I might be a little obsessed capturing those Kodak moments of anything and everything (mainly on vacations). I've become more of a gamer thanks to Mr. Elephant, who I met online and can't wait to spend the rest of my life with. We are planning a wedding based on our favorite colors, blue and green, with a travel theme for 150 of our closest friends and family. Hopefully our long (2-year) engagement won't kill me!
Keepin’ this series alive! It helped me out, so hopefully I can return the favor for another reader.
How I found Weddingbee:
I actually stumbled across the ‘bee back in 2009 thanks to a bride on the Dallas Knot boards who posted about her feature in Real Weddings. I started reading and could not stop! I read all that I could: archives, current bee blogs, the boards. I was so fascinated with all the bees (although it took me a little bit to figure out exactly what those icons meant) and the community I decided to join in on the fun times.
Applying to Weddingbee:
Truth be told, I was not a huge blogger. In fact, I had never really heard of or read blogs until the ‘Bee (with the exception of one friend who kept a live journal back in college). Once I caught onto this site, I thought that it would be so amazing to blog for it. I started my own blog to keep my out of town bridesmaids up to date on the wedding plans, but secretly with the intent to apply for Weddingbee in the back of my head. Our engagement was long, so I blogged for a good 13 months before I hit that magical eight month mark—the earliest you can apply.
Mrs. Barrettes, Tumon, Guam/Napa, CAAge and Occupation: 29, DancerFiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Licensed Building ContractorEngagement Date: November 16, 2008Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: V. Sattui WineryAbout Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!
When I became engaged, a fashion-forward and lifelong New Yorker friend of mine suggested I check out a site called Weddingbee, where she had spent a lot of time finding inspiration for her wedding. I’d always admired her style, so I figured she was on to something! I don’t remember when it was that I actually clicked on the site, but I do remember Mrs. Espresso starting her recaps and being obsessed with her mountain wedding details.
What is your application story?
I started blogging under the title, The Breezy Bride as a way to stay in touch with my family and friends in the States about my journey into the white dress. I was so far away and felt like I needed to get all my wedding ideas and feelings out, without bothering my co-workers, who were uninterested. I was a bridal-blog junkie. I was still following Weddingbee, and really liked the Crafts generation as they were introduced. I was over 1 year to our wedding, and I wasn’t doing any DIY projects or dress shopping, so I tried to find my bridal style. In the beginning there are just so many options! My inspiration stage was very long.
When the 8-month mark finally rolled around, I decided to apply to be a blogger. Read more…

We are marrying in a Catholic ceremony and are hammering out the details of our Victorian-inspired reception.
::Cough:: During work ::Cough:: I had been on a planning break for a few months after hiring the DJ and finding the venue. I decided to start looking for dresses in order to excite myself into the next phase of planning. I’m not sure what I typed in google but I came across this post from Mrs. Bee. I had really low expectations of the wedding industry at the time because quite frankly I was ignorant. Once I saw the post I thought; great, a website that tells it like it is! I can really say the rest is history. I have excitedly read every single post written since July of 2009—and some of the archives.
Applying to the Bee:
I had a blog in high school that I stupidly wrote in as if no one was reading. A girl took my words out of context and taped them up around school. I made a ton of enemies in a matter of minutes. Needless to say I quit blogging and became a bit of a recluse. Zeb, only my friend at that time, was a huge support and shoulder to cry on during the ordeal. A few weeks later, we began dating.

I couldn't live without thrift store shopping, cheeseburgers, sushi, Coke Zero, websites devoted to silly photos of baby animals, Photoshop, and Mr. Sloth. Speaking of which, he and I are a pair of goofball homebody nerds who love our beagle (the most ridiculously adorable dog EVER) to an embarrassing degree. We're planning a low-key and intimate yet festive and quirky outdoor wedding with DIY details and deeply personal touches, and it's all taking place in the city where we fell in love and call home: Philadelphia.
I’m so excited that we’re bringing back the A Bee’s Life series, and that I can share my experiences with the hive.
How did I find Weddingbee?
Long before I was even engaged, I found the blog A Backyard Wedding during a Google search for some crafting instructions. Although I wasn’t planning a wedding, I loved the DIY aspect of the blog and when Mr. S and I finally did get engaged, I started reading it again. I also checked out her blogroll, and lo and behold, she linked to Weddingbee.
Now, for the sake of full disclosure, I’ll be perfectly honest: I wasn’t a huge Weddingbee fan at first. I didn’t have any specific problem with the site, but I had a hard time identifying with the bloggers at first. I don’t know what I was smoking back then, because after a few months, I came back to the site and fell in love! My theory is that, when I first discovered the ’Bee, I wasn’t all about weddings yet. When I started really getting into planning, I found that the site was so helpful! So positive! Such a great resource for regular people.

