About Me: It's not who I am underneath, but what I do, that defines me (cheesy Batman reference). I'm a Pakistani-American who lives his life as a nerdy scientist by day, and a nerdy artist by night. According to many, I'm as "metro" as they come, and that's probably why I'm so interested in all this wedding business. Honestly, I've become a bit of a "groomzilla". I'm here to prove that we, as grooms, actually can work a Gocco, plan a wedding meal, create breathtaking centerpieces, and rock a dress, just as good as my female counterparts (well maybe not the last one).

What can I say? I’m a sucker for cake, with the exception of carrot, because it my firm belief that vegetables and sugar were never meant to be mixed together, and I might go as far as to say that the combination may be a violation of one of the laws of nature. However, I have to admit that my palette for cakes and pastries may not be as refined as my female counterparts here on WB. That’s right. I love cheap cake mixes and the frosting that comes in cans.

About Me: I’m a total wonkette who is lucky enough to be surrounded by her favorite things on a daily basis – awesome music, the great State of Texas and of course, Mr. Lemonade! I find any excuse I can to craft something and am completely infatuated with the 1950’s, all things Kennedy, and my furbaby Vida.
nom nom nom!
Now, I know I’ve already committed to a crazy fondant groom’s cake, a delicious cheesecake buffet, a bundt cake for my cake pull, and a traditional bride’s cake! Whew! That’s a lot of sugar! That being said, Mr. Lemonade and I also have a great love of cupcakes. Now, we’re not talking any old cakes. Ours have to be cupcakes from Hey Cupcake here in Austin.

Mrs. Flamingo, Montreal, Canada
Age and Occupation: 25, Graphic Designer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Nursing Student
Engagement Date: December 2004
Wedding Date: June 21, 2008
Venue: Imperia Hotel (modern chic hotel)
About Me: I am a passionate designer who loves anything pretty. I heart all paper products (eco-friendly of course). My passion revolves around anything considered glamour; vintage and modern. In my free time, I love reading Martha mags, designing jewelry and making a pit-stop at Starbucks for a chai latte. I'm also a chocoholic at heart and my family drools over my homemade truffles.
Our wedding cake was so beautiful! It was literally a show stopper, or should I say a conversation starter. All our guests commented on how unique and glamorous it was, and it made me extremely happy to know that people actually paid attention. We wanted something unique, and thanks to all you readers, we finally had the perfect balance of brown, ivory and design.

For our cake topper, we used a vintage crystal glass that my step-mother had, and used the remaining arylic crystals that we used for our escort cards. I put a tealight candle in the glass so that way at night our cake would have its own mini chandelier.

Venue: Catholic church ceremony & golf course reception
About Me: I grew up in the Deep South, and while most people say I have a thick southern accent, I tend to think it only comes out when I need to use it. Living in Las Vegas has definitely been an adventure and Mr. Dumpling and I are loving every minute of it! We are planning a traditional Catholic wedding ceremony and a reception with lots of DIY! We might even get Elvis to show up! I'm a HUGE Beatles fan, love The Office and can't wait to become a Mrs.!
I absolutely adore cake, and I would eat it for every meal if I could (shh! Don’t tell the South Beach Diet people!), but we won’t be having one at our wedding. Sigh.
When we first started looking at wedding cakes, I got so excited thinking about all of the possibilities out there. Chocolate raspberry? Yes! Carrot Cake? Mmm hmm! A different flavor for every tier? Okay! We even found a baker we liked, so we sent her a picture of our dream cake, along with our budget, and she responded that it was all definitely doable. So, we had a cake tasting and we were thrilled! The cakes were delicious!

Here’s the dream cake photo we showed the baker. Photo from The Knot.

Miss Champagne, DC/Vail/Colorado

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Attorney
Engagement Date: March 13, 2006
Wedding Date: February 2009
Blogging Since: July 30, 2008
Venue: Small church ceremony with mountain-view log cabin reception
About Me: I'm a small town mountain girl with a city heart. Found my way to the east coast, and Mr. Champagne kept me here so we're planning a wedding from afar in my hometown Vail, Colorado. I'm secretly obsessed with reality TV, Wii games where I can shoot a gun, country music, and Caesar: Dog Whisperer. I also spend time pretending to golf, backseat driving, having one way conversations with our MinPin Maxwell, loving champagne, and wedding perfecting… I mean, planning. I use way too many repeated symbols and letters when I write, and I'll love Mr. Champagne endlessly…
If there’s one accessory or detail we haven’t really thought about, it’s probably the cake topper. I guess we never considered having one until I saw how much variation in toppers there are these days. From clay custom models to adorable little birds, there really is a style for every couple.
We’ll start with the classic monogram and script cake toppers:

I love sugar. Seriously. I absolutely love it. There is rarely an evening that passes that I don’t ask Mr. Lemonade to take me out for ice cream (and he almost always obliges). Thus, wedding cake decisions are VERY important to us. And not just wedding cake. We plan on doing it up right for our guests that might happen to have a sweet tooth like I do.
At first, we figured we’d do the requisite candy buffet that is so popular right now. However, Mr. Lemonade really doesn’t like candy and it is his wedding as much as it is mine. What he does like is cheesecake.
How much fun would a cheesecake buffet be? I actually found a photo of one a while ago on the Knot (I think… if it’s yours, let me know and I’ll credit you or have it removed).

One of my favorite southern wedding traditions is the cake pull. I plan on having mine at my ladies’ tea the day before our wedding and think it’s going to be so much fun!

About Me: I'm a silly mess of a girl who, above all else in this world, LOVES the Spice Girls. I eat sushi at least 3 times a week, and feel guilty about how much it costs the other 4 days a week. I love designer jeans and cheap accessories. I don't like sweets, but I love the UCLA Bruins!
Our groom’s cake was one detail I simply could not just gloss over! Groom’s cakes are a less heard of wedding detail here in California. I’d never even heard of the concept until I started reading Weddingbee, and I didn’t think much of it until I started thinking about how much Mr. Penguin would appreciate his own groom’s cake. I had asked our bride’s cake baker if she would think about whipping up a second “themed” cake for us, and she agreed with hesitation, as she typically makes normal, tiered cakes. I didn’t want to push her limits, so I eventually gave up on the idea, until I met Lien from the Crazy Cake Company. At the time, Lien was new on the cake scene here in the Sacramento area (she’s based out of Davis) but her portfolio was impressive and I knew I had to give her a try!

About Me: I never thought about weddings until I got engaged. Now, I can't stop thinking about them! Planning the wedding has really opened the floodgates to my DIY side. If there's anything I can do to avoid hiring someone else, I will do it! Mr. Coconut is my financial advisor, he tries to keep me budget-conscious! We've tried to make wedding planning a team effort!
Continuing with our wedding planning excursion, we stopped at our baker and picked up our cake tasting. We get the option of picking a different flavor for each tier, but I had no idea the cakes would be this huge! Since we were 35 minutes away from home, and just couldn’t wait any longer, we did a drive-by cake tasting just outside our wedding venue!

We didn’t have a knife, so we just forked it. Ya know.
