Hive, it’s been just over a year since I started writing for you. I’m now just eight months into my marriage and it’s time to say goodbye. I leave you with one last photo from our engagement shoot—no props, no makeup/hair stylist, no big veil or dress. Just me, Mr. Lobster, and Buddy.
I’ve had an absolute blast sharing our wedding with you from start to finish. Read more…

What are we going to do with it? Heavy D. and the Boyz certainly ask some thought-provoking questions.
Well, hive, this is the last wedding-related post. As people trickled out after saying goodbye, I honestly could not believe that was it. After a year’s worth of planning, our wedding day had come and gone.

We did not do a formal send-off and had to settle a few miscellaneous things with the venue before leaving (e.g., gimme those leftovers so I can eat them in the car). By the time we were ready to leave the venue, I didn’t want to go. They had to shove me into the car (and especially with my poofy dress). Read more…

Now that we finished all the “formal” events, it’s time to par-TAY!
The Ernest Mills Band from Hank Lane Music was our band and we got tremendously good feedback on them. Their energy really got the crowd all riled up and the party started!
One minor thing to consider during your wedding planning: if your guest list leans more toward the non-dancing type, consider asking your venue for a smaller dance floor so it will feel more intimate and less intimidating to the guests who do join you. Our dance floor was sized appropriately for our guest list but we had a decent mix of an older non-dancing crowd so sometimes it felt a little lonely dancing out there, just me and the band. Haha. OK. Back to the photos.

It’s glamour shots for our cake. Hi, pretty girl. This is “shimmering quilt fondant” cake with sugar anemones. She’s made of vanilla cake with layers of lemon butter cream and raspberry curd.

As you saw previously, I had a last minute practice with my dad. Initially, I wanted to just wing it. But he wouldn’t have it. My dad has taken some ballroom dancing with my mom so a few days before the wedding, he came over and choreographed a whole dance. He even taught me how to ballroom dance using a 1970s dancing DVD (which was pretty hilarious). In the end, I’m glad we did this because it involved my dad in the wedding process as well as allowed us to have that one special memory together.

Speech! Speech! I have to admit, it makes me uncomfortable being the center of attention and especially having people talk about me when I have no idea what they’re going to say. This can be a problem on say, your wedding day! Still, I was touched by the thoughts our parents, my sisters, and Mr. Lobster’s best man shared with us that night. It made us feel so loved and cared for by our family and friends.

We interrupt these Lobster recaps for a few photos of the reception to set the mood. Our reception hall during set-up. You can see the tealight candles on the window ledges.
Centerpieces by the amazing Jeannie at Atlas Floral Decorators. We chose a garden arrangement with light colors similar from my bouquet—pinks, purples, blush, with green—in a silver pedestal vase, surrounded by three goblets with floating candles. At the last minute, we added amber uplighting which you can sort of see on the far columns. This really made the room feel romantical and warm. Read more…

With our guests riled up from cocktail hour, they headed to the top floor. The sun had set, and you could clearly see the New York City skyline in the distance. Tealight candles and amber lighting warmed the room. Mr. Lobster and I were introduced as an officially married couple as we led ourselves onto the dance floor for our first dance. I held it (the tears) together during the pre-ceremony and ceremony. As luck would have it, I burst into tears on the dance floor. Was it because I’m such a bad dancer? Maybe.
Mostly, I was overwhelmed with emotion from the whole day and finally let it all go as I heard our band play the first dance song, Always and Forever by Luther Vandross. Read more…

While the guests were distracted by cocktail hour, Mr. Lobster and I sneaked away for a few moments alone in the bridal suite, something I’d highly recommend if you can. Up until now, we didn’t really have any true moments alone alone. In the suite, we found this deliciousness waiting for us.
That would be a sampling of the cocktail hour fare. I quickly scarfed it down since I barely had a bite since breakfast. Nom, nom.

After knowing each other for four years, a year-long engagement, and months of planning, Mr. Lobster and I were finally tying the knot.
Father Mark officiated the ceremony. We had met him through Mr. Lobster’s parents and had gotten to know each other through pre-marital sessions. It was nice to have someone we considered a new friend to marry us. Read more…

I stood there with my dad, watching the bridal party walk out ahead of us. My favorite song from the processional was Debussy’s Clair de Lune on the piano. The classical song was light and airy, perfect to ease us into the warm summer evening.

I scheduled some “down time” between the photo shoot and ceremony for a second rehearsal, family portraits, and general relaxation. When we got to the venue, the security guard looked at us in the bus skeptically. The venue is part of a large studio lot with just one building that had only *one* wedding on the day we were there. I’m wearing a big poofy white dress. Let me in already. We finally got in and I felt like a kid in a candy store (OK it wasn’t *that* exciting) randomly roaming around the venue knowing I could go anywhere with the big white dress.
in flippity flops, sipping on some water
Funnily enough, this is the part of the day I felt most out of control.

Mr. Lobster and I rented a bus to drive us to our photo shoot location and venue. It was the easiest way to keep everyone together without giving people directions, carpooling, etc. With the bridal party, my parents, photographers and videographer, we had 18 people!

After Mr. Lobster and I reunited, it was time to reunite with our puppy for a few photos. This is one of my absolute favorite photos from the whole wedding. Is it bad that Mr. Lobster isn’t in it? Shh, please don’t tell.
Look at his cute rental bow tie! We lost it within the first few minutes but it was nice while it lasted. You can tell now that the day was pretty warm since Buddy is panting in a few of these shots. These photos were taken in Rockefeller Park in Battery Park City. Read more…

I gave Mr. Lobster a VERY strict schedule made in 15 minute increments. So of course, I was late (but in the wise words of Bobby Brown, it’s my prerogative).
But Mr. Lobster waited patiently for me: Read more…