I figured I’d throw my hat into the ring for this series since I remember when I was a reader, I always enjoyed hearing about the process of becoming a bee…plus, I don’t have too much longer around these parts (SOB!) so I’m overstaying my welcome as long as I can…
Alrighty then, first things first: How did I find Weddingbee?
Let’s see, I got engaged in March 2009 and jumped right into planning mode, despite the fact that our wedding wasn’t going to be until summer of 2010. I hit up The Knot and Martha Stewart for inspiration but my greedy bride-to-be self wasn’t satisfied with just those two. I wanted more, more, more!
So, I Googled. I literally Googled “Wedding Blog” and whaddya know? Weddingbee was the first one that came up. I didn’t really understand how it worked at first (the monikers really threw me for a loop) but it was Mrs Peep Toe’s beautiful San Francisco wedding that really drew me in and from then on, I was hooked. And by hooked, I mean rabidly obsessed. Read more…

A South Asian Jewish girl getting ready to marry my handsome Catholic Dane, I'm hoping to blend our cultures in our wedding just a bit more gently than by providing samosas as appetizers and offering æbleskiver for dessert. (Although that would also be awesome.)
I’ve been wanting to write A Bee’s Life post pretty much since I became a bee, so it seems appropriate that I should finish my tenure here with my contribution to this series.
How did I find Weddingbee?
A few months after getting engaged, I started to think more about the cultural traditions that I hoped to incorporate into our wedding. You already know I had a non-traditional mehndi, but you have to know the rules to break them! So I did some Googling on mehndis and came across this archived post by Mrs. Jasmine. Jasmine and I go way back—to high school and college, so when I saw her picture on the blog, I got curious! (Fun fact: when I saw her picture and occupation on the side of the blog, I thought an impostor blogger was pretending to be Jasmine. Who knew I was so suspicious?!) I read through a few of her posts and some of the newer bloggers’ posts, and got hooked!
Before finding Weddingbee I garnered most of my wedding inspiration from sites like Style Me Pretty and Green Wedding Shoes, which I still love. Our wedding had a different aesthetic, though, and seeing the great variety of bloggers here made Weddingbee my go-to site pretty quickly.

I love wine, cooking, curling up with a good book (nerd alert!), spoiling the furbaby, and of course, the wonderful Mr. Buttons! We are planning a lighthearted and whimsical wedding (with a good deal of DIY projects) in Clearwater, Florida, but from a distance of 800 miles away! We are looking forward to sharing our day with our family and friends, and most importantly, starting our lives together as husband and wife!
How I found the hive (or rather, how the hive found me):
In the summer of 2009, I was newly engaged and eager to start planning my wedding. Of course, I had accumulated about 40 wedding magazines, was researching local vendors, and…I was searching the Internet for inspiration. I had just started a Twitter account, and one day I happened to see a Tweet from the lovely Mrs. Penguin! She was soliciting for new applications to blog for Weddingbee, and the icons were absolutely adorable! The funny thing is, the first thing that popped into my head was to tell one of my other soon-to-be bride friends from college about the site (which I did). I didn’t think much about blogging at that point, but I quickly subscribed to the site and became pretty active on the boards. Life was good.
My application story:
After joining in on the boards for a few months and starting to dive headfirst in reading the blogs (I was reading them all…archives, current bees, you name it!), it got me thinking…why the heck can’t I start a blog? I have always loved to write, and since my friends and family were not around to share every wedding-related detail with, it seemed like a great outlet to let them in on my planning! So…I did it. I started a free blog and began writing about all of my experiences.

