Mr. Lollipop and I have an agreement about food: all of our eating expenses are covered by our joint account. We split the bill for groceries, restaurants, and whatever else right down the middle. However, there are two exceptions to this rule. First, he pays for his own beer, and second, I pay for my own candy.
This arrangement keeps my fiance from going bug-eyed when I bring home an entire bucket of bubble gum, or purchase and then eat an entire box of dark chocolate turtles over the course of a week. I love candy. Love it. Love it. Health-wise, I am lucky that the fillings I got in Japan (my first and only!) were not of the highest quality. The ringing in my teeth from sugary things keeps me from going overboard. I dropped soda from my diet, but I can’t help the occasional sweet, sweet (*drool*) candy indulgence.
It should come as no surprise that I needed a candy buffet at our reception. We will have six kinds of candy, and they will be combined with our cookie table to form a heavenly display of things that will cause my early death.
I bought all of our candy in bulk from Metrocandy. We be serving caramels, spearmint leaves, gummy sour apples, chocolate rocks (they look like real pebbles!), jelly beans, and rock candy. I even bought extra rock candy to be used as stirrers at the coffee table, and flavored rock candy for swizzle sticks in mixed drinks.
I set out a mock-up last weekend. In addition to these six jars, we will have several jars for cookies.

As you may recall I was having a hard time deciding how to display the lollipops and rock candy sticks in our candy buffet. While there were some fantastic suggestions of where to buy test tube type displays in the comments of my previous post, I just could not justify spending another $50 or so (plus shipping to Canada) on racks that I would likely never use again, and so another DIY project was born!
In Regina we have a lovely store called Gale’s Florist and they sell everything crafty at wholesale prices if you have an account. Luckily for me, Papa Pumpkin’s work has an account and so Momma Pumpkin and I bought almost everything that we used to decorate the wedding from Gale’s including almost all of the jars we used to display the candy buffet. We found the perfect square vases to display the rock candy sticks in, and so I left the sticks in the wrapper and stood them up in the vases and it looked great! Unfortunately I don’t have a great picture of that for you but I am hoping that when I get my professional pics back there will be a close up of the candy display.

Because I absolutely love sugar and pretty much anything sweet, e.g. I put sugar crystals all over my spaghetti, it was a no-brainer that we were going to have a candy buffet. (Disclaimer: My actions in regards to my spaghetti are not necessarily endorsed by my family and friends).
It took me awhile to to figure out what containers to provide for our candy buffet because there were so many choices. I narrowed it down to glassine containers vs. white take out boxes. In the end the cute take out boxes won. I placed pink stickers on each box with our names and wedding date on them. I absolutely love how they turned out. I also cleaned out the local dollar store and bought all their stainless steel scoops. What a deal!

I’m packing up the candy buffet today! There are about 12 containers to pack; luckily we have a lot of boxes from Crate & Barrel and they have really nice packing supplies for glass containers. My caterer said he will provide about a 48-inch table for our buffet. This table in the photo is about the same size, and I think the space a bit tight for all of them. I’ll send him this photo and see if he can provide a larger table. As recommended by all the readers, I took away most of the ribbons and the containers do look nice without extra embellishments. I might take away all the ribbons entirely and just add a few lavender paper flowers in between the containers:

I bought all of our candy buffet containers many months ago, and since then they have sitting in my closet collecting dust. Yesterday I decided to bring them out and start to work on the candy buffet project. I brought out all the containers and my fiance and I were surprised how many containers we had - I purchased 12 containers?! They were all so pretty and it was kind of addicting to buy because they were so affordable and I found so many unique designs. I think out of all the containers these two are my favorites, both were only $7.99 and I couldn’t just buy one of them! I love how the bases of these jars look - they are so tall and elegant, and allows you to put something cute inside like a small flower.
I love candy buffets! Candy comes in such fun and varied colours, that it’s an easy way to add style and pizzazz to your reception. And it’s delicious! This was one of the very few things that we (Mr. P, the Moms and I) all agreed on, and it was one of the very first decisions we made. I have since purchased some very cute candy online (all light pink, hot pink and brown of course!) and now I am starting to think about how we will display it all. Some things are obvious, or at least easier than others. But I am having trouble with the rock candy sticks and lollipops. I’ve purchased these lollipops from Favors and Flowers:

Large glass jars are on sale at Pottery Barn for $39.99, regularly $129.00. Scoop them up for your candy buffets while they last!

So you’ve finally picked your wedding colors. You ripped out the perfect shade of pink from the latest issue of Martha. You found a swatch of aqua from a vintage dress. Or maybe you headed over to the paint section at Home Depot. Whatever your method, you can now match that perfect shade down to the smallest wedding detail. At Translucent Chocolates, chocolate and candy-coated almonds, toffee, sunflower seeds and “designer” M&M-type candies are available in any combination of vivid colors. They make the cutest wedding favors in their simple clear boxes or as a part of a larger candy buffet.
I love lollipops something fierce. Hands down, they are my favorite candy. I don’t know why, as it seems that I can never just suck on them like I’m supposed to. I’m a biter. These pretty candys would be gone in one bite with me.
Favorsandflowers.com has a large selection of these babies in a wide variety of colors that would be cute as individual wedding favors or as a part of a larger candy buffet. I’m also a big fan of using them as escort cards.
I think we might add yet another item to our ever growing *small* candy buffet.
It’s called Pashmak or Persian Fairy Floss. It’s a cotton candy or sorts, made from sesame oil and sugar. It’s delicious to say the least. It comes in a variety of flavors such as:
Mr. Strawberry and I are doing a mini candy buffet on our guest book table, all because I couldn’t decide what to do as favors. I made a compromise with myself to do a small candy buffet of about three different tasty candy treats and mini cupcakes for guests to take home. I’ve been looking for cool decanters for the candy and found them at Pottery Barn of all places!

Medium $59.00
Large $69.00
I have too many ideas. If I’m not careful, my wedding is going to look a pink and brown explosion. Much too overwhelming. However, I’m having a hard time deciding which ideas to throw out–especially when it comes to favors. I am no longer doing chocolate chip cookies and milk.
Too hard.
I had to decide between a candy buffet and mini cupcakes so I’ve made a compromise with myself - I’ll do the mini cupcakes as favors and then do a small display of pink and brown candy on the guest book table. Now the hunt is on for pink and brown candy! Here are the choices that I have to narrow down:
Pink Jelly Beans?

We just decided to add these:

(White chocolate macadamia nut cookies) to our dessert buffet.
They’ve been my favorites since just about forever, and I can’t believe I hadn’t thought to add them before now.
Also, for Mr. Blueberry, we’ll have a large bowl of Sour Patch Kids:

When the cat’s away the mice will play. Or, in my case, when Mr. Lily is out of town I bake (and paint the town red with the girls, of course!).
I am having a candy buffet at the wedding and would like to make one or two things for it because I love baking. This plan may blow up in smoke if I get wedding crazy, but it gave me a good excuse to feed my sweet tooth. This weekend I tried making milk chocolate covered pretzels with white chocolate (dyed green) drizzled on top. For a first time effort, it turned out pretty good. They taste awesome and don’t look half bad… now my freezer is full of treats!
