Here we are, 8 years later, living in Pittsburgh, planning a "homestination" wedding in the place our school romance began---Johnstown, PA. I thrive on talking a mile a minute, eating my weight in chocolate, and internet shopping. I love a lengthy to-do list almost as much as I love a healthy amount of chaos in my life. Mr. Snow Cone and I watch countless episodes of Friends and The West Wing on repeat, root for rival college sports teams, and make each other laugh each and every day. We’re putting together a small-town wedding with a big personality and a classically modern (or modernly classic?) look for 250 of our closest family and friends. It’s been 8+ years in the making, and sometimes I still can’t believe I’m finally getting to marry my high school sweetheart!
This past weekend was a complete and total blur, but for all the right reasons. You see, I decided to take advantage of the long holiday weekend by having both my bridal shower and my bachelorette party in one extravaganza of a weekend. I’ll share a bit about both, so here’s the info on the shower!
A few weeks back, I was greeted by this lovely piece of mail:

I completely loved the entire look of the shower invitation, but there was one part that particularly warmed my heart… Read more…

This is a most appropriate title for this post, because my bridal shower was colorful.
See?
There’s nothing I love more than bright, vibrant colors… and that’s exactly what I got when I walked through the doors of my shower last Saturday. I was in love.

I swear this is the last post about my shower. But I couldn’t not tell you about some awesome gifts I got, and gave (erm…I hope they thought they were awesome!). Also…embedded in this post is the number one all time tip to making your relationship last. I know. It’s gonna be amazing!!!
I got a boatload of sweet gifts, y’all. I mean, I guess I know in theory that that is what a shower is for, but man, I was feeling really overwhelmed with new stuff…in a good way! Mr. Magic’s Mum got us the:

I gave you the details in my last post on how I was showered with awesomeness via a lovely kitchen themed shower. The decor was really lovely and thoughtful, and that alone made me feel super special. But, there was even more! We played several different games…some people aren’t into bridal shower games, but I think they are fun! For a group of women who haven’t all met, games are a great way to get to know each other and break the ice.
Match the Couple Game
The 3 Peas (my aunts and step mom) started everyone out with a game I had never seen before. There were two sets of photos laid out on the table. In the first set were photos of couples on their wedding day…in the second set were the same couples’ photos on their 50th anniversary. The game is to decide which couples match up. It was really tough!

I really love throwing parties and hosting cookouts. I’m kinda the go-to girl for organizing events amongst our group of friends, and that’s totally fine with me because I really enjoy it! I love deciding on what food and drinks to have, making the place look nice and festive, and getting a bunch of people together for a good time. But…I also really enjoy it when someone else plans a party for me and all I have to do is show up! Especially when it turns out to be an awesome bridal shower full of family and friends, games, yummy food, and good times.
The hostesses with the mostest-es (eh?) were my step mom and two aunts, hereafter referred to as The 3 Peas.
My future MIL was gracious enough to lend us her home as the party location too!

That’s why the mister and I bought a 1950s house on a charming street not too far from our childhood stompin’ grounds. This could also be the reason why our hometown is the scene where we are planning our super sweet, totally charming, BBQ-for-supper wedding that I never knew I always wanted. I DIE over DIY projects and live for vintage, heartfelt inspiration. I obsess over all things mid-century (from forks to furniture). Love is… cartoons and flea markets, and I am known to whip up a mean banana cream pie. I met the Mr. in grade school and after that boy took me for a spin on the handle bars of his BMX, I knew that things would never be the same again. Besides lovin’ my Mr., I also love to plan, sew and create, and that’s just what I’m doing as I navigate through the details, creating a laid-back day that oozes charm; one that will go down in (at least our) history as the Best. Day. Of all time.
I am a closet control freak. Or as I’d like to call it, “hands on.”
I have tried to relinquish the reins of life, but planning a wedding just isn’t the time or place to do it. I count myself pretty lucky that those around me can go with my flow. This includes taking part in stenciling homemade napkins…

I’m a giver—especially when it comes to gifts. Being one of the people who likes to give presents rather than get them, I love thinking of what could wow when it comes to everything from birthdays to holidays—and especially showers.
When I got invited to the baby shower of the wife of Cousin Sweet Cream, who is one of the few and the proud, I ran around searching for Marine camo fabric to whip up a complete outfit, including a onsie, bib, booties, and burp pad.

As an honors graduate fallen victim to the worst job market in history in my area, we're doing everything we can to still have the wedding of our dreams on a tighter budget. I currently enjoy working at a winery, but I'm lonnng overdue for a day job! I am: a big-time daydreamer, one of the pickiest eaters you'll ever meet, and a lover of pretty paper and awesome fonts. I also enjoy singing in the car, boating, going to concerts, the History Channel, carnival food, and going to watch St. Louis Cardinals baseball with my handsome engineer.
My bridal shower is Sunday and I’m super excited, but also pretty nervous.
I feel so lucky that I have an awesome Matron of Honor hosting it for me in her lovely backyard and I can’t wait to spend the day with my favorite girls. At the same time, however, my happy thoughts about the day have been mixed with nervousness over a few issues that keep floating into my mind. Read more…

Like the steadiness act of the tightrope walker, this gal is busy balancing life while planning a wedding to the man of her dreams. We’re hosting a laid-back, vintage-inspired, bird themed wedding with heavy doses of love, good eats (did someone say tacos and margaritas?), and endless Texas charm. Mr. High Wire and I are so happy to have you along for the walk across the tight rope.
First off, this isn’t going to have anything to do with hygiene. Mr. High Wire gets an A+ in that department already.
We’re talking about the other kind of showers—the ones that involve “showering” the bride with gifts before the wedding.
Nowadays, showers aren’t only for the bride. In bridal-shower history, the shower was in place as an alternative to the dowry that was offered along with the bride to the groom. But that is most likely not the case for very many marriages in our circles anymore.
Grooms deserve a little celebrations in their honor! Three cheers for equality. :) Here are some different ways to involve the groom during shower season.
Tool Party
This can be an event specifically for the groom where guests bring gifts like power tools, lawn and garden supplies, etc.

About three weeks before the wedding, I was lucky enough to have a second shower, co-hosted by Hyena Sis and a family friend of Mr. Hyena’s, Mrs. W. This time I remembered to take pictures. Most of the ladies in my family came, plus MIL Hyena and several other family friends.
We planned for it to be over lunch, and Mrs. W created an absolutely beautiful spread!

We recently held a low-key couple’s shower for our dear friends M and J who will wed this coming weekend. Our lovely friend A co-hosted with us and helped me plan and execute our Fiesta themed stock the bar party. This was actually the first shower I’ve ever planned and thrown (outside of assisting with my very own bridal tea) and I was pleased as (sangria) punch that it came together so smoothly.

Luckily, I got one! At the beginning of April, Mr. Hyena’s Aunt C and cousins threw me a brunch bridal shower, and it was so much fun!
(Aaaand I was a bad blogger and didn’t take any pictures…sorry, guys! All the pictures in this post are courtesy of FSIL Hyena.)
“Bride to Be” beads were placed around my neck, and it was time to get the party started! Aunt C had created this wonderful brunch spread, and we nommed on delicious “cowboy biscuits,” fruit, croissants, and banana bread. We drank mock bellinis and talked all things wedding, and Mr. Hyena’s aunts told stories from their weddings as well!
As a new member of the family, I was gifted a photo-album “cookbook” and each of the ladies had provided a few of their favorite family recipes to go inside it! (Sopapilla cheesecake! Strawberry-spinach salad! So much fantastic fooood!) Mr. H will never go hungry.