I heart cooking, sewing, baking, decorating and making sure we have a hand-crafted home. The best part about the wedding is I get to incorporate it all! I make sure I put my art degree to good use by screen printing, craft knife cutting, and a whole lotta graphic design. We're having a big-time party on a small-time budget, and I promise to show you a boot-scootin', barbecue-eatin', finger-lickin' good time! Mr. Sand Dollar and I spend most of our time on DIY projects or traipsing around the outdoors with our two pooches Rory and Juno. I'm looking forward to sharing our journey with all of you!
I stumbled across Weddingbee in 2007 and backtracked all the way to the beginning. I followed Lemon, Lovebug (still a fave!), Peony, and Sweet Pea. I adored each post and couldn’t wait for more. I was inspired to DIY everything and learned that a wedding is what you make it, not what vendors tell you to buy.
My application story.
My winning application was my third try. I had applied once during my first engagement (which I talked about earlier), but my blogging style really wasn’t refined enough yet. My second time was just after I got engaged to Mr. SD this January, and I didn’t have enough posts. Finally, I just decided to blog for myself and chronicle all the DIY for my wedding, house, and graphic design biz. I decided to apply again in June, after five solid months of content. I was completely floored when I got my acceptance letter! I’m still pinching myself and am super glad that the hive is even better than I could have expected. Read more…

Oh man I’m sad and I haven’t even really started this post.
So hive, now that I’m at the end of my Weddingbee journey, maybe you’d like to hear how I got here and what I think of this whole operation? Oh you do? Please read on. Oh you don’t? Meh.
How I found Weddingbee:
I was searching for NYC makeup artists long before it was necessary for me to even think of having a trial (like, summer of 2008 for my March 2010 wedding—before we, um, picked a California venue), and I came upon posts by Mrs. Peony and Mrs. Canary. When I clicked to see the next posts, it was a post from another character. What the…? I was confused and slightly ticked off.
It took a few times circling back to Weddingbee to figure out the site, but once as I did, I was absolutely hooked. I distinctly remember becoming a consistent reader in October 2008, and like many of you, pored over every bee and the archives to see what I had been missing!

I know the big chunk of A Bee’s Life posts happened quite a few months ago, but I loved this series when I was a WB reader, and I just really wanted to write one myself! Here goes nothing…
My history with blogs:
I have always loved to write, ever since I was very, very little, and I’ve been into blogs for a long, loooooong time. I started my first-ever blog when I was maybe fifteen or so, using the site DiaryLand. It was really popular at the time (and was totally intended for teenage girls like myself… the website was decked out in pastel colors and daisies and kittens), but has now been far eclipsed by Blogger and WordPress and whatnot. I loved blogging even way back then, and made “blog friends” with a bunch of other teenage girls (and one boy) who also had sites there. I found it really rewarding and fun.
That doesn’t mean I wasn’t super-dumb about it, though.

I don't do well with surprises. I love planning, crafting, Newport RI, family and friends, and most importantly, Mr. Starfish---all of which will be big components in our October wedding in our favorite little city by the sea.
How did I find Weddingbee?
Right after Mr. Starfish proposed, I turned to the internet to start researching. I was trying to find as much information as possible on a Newport wedding and I stumbled across Mrs. Corn’s blog on Weddingbee. It was the first time I had read a wedding blog and I was hooked! It took me a while to figure out the site, but soon I was learning about the wonderful world of DIY, terms like MIL, BIL, and the likes, amazing stores like Paper Source, and most importantly, I found a place that was had an awesome and welcoming community.
My application Story:
As soon as I found Weddingbee, I pretty much started my own blog. I thought it would be a fun way to document the experience and share fun ideas. We have had a pretty long engagement—two years, to be exact. So after 16 months of blogging I was deciding whether or not to apply. It was the eight month mark—the earliest you can apply, and I was debating on whether or not to send in the application. Then I heard the Sea Creature Generation was coming out and I knew I had to apply. I always hoped if I were a bee that I’d get to be Miss Starfish.
I sent in my application and was expecting I wouldn’t hear for a while. I heard it can take a while to hear back, since they get so many applications. I was so excited when I got my acceptance email from Pengy! It seemed pretty sudden and I wasn’t expecting the yes. The Sea Creatures weren’t even out yet! I had my first bridezilla moment and asked Pengy if I could hold off on being announced after the Sea Creatures came out. Then Mr. Starfish came home and took me out to celebrate. I was so excited when the new generation came out and Starfish was an option!
Why Blog?

