on Jackie Kennedy (a lot). I've been known to spend Sunday mornings at the antique market, Wednesday evenings at sister sushi dinners, and any bit of spare time reading. After six and a half years of many late night walks, watching DVDs together in bed, travelling to places like New York, and Tobermory, doing Sudokus together on the couch, lots of Indian food, the occasional yoga class, moving in together and so much more, Mr. Knitting and I are planning a cozy Christmasy (it's a word!), vintage wedding in Toronto complete with many DIY projects (eek!) and lots of help from our amazing group of family and friends.
I actually don’t really remember. Shortly after we got engaged I became a little obsessed with wedding blogs and I think I found Weddingbee from a link from another blog (maybe Martha?). I read it for a bit, but I lost interest around the holidays (what’s wrong with me?). However, in January 2010 I became a WB fanatic and pretty much read every single post every day.
My Application
I didn’t know anything about blogging when I decided I wanted to apply, but I figured that was no reason to stop me! I’m definitely one of the bees who only started a wedding blog so that I could be a bee. I also didn’t tell anyone I was applying for Weddingbee, except for Mr. Knitting.
I’m really glad that I didn’t know that some bees put together really fancy high tech applications because mine was definitely a very straightforward 7 page Word document without a single colour, illustration, or picture to be found. My blog had lots of pictures, but my application was very boring looking. I sent my application in a week before I technically should of (after reading that Mrs. Cupcake sent hers in way before!). About 4 weeks later, while I was in Amsterdam on an amazing trip with a friend, I got an email from Mrs. Penguin offering me a place as a bee. I was so excited, but also a bit sad that I would have to wait a whole month until I got back to Canada before actually starting to blog!

I've been crafty for as long as I can remember, and will DIY something twice over before I have someone do it for me. I'm a semi-awkward, typeface obsessed, design junkie and have been know to break out my dance moves for no reason as well as try my best to be ridiculous at all times. My love of pop culture, wordplay, and graph paper almost rivals my love of Mr. Giraffe (who is just the bee's knees). After a 2.5 year engagement, we're planning a modern-in-disguise traditional wedding, and cannot wait!
I remember reading the Becoming a Bee Series way back when, and crossing my fingers that maybe in like, oh, eight years or so I would get to write one too*. Now, I’m like dance-party excited because I get to share my story with you! I encourage you guys to read the archived posts because they’re so interesting and fun. They’re a great way to get to know the bees better.

How did I find Weddingbee?
About a month before Mr. Giraffe and I got engaged, my head was all ready dreaming up our wedding. I knew he asked my parents, he and I had talked about getting married, and well, I suspected he had gone ring shopping.
See, I needed to know more about weddings because I was starting to obsess about them. It was a closet obsession though, because I surely wasn’t going to buy a wedding magazine if I wasn’t engaged! What did I do? Read more…
