In three words: too much fun! If you know me it isn’t a stretch to know why I had the most enjoyable time picking out the flower girls’ dresses. Frilly? Flowers? Count me in! Our flower girls are totally the perfect age to play dress up, at five and two years old. They are the age when they are super adorable in whatever they wear!
One reason why it was so easy is because I knew their style: “flower princess butterfly,” as the five year old expressed it. As long as it was puffy and some shade of pink, I knew they’d love it. Read more…

Finding the perfect groomsmen’s outfit was harder than finding bridesmaids’ dresses! Much harder. After visiting Men’s Wearhouse and trying on suits, we realized we didn’t want a tuxedo. It was going to be too stiff, too heavy, and too much for a casual, outdoor wedding. The problem with this was finding a suit that would work.
Rental stores are so good because they have different styles in stock, and purchasing is less time sensitive––the three month turnover in mall stores becomes even more of a rush when trying for a hard-to-find size––and really, it requires minimal effort from the dudes. There is a clerk that knows what they need once they drop the wedding party’s name, so they aren’t left to hunt for the right things all by themselves. Typically getting the guys to the rental store and on time is something that us brides go crazy trying to coordinate, and rightfully so!!
Our pick for the groomsmen
We tried to find a seersucker suit or a more casual tan suit at a rental store to no avail. Read more…

My three junior bridesmaids are gorgeous! They have this heavy and thick wavy hair. We are always playing and experimenting with it. One of my favorite hairdos on them is a summer chic, half-up Bohemian braid. Originally I was looking at braid hairdos for me, but I just loved it for the junior BMs, who are 10, 13, 15. It is cute without being too cutesy, and it is totally up my alley; our wedding was more of a natural and relaxed one. Basically, this hairdo reminds me of home in California and how perfect is was for our outdoor courtyard wedding there!
I was trying to look up some pictures online because as a penny pincher we would be doing all the kids’ hair ourselves. While on my search I found something better: Read more…

Just a week before our wedding I brought in a few of my inspiration photos to my hair trial. I was choosing between three hairdos so I wanted to try them all. See how they turned out below!
1. The Half Up
It would be a good compromise between my longing for long wavy locks and a crisp updo. Perhaps I could look Grecian and whimsical like the character from Mamma Mia? Or perfectly in place like on Martha Stewart Weddings?

Since I was getting married outside, one of my fears was the wind. “Would it be gusty that day and would all of our guests be distracted by me fumbling with my hair?” my inner bride would ask. The updo would be perfect! It could keep my hair in place and all I would have to focus on would be us getting married!!
When I saw the side chignon it seemed to have the right mix of everything I wanted: something young and fresh, relaxed enough for an outdoor venue, classic enough for the occasion. After taking a look at some of the other updos, there were quite a few that captured the essence of what I wanted. Whether the hair is twisted, made into a bun, curled, pulled straight, side-swept, or what have you, there are so many beautiful ones to choose from.
So I’ve pasted a few of the updos that I love below for you. Many of them helped me decide what to ask for at my wedding hair trial at Roger Joseph’s Salon in New Jersey. In my next post I’ll tell you what I chose and show you pictures of the day.

The long, loose curl that is effortlessly cascading down a bride…I just adore it! It’s romantic and beautiful with just that perfect touch of natural. I am sifting through some of the pictures that I took to my wedding day hair trial. I, like so many brides, had to decide between three basic hairstyles for the big day: up, down or half-up. Which version for the wedding? Would there be time for two? I was instantly drawn to having my hair down. This is what I usually wear most days, so it feels like me. Very feminine, a little casual, and made perfect with a white dress (and perhaps a flower, too)! Here are a few inspiration pictures for long, Bohemian waves.

My experience looking for wedding bands was very different than Mr. Pashmina’s. I knew what I wanted. In one word: Sparkles! My question was how to get it at a good price and with a comfortable fit. I never knew how girly and glamorous I could feel wearing a ring until Mr. Pashmina got me my engagement ring. Now I wanted more! Read more…

“something hard so it doesn’t get lots of scratches”
“nothing frilly or with too much decoration”
“nothing with diamonds”
“something really light so I won’t feel it on”
These were the requirements of Mr. Pashmina as we went on our search to find the perfect men’s ring. Just to give you a little insight into the type of guy my husband is: he has “going out” sweats, “at home” sweats, and “exercise” sweats. Did you think there was just one kind? Oh, no! Read more…

As a East Coast transplant I am always torn between spending holidays here with my hubby or seeing my family on the West Coast. Of course I want to spend these special occasions with my best friend and husband…but I get one or two days off on top of my hard-to-come-by vacation days this time of year. It is the most perfect time to go!
So every year for the six years I have been with Mr. Pashmina I have gone back home to be with my family for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I’ve always tried to feel out Mr. P to see if he would mind my departure or if he was getting tiresome of me always going away. Read more…

A few weeks before the wedding, my mother-in-law’s two best friends gave us a co-ed bridal shower. With all the planning going back and forth, it just so happened that it was going to be the day after my groom’s overnight bachelor party in Atlantic City. I knew that this wasn’t going to be the best idea but I thwarted the nag in me and said, “try not to make it turn out like the movie The Hangover!”
At about 4:30 PM, Mr. Pashmina called me from the road to tell me that he may have to meet me there—they were running late—but he was going to try to come home to clean himself up from the party…none of them were able to take a shower before check-out! Read more…

My work went above and beyond for my bridal shower. I had no clue anything was in the works, and then the mysterious Microsoft Outlook calendar appointment appeared titled “Your Bridal Shower.” I went into the office of my co-workers and was dumbfounded—I never imagined that my work was going to throw me a bridal shower. If anything, I thought that I would be asking them to attend mine!
The best part was that it was scheduled for the very next week!

I had a terrible, crazy time addressing our invitations. I tried to address all of them in one sitting, handwritten calligraphy and all. Please DO NOT do what I did. There was really no reason for the crunch. I ordered the envelopes separately, so even though I was waiting on our invitations, I had the envelopes to address for at least a two days ahead of time. But I didn’t think. Learn from me: When you rush, mistakes happen. But this is what happened…
I went over the invite list again and again in my head, on paper, and with Mr. P. All of the people were included. I went over the invites with Mr. Pash’s parents and my own parents to make sure everyone was on the list. I tried my best to ensure that everyone’s names were spelled correctly, and I stalked people on Facebook to make sure. I was pretty sure everyone was on our list and I even had the significant others’ names down.
But we left someone’s name off the list. No one caught it! No one…although, as the bride, I do take responsibility for it. Read more…

A few months before we ordered our invitations we finalized our invite list. Initially you might think this would be a quick task since we were hoping to only have 75 people. But think again! It wasn’t at all.
We really had to pare down and limit the invites. This was fine with me and my groom since we really wanted a small, intimate wedding but the parents were a little tricky. Each of the parents had different ideas about who had to be invited. My parents are divorced and have small families on each side, while Mr. P’s parents are married and come from large families. Our unequal family size complicated things because it had to be “fair” in terms of number of invites, but it also had to be fair in the degree of the relationship. My parents couldn’t be inviting their co-workers while Mr. P’s family wasn’t able to invite his aunts! Read more…