I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.
I’m not very good at public speaking, but I guess I’ll just jump right in.
How did I find Weddingbee?
I am an official venue stalker, just like Miss Cola, and on one of the many venue-stalking days I was Googling my little heart out and I came across this girl named Mrs. Apple. What? So I clicked and realized that there were so many posts about her wedding, and it all took place at our venue. Score!! And then I realized that not only was Mrs. Apple a Weddingbee blogger, but so were a lot of other awesome girls. I was officially hooked. But, although I went to Weddingbee daily and clicked refresh more times than I care to admit, I was not a girl that commented often. Entering a blog community is overwhelming, and I was just a little scared to take the plunge and comment.

It’s going to be a Norfolk flavored wedding with the verve of an only-daughter-blow-out bash!
I’ve been following this thread and with some of the stories of applicants and questions, I thought it would be the perfect time to share my story.
How did I find Weddingbee?
I’ve mentioned my friend, the Part-Time Happy Homemaker, in a few of my posts. Christine was the first person to suggest that I look at Weddingbee. My reaction was, “Wedding what?” Oh, poor, little, ignorant soul. She had compassion on me until I saw the light. The first couple of visits, I thought it was a nice blog, but I didn’t get what a bee was or why there were so many. Then it all came together for me when I realized it updated throughout the day! I started following Bruschetta and Beagle. I loved the writing, wedding, and DIY styles that the bees possessed. About 4 weeks after finding the website, I was convinced I wanted to blog here as well. I’ve been blogging since high school (back when Blogger was new!). I loved to write, but had been caught up in writing only work related government documents. I was really ready to pursue writing about more personal things, and the wedding was the perfect focus.

Then I followed my beau out here to LA and we're getting settled in. I've been making things since I can remember. I was raised by crafters. I love to sew, draw, paint, build, cook, bake (anything with a tangible end result is fair game). In that same spirit, I've been hosting since I was old enough to cook and set a fancy table. I kind of take after my grandmother, who believes that your morning OJ always tastes better out of the good crystal.
I’d been hearing about blogs for a few years and had read a few, but I definitely wasn’t a real member of the community. I then started a small blog to keep in touch with my family after I moved away to Seattle. I didn’t update it regularly or do much with it other than use it as a Christmas letter. Instead of sending out a letter, I sent out Christmas cards with a web address on them and then filled a blog with the year’s big events and lots of pictures (gotta keep their interest). Most of the people in the family liked that, but Mr. Moonbeam’s parents insisted we still send out letters for those that are less web savvy. Most of the people in my family live close enough to someone that can show them the website, so I didn’t have to worry. After that, I started a blog about some of the things I made here and there, but with no large project looming; it just sort of languished. Then we decided to get married and I got sucked in. There are so many great blogs out there and Weddingbee had so much content. New ideas every day, of things I just had to do that would get weird looks from people I was talking to about them. “What, you didn’t know that all brides these days wear crazy candy colored shoes?”
Weddingbee, specifically has meant so much to me. Since leaving my friends, great apartment, beautiful neighborhood and fantastic job in Seattle, LA has hit me kind of hard. Read more…

Better late than never, right? Here goes my story!
How I found Weddingbee
This is a pretty interesting story, actually! Mrs. Apple Cider and my MOH/older sister work together! My sister sent me Mrs. Apple Cider’s blog with a note: “I work with her! She has the cutest ideas!” I was immediately obsessed with her blog and read every single entry retroactively. Then one day I read her ecstatic post on being accepted as a bee and I wondered what in the world she was talking about. The rest is history!
How I became a Weddingbee blogger
Life is funny. A couple of months before I applied to be a wedding blogger, Mr. Chick and I had just gotten back from a trip to Italy. We went to Rome and Tuscany for about two weeks. When I got back, I had an intense Italy-lovin’ bug and I wanted to remember every second of the trip. It was the first trip that I really, really planned. Usually I loosely plan our trips (as in, I book hotels and look for 3 or 4 things to do while we are there). But for this trip, I planned every minute of it. I blame Google Docs. Anyway, I wanted to have a photo and text journal, and thought blogging was the perfect way to preserve my memories and to share with others. Here is the blog if you would like to see it. A couple of months later, I went home to help my parents move from New Jersey to Taiwan. In the process, I found my eighth and ninth grade journal. Hilarity ensued while reading it, and my sister insisted that I transcribe the journal, in blog form. I guess you can say I had/have blog fever!
Long story short, I started with a couple of binders and divider pages of inspirational photos for our wedding, then quickly realized I was using up a lot of ink and paper printing from the interwebs. Read more…
